California

My first time in the United States of America is in the state of California, the minute I stepped out of the LAX airport my brother immediately whisked me to Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles even with my head spinning due to jetlag ! that's how excited we were

Back to the Future the Ride looks and feels like one of the arcade vending machines found at the MOA

King Kong already looks outdate

Jaws' Amityville Island looks like those in the movie

Jurassic Park Ride is thrilling and exciting

Shrek 4D looks like a full blown Imax

in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater, a photo-op with a 6 footer Storm Trooper, this guy asked for a $ 1 dollar tip after this photo shot :D

we also boarded a tour bus to visit the home of the stars...went to beverly hills and I was thrilled to see locations I see in popular movies such as 'Pretty Woman' starring Julia Roberts.

Our tour guide asked some movie and tv trivia which i managed to answer correctly being the movie/tv fanatic that i am, i was even surprised other american tourists didn't even know the answer, some were surprised i knew the answers when i told them i am from the philippines :D

Sorry guys but in my personal opinion I think California is soooooooo over rated! It's a nice place but it's not really THAT nice especially in the point of view of people siguro na nakatira na talaga overseas!

hmmm...some places in california talaga aren't at all that nice, i'll give you that. i live here but when i first came din, i was like, uh, that's it? however, up in the north, there are some really nice areas there. san francisco for one is just lovely. santa barbara too.

but i suppose if you compare it to other states, like the ones in the east, yeah di talaga super ganda. part of the reason why those areas are very pretty is because they actually do have 4 seasons there. sa california, socal in particular, it doesn't really and even fall- di masyadong colorful. hindi masyadong breathtaking kasi. saka ang california kasi is so big and when you travel by car or bus, madalas you're surrounded by deserts, mountains. para kang in the middle of nowhere. :P

Southern California is a great place to go actually. It only depends on how much time you have. For instance, if you want to have a great time in SoCal (Southern California), there are a plethora of things to do here depending on your age.

If you're single, Hollywood/Pasadena/Santa Monica have a lot of clubs and bars to frequent to meet beautiful people. If you have a family, Universal Studios, Disneyland, and Magic Mountain are all within 30 minutes from Downtown (without traffic of course). Disneyland alone would force you to spend 2 days as they have two parks there. Both Disneyland and Universal Studios have their respective entertainment venues outside the parks as well.

Los Angeles is a 2 hour drive from Santa Barbara in the north or San Diego to the south. If you get tired of Los Angeles, you can go to either of these cities. Las Vegas is also only 4 hours away. That's a whole 3 page review in itself so if you have any questions about those places, feel free to ask me.

One of my favorite spots in California is Yosemite National Park, east of San Francisco. I also like Tioga Pass which is two hours further from Yosemite. Best to go In April or after the snow in that part of the Sierra Nevada range has stopped. Heavy snow can close the road leading to Tioga Pass which is about 14,000 feet above sea level.

I don't recommend Tioga Pass for people with difficulty in breathing and those with heart ailments. The high altitude can cause dizziness and shortness of breath. For those who like snow, this is the place to go

I enjoy Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Range. I also like the Eureka area which is where the giant redwood trees are.

If you plan to stay in Lake Tahoe for a couple of days, make sure you stay on the Nevada border of the lake. Nevada has high rise modern hotels like Harrahs, Harveys, etc. There are casinos in these hotels (Nevada has legalized gambling) On the California side of the lake, the motels aren't as grand as the 5 star hotels in the Nevada side.

I also suggest you take the 1 hour trip to Reno, Nevada, sometimes called the Biggest Little Town in America. Since it's in Nevada, there are gambling casinos in the large hotels there.

Sausalito, north of San Francisco, is a quaint seaside town with a Mediterranean feel, look and ambiance. Great place for seafood.

Monterey, Carmel by the Sea, and 17 Mile Drive are also some of the places I like going to when I'm in California.

And of course who could miss the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

If you're a sports fan, Cali's an amazing place to be in. Home to good rec basketball leagues, minor league baseball, pro basketball in the Clippers, Lakers, Warriors and the Kings (for now). Athletics, Giants, Dodgers and Angels baseball too. If you're into football, you can check out the Chargers, Niners, Raiders too. If hockey's your kind of thing, the Kings and Sharks are there. No need to go to malls if you wanna go budget shopping. Swap meets are a dime a dozen if you're around the LA area but if you wanna go to a mall, I'd suggest going to one of America's biggest single floor malls, Ontario Mills in LA. Cali's also the home of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico itself. It's actually an amazing melting pot of cultures, good Chinese, Vietnamese food too. You gotta try the food trucks and of course, you can't pass up In-N-Out Burgers. Of course, there's Disneyland but if you're in the NorCal area, Great America's also a good theme park to check out.

Then there's Universal Studios, Hollywood and Vine, La Brea Tar Pits, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Oakland Bay Bridge, Alcatraz, Monterey, San Diego Zoo, South Lake Tahoe, Muir Woods, Avenue of Giants, The Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Yosemite National Park, Sausalito, and so many other attractions.
