Hate about my job:

1. You work around 50,000,000 liters of jet fuel, gasoline, and other bad stuff. Thats like equivalent to the contents of all the gas stations in Luzon. One spark, and they wont find even your teeth when it is all over. But you'll be in the world news headlines, hahaha!

2. You make mistakes, people can and do die. Every year someone gets hurt in this industry. I have scars to show for it myself. You had better not be afraid of fire.

3. When there is trouble and production slows down, they will find you and call you in to fix it. they care nothing of what time it is or how much sleep you have had, or what you are doing at the moment, you gotta go there and lead a crew of folks to fix it. Or watch the country's gas stations run dry...

4. The technology changes very quickly, so you have to learn, learn, learn some more.

5. The technical gibberish is impossible. There are so many codes and abbreviations that if you stay long enough, the central control room sounds like a set out of Tom Clancy or Star Wars. ("roger that base, the TI shows 345 deg, is the delta P increasing?" "Negative, bravo, the CDU at 7000 t/d and holding, the LRCC feed is dead steady, no upsets at GTA, copy?" "roger, berthing prospects as planned at J1, over and out"...blah blah blah)

6. No overtime pay. Never was for managers.

7. the staff is nearly 95 percent men. and you only go home like every other weekend. tigang!

Like

1. If you are good, you be one of the bosses. No matter how young.

2. You get to run hard assets worth hundreds of millions of USD (tens of billions of pesos), of someone else's money!

3. You are helping the country making basic stuff it needs (fuel) for progress.

4. if you love engineering, this is it.

5. the pay is not so bad

6. perks not so bad, free housing, education plans etc

7. You get to travel to Europe and Asia, since there are so few of you in the industry so you have to go wherever they send you.

8. The AA, contracted staff, and secretaries can be sexy, hehehe

9. if you live long enough, they give you decent retirement pay.

10 You work with professionals, no BS around here, a spades a spade.

Things I love about my job:

1. Flexi-time. I can work whenever I want and wherever I want.

2. Interaction with different people. Clients come from all over. I

like dealing with different kinds of people.

3. Lots of free stuff! Given you're good in b.s. :D

4. I get to wine and dine with my clients.

5. I get to do what I love most. Hence, making me feel like I'm just

having fun and not really working.

6. I get to see what I created and take credit for it too! :D

7. The thought of expanding overseas just thrills me to death I can

almost taste it.

8. Having my own office.

9. Having the power to choose people who'll work for/with me.

10. Working with people I've known for long and who I can trust with

my life.

11. My favorite perk: I CAN PLAY WHATEVER MUSIC I WANT

WITHOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING!

Things I hate about my job:

1. The long hours I have to put in to finish a design.

2. Sleeping two hours a day.

3. New York clients calling during very precious two-hour sleep

period.

4. Stupid, indecisive clients.

5. Know-it all clients.

6. Clients asking for payment terms upon approval of project.

7. Post-dated checks!!!! Grrr!!! Money almost at your hands but not

quite!

8. Competitive rates.

Love,

1. I wear fit jeans, t-shirts, and heavy leather boots to work, as well as custom fitted fire resistant cotton jackets.

2. Wearing shades is allowed.

3. I also have a fancy nick when on radio

4. Machines dont have emotions. You can kick machines here if you get pissed off.

5. We can predict precisely what will happen given enough data. Right down to the last millimeter. Sometimes, just via mental computation. Still amazes me all these years that the hypothetical stuff they taught in textbooks is all true and will work no matter what, just trust your math.

Hate

1. If you do a good job, no one hears about it. We are invisible, like the engine crew in a ship. Maybe you will get a nice wooden plaque to hang in your office someday, if many years pass by and you don't mess up.

2. The moment you mess up one small bit, its on the headlines (fire! Explosion! Oil Spill! Casualties!). I think this goes for all engineers, you only hear about us when there's trouble.

3. The government thinks you are making heaps and does everything possible to make you think you work for a rotten and abusive company that no one needs.

its a dirty job, but some poor folk have to do it...
