Jazz Sink Clippers Anew For Rare Road Win

Once they started taking care of the ball Monday afternoon, the Jazz had little trouble taking care of the Los Angeles Clippers 109-93 and starting the second half of the season with the kind of road victory for which they've ached.

It also didn't hurt that Matt Harpring was available to play a season-high 27 minutes with Andrei Kirilenko lost to foul trouble and finishing scoreless in only 9:32 of action at Staples Center.

The Jazz righted themselves after committing 12 turnovers in the first 17:11 (19 for the game) and again had seven players score in double figures as they cruised past the Clippers for the second time in four days.

Deron Williams led the starters with 18 points and 13 assists and the Jazz got 51 points from their bench. Harpring finished with a season-high 17 points while Paul Millsap added 17 and Kyle Korver had 13, including two fourth-quarter three-pointers.

Jazz nick Knicks ; win 6th in a row !

Utah's Deron Williams has had a double-double in five straight games and his team has won a season-high six in a row.

It's pretty simple to see the correlation.

Williams had 22 points and 12 assists to lead the Jazz to a 100-89 victory over the short-handed New York Knicks on Wednesday night. The Jazz led by as much as 17, let the Knicks close within three, then finished them off in the final few minutes.

Williams had six points and five assists in the fourth quarter.

"We had chances to blow the game open but we didn't," Williams said. "We stopped defending and let them get back in the game. It wasn't pretty."

Williams has had at least 12 assists in his last five games and may have made a late campaign to be selected to the Western Conference All-Star team.

"He's real cool on the court. You know, he runs the show well," New York's Jamal Crawford said. "He can score, he can shoot, pass, defend. I like his game a lot."

After a dismal December, the Jazz went 11-2 in January and lead the Northwest Division. Utah has won 10 straight at home for the first time since 1999 and hasn't trailed in its last two games.

Jazz is on the roll, too bad my team is still slumping in the east

Jazz win 7th Straight in Ugly Win over Washington !

D-will (5-14 fga ) and Boozer ( 1-9 ) suffered a horrid shooting night as the Jazz beat the Wiz 96-87. Cold as the Jazz stars were, Washington was frigid from the field ( 28-74 ; 38% ).

Mehmet Okur stepped up with 27 points and 11 rebounds , Brewer and Kirilenko combined for 28 points and the Utah bench contributed 26 points many of them off assists made by Deron( 12 ) and Boozer (5).

With gasol sent to LA, the jazz should have an easier time dealing with Memphis tom. The real games to watch out for are against the Chris Paul led Hornets on tuesday and division rival denver on thursday.

gooooooooo jazz !

Jazz Frag Hornets 110-88

story from espn.com

The meeting between division leaders was a rout, almost from the start.

Deron Williams had 29 points and 11 assists, and the Utah Jazz set a team record for 3-pointers in a 110-88 victory Monday night over the New Orleans Hornets that extended their winning streak to nine games.

Carlos Boozer finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds and Mehmet Okur scored 14 for Utah, which won its 11th straight home game. Williams had his eighth consecutive double-double.

Williams badly outplayed Hornets guard Chris Paul, selected for the All-Star game last week while Williams was not. Williams got Paul into foul trouble and Paul finished with just six points and six assists.

Jannero Pargo led the Hornets with 24 points.

Peja Stojakovic and David West scored 12 each and Tyson Chandler had 11 rebounds for New Orleans, which lost its third in a row.

The Jazz passed on Paul for Williams with the No. 3 pick in the 2005 draft. Paul went to the Hornets with the next pick and the two point guards have been compared ever since. Williams definitely had the better game Monday. He scored 12 in the third quarter as the Jazz stretched an 11-point lead to as much as 22.

Williams was cheered with the chant "All-Star" from Jazz fans, especially during the third quarter with some impressive plays. On one, he dribbled around Paul at the top of the key, then leaped around the 7-foot-1 Chandler for a dunk to put Utah up 59-41 with 9:34 left in the period.

Williams added a 3-pointer about a minute later to push Utah's lead to 64-44 and got Paul to commit his fifth foul with 6:43 left in the period.

Korver, who scored 20 points, opened the quarter with four straight 3-pointers during a 15-4 run. He tied the franchise record at 13 with a 3 with 4:36 left in the fourth, then Okur broke it with another with 2:25 remaining. The Jazz starters went to the bench shortly after that and received a standing ovation.

Notes : Utah remained the NBA's hottest team as they won a ninth game in a row. Utah sank a team record on three pointers as the Jazz went 14-for-22 from 3-point range, getting six from Kyle Korver and three from Williams.

here's an interesting quote from lebron james on the trash talking that goes on during nba games :

Since coming into the NBA, James has engaged in some heated trash talk with the Celtics, whom he says are among the league's chattiest squads. "They're up there," he said. "Them and the Pistons. They talk but they back it up. Sometimes it can get annoying, but they can back it up." So who's the quietest team? "Utah," he said. "They don't say nothing, they just kick your butt."

yup ... sounds like jerry's squad to me. :hypocritesmiley:

SI POLL: According to a Sports Illustrated survey of 242 NBA players appearing in this week's issue, 20 percent — more than any other building in the league — believe EnergySolutions Arena is "the most intimidating arena to play in as a visitor." :thumbsupsmiley:

Dati pa naman di ba? Panahon pa ng Delta Center when they have the Ostertag-Malone-Russell-Horny-Stock when they became Western champs twice in a row. I remember that their only rival to that distinction were the fans of the Sacramento Kings in Arco Arena when they have the Divac-CWebb-Stoja-Christie-JWill starting five!

brings back memories podnuh! unfortunately , the rivalry was only good for about two years as the jazz descended into mediocrity and the kings ascended to supremacy in the west.

back to normal programming ... the jazz remain the HOTTEST team in the league ( the Geiger counter must be going crazy eh howard ? ) as utah won their 10th game in a row over division rivals denver !

this from espn .com :

Kyle Korver's 27 points, including four free throws in the final 19 seconds of overtime, powered the Utah Jazz to a 118-115 thriller over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

Korver's two free throws with 19.3 seconds remaining gave the Jazz a 116-115 lead, and after a timeout, Allen Iverson, who scored 34 points, was short on a jumper from the left corner with 5 seconds left.

Korver got the rebound, drew the foul and sank two more free throws.

The Nuggets had one last shot at sending the game into double-overtime, but Anthony Carter, 0-for-4 in the extra period, was short on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Utah improved to 16-2 since acquiring Korver from the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 29, surging past Denver and Portland and into the lead in the Northwest Division.
