The 80s were indeed very memorable. 1982 was my best year financially as an independent IT consultant. Then it crashed totally in 1983 after Ninoy's killing ... including the economy. The early 80s also showed some of the best chinese martial arts movies (mostly HK made) including Sentimental Swordsman, Five Venoms, etc (many starring Ti Lung, Fu Sheng) and were readily available in the 3 theaters in Chinatown.

More early 80s: Food was P4-5 for any noodle soup, P2 for fried rice, along Ongpin St., Chinatown, Manila. The biggest bill was a P100 bill. DISCOVERY Nightclub in Sta. Mesa was just hitting its heyday ... table charge is P25/hr for GRO and P11/drink for models/solos - who butterfly (table hop). They can down 5-6 drinks in an hour. If you pay a pretty club girl P500 for going to bed w/ you, it is BIG Bucks.

The infamous CLUB INFERNO in Ermita/Malate area has the equivalent talent of today's HB/Classmate/ AirForce1/ Pegasus ... I took out a girl from this place that looks as good as (if not better than) Maricar De Mesa. The price? A shocking P1,000 then (equivalent to P15-20,000 today). I also went from rich to poor in a couple of months after Ninoy's demise... even went through a period of no money for food (and too proud/stupid to ask my parents for money) :thumbsdownsmiley:

i remember the days... i'm from that era... and i'm SO proud to be.

aside from all those games/toys/movies/tv shows, etc. i want to add some brand of shoes which were really a hit those times: vans, bla-bla, haruta, collie, dragonfly, tretorn, k-swiss, docksides, and of course, the immortal "sperry". you're quite hip weraing puritan or better yet, fruit of the loom undershirts. you swap swatches every week... and yes, you had at least one randy santiago 5-peso bill.

in my room, there were posters and vinyls of almost all the new wave bands... you name it - new order, midnight oil, depeche mode, u2, duran-duran, the cure, the care, x'mal deutschland, waterboys, tears for fears, echo & the bunnymen, flesh for lulu, siuoxie & the banshees, soft cell, gene loves jezebel, joy division, the smiths, and many more.

it was fun remembering those days. it's the best era there was... :)
