rsc1221
Excerpts from Batista's news conference in the PhilippinesSubmitted by Calvin Martin on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 11:00 AM EST LOP reader Jason Inocencio reporting: Batista was in the Philippines for two days to promote the SmackdownSurvivor Series Tour that will be held on October 21 and 22 at the AranetaColiseum. I was one of the few who were able to sneak in to the "Meet andGreet" session that the WWE provided for Batista to interact with fans andsponsors. When I got to the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City, it was unusuallypacked for a Saturday. Fans were everywhere, all aching for a chance to see"The Animal". It was so packed that the "Meet and Greet" (which wasoriginally supposed to be at an open space in the center of the mall called"The Oasis") had to be moved to one of the cinemas on the top floor. I asked Batista how badly he missed Eddie Guerrero, and he responded that hemisses Eddie badly. "Everytime I go out in the ring, I try to dedicate thatto Eddie." He added that he tries to give as much into his matches as Eddiedid. Dave proudly says that he is half Filipino, but since the averageheight here is between 5-5 to 5-8, we're a country of short people. So whenasked "How did you get so big?", Batista,.with a smile, said, "Well, I'vebeen lfiting weights for twenty years." Somebody asked him to show us histattoo with the Philippine flag, and he showed off his left bicep where, indeed, the familiar Philippine flag was evident. Another question I threw his way was who did he learn more from: Triple H orRic Flair? "As far as overall ringwork, definitely Triple H," was Batista'sresponse. However, he said Ric Flair taught him so much about living lifeoutside the ring. Dave said that The Nature Boy lives life to the fullestand truly enjoys performing. Batista revealed that he was begging to be partof the new incarnation of D-Generation X, "so I could sneak back on RAW. AndI would've loved to do some of those D-X crotch chops." But he was told thathe wasn't gonna be allowed to join. Somebody mentioned that in Royal Rumble 2005, we got a preview of Batista vsCena, and would Dave be willing to wrestle John Cena in the future. Davesaid that hen looks forward to that happening. He'd like it more though ifboth he and Cena had titles going into the match, "because I want to beundisputed champion." Asked what his most memorable match was, Dave quicklysaid that WrestleMania 22's main event, winning the World HeavyweightChampionship from Triple H was his favorite match. He explained that he long dreamed of being a professional bodybuilder andwas only sidetracked into wrestling, but he now loves the business. Batistawas asked if he was married and he said, "No, I'm single." That's kind ofsurprising to me because I thought he was still married to his wife Angie, and he was with her when she battled cancer. Someone asked if Batista thinksthat the Philippines can be a "wrestling hub" in the future, to which Davesaid, "Absolutely." "I've been to Japan lots of times and their crowds arenothing compared to the reaction I've gotten here (in the Philippines). Another person noticed that Dave has recently been using Goldberg's oldmoves like the spear and the jackhammer, so he wondered if that was aconscious decision on Dave's part to add that to his repertoire. Dave saidhe had suggested to Bobby Lashley to bring use the spear more often. He alsosaid that he's been using the spear since before he was in WWE (back inOVW). As for the jackhammer, he said it was a good looking move, nobody hadbeen using it, so he gave it a try. The last question I asked him was "Whatcan you say about Kurt Angle's release?" "Surprised," was the first thingout of Dave's mouth. He said that Kurt was a guy that loved the business, but his body really just needed a break. Kurt kept pushing himself, but hisbody needs some time to rest. Since Kurt will be out indefinitely, Batistasaid "I hope I don't drop the ball while he's away." Since I experienced something similar when the RAW Superstars were here inFebruary, I think I can give a valid comparison when judging Batista withJohn Cena. Big Dave is definitely wider, though Cena seemed a tad taller. Heanswered every question thrown his way, and was very gracious in signingautographs for everyone, even giving personal dedications to each person. Healso signed my old school WWE Championship Belt (Hogan's, Bret's, Shawn'sbelt) to add to the signatures from Cena, Carlito, Viscera, Val Venis,Torrie, and Trish. Since Batista had to rush to catch a 7pm flight leavingManila, individual pictures with him had to be stopped in favor of groupshots. Still, Dave was very game and didn't tire of shaking hands and posingfor pics. Quote Link to comment

bret_hart
WWE News: Randy Orton apparently fails drug testSubmitted by Brian Cantor on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 3:03 PM EST The Wrestling-Observer Newsletter notes that Randy Orton recently failed a WWE-issued drug test. According to the newsletter, Orton is one of WWE's "non-suspensions." The "non-suspension" reference is to WWE's amendment to the wellness policy, which removes the stipulation that a wrestler who fails a drug test will be pulled from the road for thirty days. The policy, changed in response to the SmackDown! roster scare from two months ago, now calls for wrestlers to be docked pay and bonuses for thirty days after the failed test. They will continue working television and pay per view events but will only receive travel expenses. Such wrestlers will almost always be removed from house show lineups. Critics have attacked WWE's new policy, arguing that it favors business over health—the very opposite of WWE's supposed intentions in instituting the wellness policy. WWE Quote Link to comment
bret_hart
WWE News: Backstage talk of a DX vs. nWo feudSubmitted by Brian Cantor on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 2:34 AM EST Although the DX vs. nWo rumors first started when a fan circulated a photoshopped Survivor Series poster around the Internet, PWTorch.com reports that there is legitimate talk of running the angle. WWE sources deny that there are any plans to bring Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in for such a feud, but they are acknowledging that the idea has been informally proposed in some circles. At this point, the angle remains a longshot, but the Internet discussion of the feud (and the availability of Nash and Hall) could make it a reality. DX VS. NWO Quote Link to comment
