Survivor Series (November 26, 2006)

(CMV1 note- conspicuous by their absence was Joey Styles and Tazz, as it was JBL/Cole, JR/King, and Hugo/Carlos only at ringside)

Match 1: The Spirit Squad (w/ Mitch) vs. Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Sgt. Slaughter, and Ron Simmons (w/ Arn Anderson)

-Simmons started off against Mikey. Mikey tried taunting and pushing Farooq to start the match, but Simmons didn’t buy into the trash talking game. Nonetheless, Mikey grabbed a head lock. Simmons picked him up and tossed him across the ring. Mikey poked him in the eye in retaliation and tried to follow with a running strike, but Simmons powerslammed him. The Squad tried to come in and help out, but Simmons took them out, too. Farooq went to the outside to further fend them off, but got goaded into being counted out. Simmons was eliminated at 2:16. Mitch, who got involved on the outside as a non-member of the match, was tossed by the referee, but not before Simmons gave him a spinebuster. Simmons dragged him to the back. Double A got tossed from ringside, as well, and was not happy about it. Meanwhile, Slaughter came in to face Nicky. Nicky mocked Sarge’s salute, but Slaughter goaded him into a handshake. Sarge took advantage of the rookie’s stupidity and gave him a boot to the gut and three bodyslams. Rhodes tagged in and did a little dance before striking Nicky with the Bionic Elbow. He proceeded to work over Nicky’s arm and tag in Flair. The Nature Boy gave the Squad member a few knife edge chops to the approval of the crowd. The Sarge tagged back in and geared up for the Cobra Clutch. He locked it on and choked him out. Sarge looked to have Nicky beat until Johnny came in and hit him in the back of the head with a spinning front kick. Sarge was eliminated at 6:50. Rhodes came back into the match and hit a bionic elbow drop on Nicky. Nicky was eliminated at 7:15. Mikey came in and took control of the American Dream. Johnny tagged in and tried to isolate Rhodes in the corner, but Dusty fought back. Kenny tagged in and regained control, but Dusty strutted around and no-sold his offense. Rhodes caught him with a bionic elbow and a series of jabs. The Squad then ran into the ring and distracted the ref, allowing Kenny to eliminate Dusty with a roll-up. Dusty was eliminated at 8:39. The Legends team was suddenly down to one man, Ric Flair. Naitch used some dirty tricks to pin Mikey. Mikey was eliminated at 9:33. Flair then rolled up Kenny with a small package for the pin. Kenny was eliminated at 10:11. Johnny attacked quickly, but Flair came back and worked over his leg with a chop block. The finish came when Flair made Johnny tap to the Figure Four. Johnny was eliminated at 10:48. Sole Survivor- Ric Flair. Team Flair defeated Team Spirit Squad at 10:48. After the match, the Squad beat up Flair. (CMV1 rating- * ½)

A video package aired to hype the US title bout between Chris Benoit and Chavo Guerrero…

Match 2: United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero (w/ Vickie Guerrero)

-Benoit scored with a boot to the gut and several forearm shots to gain first strike points. He followed with a running elbow drop and a backbreaker to get a one-count. Benoit then started with the hard knife edge chops before switching to repeated knee lifts. Chavo came back with a European uppercut, but Benoit struck back quick with a chop and a snap suplex. Benoit slammed Chavo for a near fall. Chavo again used the European uppercut to try to gain momentum, but Benoit again came right back with a knife edge chop. Benoit scored with a hard back elbow take down for another near fall. Guerrero finally gained some sustained offense with a series of uppercuts, clubbing forearms, and stomps. Benoit then reversed Chavo’s next offensive attempt into the Crossface. Vickie Guerrero placed Chavo’s boot on the ropes, though, breaking the hold. Benoit stayed with it and connected on a back suplex. Chavo gained momentum when he tossed Benoit shoulder-first into the steel ring post. He then choked Benoit with his boot. Chavo used a back suplex to score a near fall. Guerrero switched gears and locked on a rear chinlock, and then switched submissions into a butterfly gripped hammerlock. Benoit got to his feet and lifted Chavo into a Samoan Drop. The Crippler tried to follow up, but Chavo scored with a missile dropkick. Guerrero worked over Benoit’s shoulder from there. Another European uppercut followed, after which Guerrero taunted the champ and choked him with his boot again. Chavo then swung for a hard punch, but Benoit countered and hit three rolling German suplexes. Benoit signaled for the end and went to the top rope. Vickie rushed over to try and prevent him from doing the Diving headbutt. Benoit leaped off anyway, but Vickie’s distraction allowed Chavo the time necessary to recover and move out of the way. Guerrero regained control and hit a brainbuster to set up the Frog Splash. Chavo then hit the Frog Splash, but Benoit kicked out! Guerrero taunted Benoit, allowing the Crippler the time to go for the Sharpshooter. Chavo countered and pushed Benoit into Vickie Guerrero, who had gotten up on the apron. Chavo tried for a strong offensive grapple, but Benoit countered into the Crippler Crossface. The finish came when Chavo tapped out. Benoit retained the US title at 8:25. (CMV1 rating- ** ¼)

A promo for the Extreme Elimination Chamber aired…

Backstage, Todd Grisham interviewed Lita and Edge. Lita said she was still planning on retiring. Edge talked trash about Donovan McNabb. They kissed and Lita left. Edge hyped his match, as Cryme Tyme came in and stole what looked like an empty box.

Match 3: Women’s Champion Lita vs. Mickie James

-A fan had a “Thank You Lita” sign. Mickie gained early momentum with a spirited barrage of simple offense. Lita came back when she tossed Mickie face-first into the second turnbuckle. She then scored with a monkey flip. Lita sloppily tossed Mickie across the ring a few times, but James came back with a takedown. She tried to follow with a modified head scissors, but Lita blocked it and sent her face-first to the mat. Lita took complete control, as the crowd chanted “Ho!” The crowd got behind Mickie, as Lita tried to gear up for her DDT. Mickie countered, but Lita scored with a side Russian leg sweep, nonetheless. Lita then connected with a unique pinning combo for a near fall. She proceeded to hit a snap suplex. Lita tried to put her away with a sleeper hold, complete with a body scissors, but Mickie made it to the ropes to break the hold. The champ went to the top rope, but missed a flying cross body block. Mickie went to the second rope, but Lita caught up to her and back suplexed back to the mat. The two then traded punches in the middle of the ring. James got the best of the exchange and scored with a clothesline and a back elbow smash. Mickie used a series of kicks, capped off by a back roundhouse kick, to drop Lita back to the mat and score her a near fall. James followed with a Fisherman suplex and called for her DDT. Lita countered and eventually tossed Mickie face-first again into the mat. The champ went to the top and nailed a moonsault, but James kicked out of the pin attempt! Lita then tried for a spike DDT, but Mickie held onto the top rope and sent Lita hard to the mat. They proceeded to trade several roll ups before Mickie hit a tornado DDT. Mickie won the Women’s title at 8:19. After the match, Lita had Lillian ask the crowd to give Lita a round of applause to the greatest Women’s Champion of all-time. Lita grabbed the mic and ranted about the disrespectful fans. Cryme Tyme then came to the ring with that box I mentioned earlier, and it was filled with women’s lingerie. Lita ranted about the lack of respect being shown to her. JTG said the box was full of Lita’s stuff. They started selling her lingerie to the fans at ringside. Lita screamed for them to stop. (CMV1 rating- **)

Earlier today, Michael Cole sat down with Batista. He asked him how the fact that they were in the same arena where Batista had to forfeit the title earlier in the year. Batista was silent. Cole asked him why tonight would be any different than the other attempts Batista has had to regain the title. Batista was still silent. Cole said it was do or die tonight and showed footage of Booker beating him down on SD Friday night. Batista was intensely silent, but finally told Cole he was leaving tonight WHC…

Match 4: Degeneration X, CM Punk, Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, and Matt Hardy vs. World Tag Team Champions Edge and Randy Orton, Mike Knox (w/ Kelly Kelly), Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, and Johnny Nitro (w/ Melina)

-(CMV1 note- DX did their usual schtick prior to the match, as I tried to recover from the horrible post-women’s match segment). The crowd chanted for Punk while Trips tried to get them hyped for the “Are You Ready” line. Thus, HHH let Punk say it. In fact, Trips really put over the other guys on his team. As the match got underway, Mike Knox stepped up for Team Rated-RKO and started off against Triple H, who spotted and flirted with Kelly. Kelly tried to show her stuff for him, but Knox got in the way. HHH taunted Knox, who turned right around and got decked with an HBK superkick. Knox was eliminated at 1:00. The crowd chanted for Punk, as HBK gave Nitro a shoulder tackle. HBK then went outside and hugged Melina. Back in the ring, Michaels worked over Nitro and tagged Jeff Hardy, who promptly connected on a running One and Only. Matt tagged in and hit some tandem offense with his brother. Nitro scampered away and got the tag to Helms. Hardy tried to regain control with a second rope high risk, but Helms took his feet out from under him and tagged Edge. The Rated-R Superstar came in and dominated his former rival before tagging Helms. Helms scored with a vertical suplex and tagged Orton. Hardy ended up with a busted lip, as Nitro tagged in and mounted Matt for several hard right handed shots. Hardy fought back and connected with the Side Effect. Matt inched to his corner and tagged Punk, who came in and went wild with quick offense on Nitro, highlighted by his running knee lift and bulldog combo. Punk proceeded to hit the Uranage and lock him in the Anaconda Vice. Nitro was eliminated at 5:10. Edge quickly came in and took control of Punk, but CM turned the tables. Orton got involved and allowed Edge to regain momentum. Orton tagged in and hit a standing dropkick for a near fall. Helms tagged in, as the crowd again chanted for Punk. The CW champ wrestled Punk to the mat and applied a facelock. Punk tried to battle to his feet, but Helms caught him with a jawbreaker. Orton tagged in at that point, but Punk started making a comeback. The comeback was short-lived, though, as Orton hit the RKO! 1…2…No! HBK broke up the pin. Edge tagged in and geared up for a Spear, but Punk moved out of the way, sending Edge face-first into the second turnbuckle. Punk proceeded to make the hot tag to Triple H, who went nuts with a high knee to Helms and Orton. The Game then hit a facebuster on Helms and tried for the Pedigree, but Edge snuck up behind him with hit the formerly named Edge O’Matic. Soon after that, Jeff Hardy and HBK gave simultaneous planchas to Orton and Edge on the outside. Back in the ring, HHH caught Helms with a spinebuster. Matt then hit the Twist of Fate. Jeff followed with the Swanton Bomb. Helms was eliminated at 9:39. Edge and Orton tried to leave, but Team Extreme went after them and threw them back in the ring. HHH clotheslined Edge over the top rope, leaving Edge alone to get a running knee lift from Punk, Poetry in Motion from the Hardys, and a superkick from HBK. Edge was eliminated at 10:45. Orton realized he was the only man left, so he tried to run away thru the crowd. Team DX went after him, though, and tossed him back in the ring. The finish came when HBK drilled him with Sweet Chin Music and sent him right into a Triple H Pedigree. Orton was eliminated at 11:40. Sole Survivors- DX, Punk, and the Hardy Boyz. Team DX defeated Team Rated-RKO at 11:40. (CMV1 rating- ** ¾)

A video package aired to hype the First Blood match b/t Kennedy and Taker…

Backstage, Kennedy, with Vaseline on his face, was approached by MVP. MVP said he just beat Kane on SD and would eliminate him tonight. He said he had full confidence that Kennedy could bust Taker open, but just in case he didn’t, he’s got his back.

Match 5: First Blood Match: Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy

-(CMV1 note- Ken took the pads off the turnbuckles before doing his usual pre-match introduction). Kennedy ducked out of the ring and Taker chased after him. As the Deadman got back in the ring, Ken stomped away at him and tried to gain early control. Taker was unphased and threw Ken over the top rope to the outside. He slammed Kennedy’s face into the announce table twice and proceeded to wail away at his forehead with hard right hands. Kennedy tried to block the strikes, but got his face tossed back into the announce table multiple times. Taker then threw Kennedy into the ring steps, face-first. He knocked him over the guardrail and gave him multiple headbutts. Taker then tossed him over the guardrail. Kennedy tried to scamper away, but Taker gave him a boot to the face. The Deadman tried to toss Ken into the steps again, but Kennedy countered and threw Taker knee-first into the steel. Kennedy went on to toss Taker face-first into the announce table. He then tried for a splash off the apron, but Taker caught him and rammed him back-first into the steel post. Again, Taker slammed Kennedy’s face into the announce table and gave him shots to the ribs. Back in the ring, Taker continued to strike Kennedy in the ribs and kidney areas. He then placed him on the top turnbuckle, which hurt even worse since there was no padding. Taker brought them back to the mat with a sky high superplex. The Deadman continued the assault until Kennedy caught him with a low blow. Ken punched Taker repeatedly and then tried for a running strike. Taker got his big boot up, though, and regained momentum. He rammed Ken into the exposed turnbuckle multiple times. Ken bought himself some time with another low blow. He rolled out of the ring and discovered that he was bleeding from the mouth. MVP raced down to the ring and gave him a towel. Meanwhile, Taker was reeling in the ring from the low blows. MVP tried to convince Kennedy to leave, but then threw Kennedy back into the ring (presumably for payback). Taker proceeded to continue his assault on Kennedy’s ribs. He mounted him on the second rope, allowing Kennedy to drop him into the exposed steel. MVP then got in the ring and tried to hit Kennedy with a chair. The ref got to him and tried to take the chair. MVP eventually got control and tried to swing at Ken, but missed and hit Undertaker in the forehead. The finish came when Taker got busted open by MVP’s chair shot. Kennedy defeated MVP at 9:22. After the match, Kennedy tried to gloat with a post-match promo, but Taker sat up and destroyed him wit a chair shot (that busted Kennedy open). The Deadman eventually gave him a shaky looking Tombstone and repeatedly struck him in the head. (CMV1 rating- * ¾)

Backstage, King Booker cut a promo about beating Batista…

Match 6: WWE Champion John Cena, Kane, Bobby Lashley, Rob Van Dam, and Sabu vs. ECW Champion Big Show, Finlay, MVP, Test, and Umaga (w/ Armando Alejandro Estrada)

-(CMV1 note- the refs took Finlay’s shillelagh before the mat). Cena got a mixed reaction and started against Umaga. Umaga found himself in the wrong corner and tried to fight everyone, opening himself up to an offensive barrage from the WWE champion. RVD and Cena took turns beating on Finlay, as Umaga grabbed a monitor. Umaga came in and drilled RVD with the monitor and got the DQ. Umaga was eliminated at 1:00. All hell broke loose, but Finlay managed to ram RVD back-first into the apron. As the match settled back down, Finlay tagged Test and singled out Van Dam. RVD tried to come back with a reverse cross body off the second rope, but Test caught him with a backbreaker. Finlay tagged back in and focused on RVD’s ribs and mid-section. MVP tagged in and kneed Van Dam in the stomach before locking in a sleeper hold. RVD was bleeding from the mouth, as he got to his feet and tried to make a come back with a quick roll-up and a spinning wheel kick. Van Dam scored with a mulekick on MVP, a pressing kick to Test, and a step over wheel kick on Finlay. RVD then tried for Rolling Thunder on MVP, but Test grabbed his feet and dragged him to the outside. Test ended up getting pushed into the post. Meanwhile, Kane chokeslammed MVP, allowing RVD to hit the Five Star for the pin. MVP was eliminated at 5:42. Test came in and gave RVD a running big boot for the pin on Van Dam. RVD was eliminated at 5:40. Eventually, Sabu pinned Test. Test was eliminated at 6:30. Sabu tried to hit a springboard move on Big Show, but the ECW Champ countered and chokeslammed him. Sabu was eliminated at 6:41. Show and Kane then tried to chokeslam each other. The Little Bastard ran in and distracted the ref, allowing Finlay to hit Kane with the shillelagh. Kane was eliminated at 7:28. Finlay and Show were left to duke it out with Lashley and Cena as the match finally settled down a bit. Cena, who was not a crowd favorite, got singled out by the heels. Finlay dominated and then tagged Show. Big Show chopped him in the corner and tagged Finlay back into the match. Finlay focused on Cena’s mid-section and went to the second rope. He came off looking for a double axe handle, but Cena got his boot up. Cena then hot-tagged Lashley, who proceeded to dominate Finlay with an overhead, one-armed throw. Lashley and Cena tried to double team Show, but the ECW Champ gave them a double clothesline. Finlay grabbed the Little Bastard and tried to lawn dart him into the faces. However, Lashley speared him. Cena caught the Bastard in mid-air and tried to give him the FU, but Show caught him with a big boot. Meanwhile, Lashley pinned Finlay. Finlay was eliminated at 10:22. Big Show had to fend off both Cena and Lashley, who gave him a double DDT for a near fall. Later, they gave him a double vertical suplex. Cena followed with the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Show grabbed Cena for the chokeslam soon after, but Lashley distracted him from hitting it. Cena then hit the FU for the win. Show was eliminated at 12:38. Sole Survivors- John Cena and Lashley. Team Cena defeated Team Big Show at 12:38. (CMV1 rating- ** ¾)

A video package aired to hype the World Heavyweight title match…

Before the main-event, SD GM Teddy Long came to the ring and re-iterated that this was Batista’s last chance to win the title against Booker. He said that he was going to spice up the match a little, though, by making it impossible for Booker to retain the title via CO or DQ…

Match 7: World Heavyweight Champion King Booker (w/ Sharmell) vs. Batista

-Batista didn’t want to wait for Booker to get to the ring, so he went after him on the ramp. Big Dave rammed him into the guardrail. He then punched him repeatedly at ringside before finally throwing him into the ring to officially start the match. Batista connected on a back elbow smash for an early near fall. Booker gave him a cheap shot and a series of forearms, but Batista threw him in the corner, elbowed, and chopped him down to size. The challenger hit a vertical suplex and geared up for the powerbomb, but Booker rolled out of the ring. Sharmell reminded the King that he couldn’t get counted out. The ref got to 9, but Booker got to the apron and tried to hang Batista’s neck across the top rope. Batista countered and hung Booker’s neck across the top rope before giving him a backbreaker for a near fall. A hard short-armed clothesline followed…and then another one…and then another one for a near fall. The crowd was fairly dead at that point. Batista choked Booker across the bottom rope. Booker finally gained some momentum when he lifted Batista in the air and dropped him neck-first across the top rope. The King stomped away before giving him a rope guillotine that had Batista gasping for air. Booker then hit a pressing kick for a near fall. The champ continued his assault in the corner with chops and forearms, leaving the challenger in a heap. Back to the center of the ring, Batista tried to make a comeback, but Booker gave him a thumb to the eye. Book then gave him a running clothesline in the corner. An awkward exchange followed, with Batista eventually giving Booker a sidewalk slam and a Jackhammer slam for a pair of near falls. The crowd died even more after the awkward spot. Book tried to get back in the match, but Batista caught him with a modified Black Hole Slam for another near fall. The two then battled to the apron, but Batista hit Booker with a back elbow that sent the champ back into the ring. Booker came right back with a pressing kick that sent Batista off the apron and crashing into the guardrail (thanks to a Sharmell distraction). Book rammed Batista’s face into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Booker scored a near fall w/ his foot on the ropes. JBL called TRL a racist for changing the match stipulations. Booker, meanwhile, taunted the crowd, allowing Dave to try and make a comeback with repeated right handed shots. However, Booker caught him with a crescent heel kick to swing momentum back in his favor. The King grounded the challenger with a wear down hold (a modified Cobra Clutch). Batista made it back to his feet, as the crowd finally woke up and chanted for him. He broke the hold and eventually connected with a belly-to-belly suplex. The Animal then hit a pair of hard clotheslines and a running clothesline in the corner. Batista scored with a big boot that sent Booker to the outside. Batista threw Booker into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Batista went to the top rope and came off with a diving shoulder tackle for a near fall! Booker tried to get in some offense, but Batista hit a spinebuster for a close near fall. Booker came back with the Book End for a near fall and geared up for the scissor kick, but Batista countered and went for the Batista Bomb. He connected, but when he went for the cover, Booker grabbed the bottom rope with his right hand. Sharmell then handed Book the championship and distracted the ref. Batista grabbed her and set her up for the Batista Bomb, but didn’t end up going for it. When he turned around, Booker tried to hit him with the World title belt. However, Batista ducked it, grabbed the belt, and blasted the King with the gold while the ref’s back was still turned. The finish came when Batista pinned King Booker. Batista became World Heavyweight Champion at 14:34. (CMV1 rating- ** ¾)
