ECW News: Two WWE superstars make the switch over to the new ECW

# At last night's ECW house show in Altoona, PA, fans got a suprise when Smackdown superstar Hardcore Holly and Raw superstar Matt Striker made their debut for the new version of Extreme Championship Wrestling.

 

Holly, who is just coming back after a life-threating injury, worked as a heel against Balls Mahoney, getting the win with the Alabama Slam.

 

Striker, who has been in a semi-feud with Rob Conway lately on Heat, was the MC of the "Best Body" contest between Francine & Kelly Kelly.

 

No word yet on why the WWE decided to move these two superstars away from their respective brands to ECW, but we will keep you informed when we have more information.

SummerSlam News: Injuries, HHH-Hogan crowd reaction, JBL's commentary, and lots more

# Word from backstage at SummerSlam last night was that Shawn Michaels' arm injury was said to be fine after the tag match against the McMahons. Although there was concern from Michaels when he tweaked it, he was said to be walking around backstage and moving his arm without any problems.

 

# Mick Foley needed 25 stitches after his "I Quit" match with Ric Flair.

 

# There were a few strange instances during the DX-McMahons match which a few superstars commented on, including Triple H selling the chokeslam forever then coming back like nothing had happened, ignoring of the referee throughout the match, etc.

 

# On the subject of DX, it was clear that Triple H was trying to get a bigger crowd reaction than Hulk Hogan, something people picked up on backstage and found amusing.

 

# The people at ringside Triple H interacted with after his match were indeed his family. Some of it was picked up on camera.

 

# Kurt Angle was meant to be part of last night's ECW Title match but had to pull out due to a groin injury.

 

# JBL's commentary didn't go down well amongst some, especially the line about Eddie Guerrero and "the wagon."

Due to personal issues, Kurt Angle has been granted an early release from his contract. WWE looks forward to establishing a new relationship with Kurt in the near future.

 

The only Olympic gold medalist in WWE history, Kurt Angle arrived in 1999 and quickly became one of the most decorated champions in sports-entertainment history. "The Wrestling Machine" is not only a six-time World Champion, but also held the Intercontinental Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship; he also won the 2000 King of the Ring tournament. Recently joining ECW, Angle’s unmatched intensity was rivaled only by his technical and athletic in-ring prowess.

 The Rock returns

At WrestleMania XX, the Rock had his current last match with WWE. In March of 2004, Mick Foley was facing seemingly overwhelming odds against Ric Flair, Batista, and Randy Orton, the stable collectively known as Evolution. The Rock returned to aid his old friend and the match was made for WMXX to feature Mick & the Rock against Flair, Batista and Orton. Evolution emerged victorious after Orton nailed Foley with an RKO and scored the pinfall. The Rock would later participate in numerous antics over the summer of 2004 with the Diva Search contestants, Randy Orton and Eugene. He has not made a live appearance on WWE television since, although his bio continues to be listed on WWE.com as a "RAW Superstar". In a recent interview he said that the only way he'd return to the WWE is if he worked with someone who made sense.

During interviews conducted in 2005, Johnson revealed that his contract with World Wrestling Entertainment expired at the end of 2004. He also stated that he is able to continue using his stage name The Rock as part of a dual-ownership agreement with WWE. Pro Wrestling Insider has since reported that Johnson and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon are back on good terms, and he will continue to appear sporadically for the company, as he did after becoming a successful actor. Announcer Jim Ross' Happy Birthday announcement to The Rock on RAW's May 2 2005 broadcast seemed to confirm this, as Ross stated that The Rock is looking forward to future appearances in WWE. It is unknown whether Johnson has signed a new contract (although the fact that he still remains on the WWE website as a superstar for the RAW brand suggests he may have signed some form of contract or agreement). However, in May 2006 in an interview on WWE.com Michael Cole asked The Rock if fans will see him on RAW or SmackDown in the near future. He answered as only The Rock can, “Just as sure as I whoop ass and have a million dollar smile! Don’t think I’m ever going away for good. I’ll show up when you least expect it!”

On August 24, 2006 on WWEShop.com, WWE released a "Layeth Down the Smacketh Down" shirt with a brahma bull logo on the back of the shirt. This is a hint on the return of The Rock.

Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler aren't the only long tenured WWE Divas leaving the company. Lita plans on leaving WWE very soon as well.

 

Lita's WWE contract is expiring in the next month or two and there are currently no negotiations taking place for a new deal. There is no negativity within the company as she isn't missing any shows, nor is she refusing to do anything on television.

 

Lita is looking to get into acting, although not necessarily at the big-time level like several other of her wrestling peers. Lita's had several strong years financially (usually in the $450,000 range), not to mention that she's never lived extravagantly and thus she can go a long time without having any financial issues.

 

Also, the company would welcome her back with open arms should she ever decide to return. Internally, the feeling regarding her potential return to the company is good. There is a good chance that she will return to WWE sometime down the line, although she's expected to be gone for quite some time.

CineMax will air an episode of Hotel Erotica name "Model Behavior" this weekend (check local listings). This episode does feature current WWE Diva Candice Michelle nude. Please note that this episode was produced couple of years ago and that the original air date was back in 2002, right before Candice started working for WWE.

Steve Austin returned to the United States this past Thursday as he has been out of the country filming his newest movie with WWE Films in Australia.

 

Shane McMahon was backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom for ECW on Sci Fi a couple of weeks ago. Several people backstage commented on how much Shane seemed to be enjoying himself, obviously enjoying the intimate atmosphere of the small venue and the "traditional" ECW feeling. Although a bit vulgar, the fans at the Hammerstein Ballroom are always very passionate.

 

Contradicting rumors that the end is near for Degeneration X and the Spirit Squad, John Cena is being promoted through advance local advertisements to be teaming with DX to take on the Spirit Squad at a show in Hartford, Connecticut after SummerSlam.

Local adverts during this week’s WWE RAW was advertising RVD vs. Big Show for the ECW Title and Tommy Dreamer vs. Kurt Angle as the main matches for the August 21st ECW House Show in Altoona, PA.

 

The 2006 WWE Diva Search finals will air tonight from the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. The show starts at 10 PM Eastern on the USA Network.

 

The Hardy Boyz will be reuniting for a special autograph session on October 13 in Massepequa, Long Island at the New York Sportsworks. For details, call (516) 541-4475.

It looks like Chris Benoit will be making his in-ring return to WWE sometime within the next month. He has been taking time off and rehabbing some nagging injuries.

 

Right now there is no word on what role he will play or storyline he will be involved with when he returns.

It’s said that Dave Batista is currently dating a Diva under contract with WWE, and The W365 Newsletter reports that his new love interest is none other than the recently signed Diva Search loser Rebecca DiPietro.

 

Batista is currently in the midst of a divorce, and has a lot of backstage heat on him for how he conduced himself at an ECW event earlier this month when the crowd turned on him.

ECW's Kurt Angle is being advertised on the SmackDown brand house on September 18 in Ottawa.

 

In the latest issue of TV Guide features a on the celebrity contestants of “Celebrity Duets’ and former WWE Champion Chris Jericho is a feature. The story features information on what the celebrities are most known for and list Chris Jericho as "Kicking butt in WWE". The story also mentions that Fozzy has sold 120,000 records worldwide. Jericho says this about preparation for Fozzy: "My singing voice is just fine and dandy. I gargled some whiskey, smoked a few cigarettes -I'm good to go."

 

Kelly Carlson who plays a role in John Cena’s upcoming movie "The Marine" has recently been interviewed by about.com. She speaks on her role in the movie as John Cena's wife.

Lita is part of a punk rock band called The Luchagors and they will be playing at a rock and wrestling event called "ROCK-N-SHOCK" on Thursday, Sept. 14 at The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA. Also, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Vince Russo, Glacier and a host of other wrestlers and musicians will be signing autographs at this event. Click here for more information.

 

WWE is auctioning off the boots Ashley Massaro wore for every single match she had on RAW. These are the same boots she wore when she got injured back in February. Doctors had to cut off her boots after she got injured - which is probably why they're auctioning them off as they aren't in usable condition anymore. Click here to see the auction. The Rock will be in Detroit to attend a screening of "Gridiron Gang" at the Phoenix movie theaters on Friday.

WWE has released the official WWE No Mercy 2006 PPV poster and it features King Booker, Sharmell and a dragon in a medieval setting. Apparently, Booker slayed the dragon on the poster. The poster looks really nice and its probably one of the best looking posters WWE has ever done. Click here to see it. Also, there was another No Mercy PPV poster floating around the internet featuring The Undertaker. It appears as though that it was a fake all along. Click here to see that particular poster.

As seen on RAW this past week, Mick Foley joined Vince McMahon's "Kiss My Ass" club and then he was "fired" for the time being. It looks like this segment was the start of a long-term angle as there are plans for Mick Foley to wrestle Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 23. In a bit of trivia, Vince McMahon offered Foley the chance to wrestle him at Wrestlemania 17, but he nixed the idea because he was still retired at the time. In subsequent interviews, Foley regretted not wrestling McMahon at Wrestlemania 17.

 

A happy birthday to Vince McMahon as he turned 61 years old today.
