yokoloke
bytearray's comment is very true, but for me 85mm is a bit pricey, i think it is around 17k and up for canon (f1.8)while 50mm(f/1.4) is only 4k in hidalgo is the price on the 50mm f1.4 correct? wow that is cheap...i'm a nikon user and the nikon f1.8 is around P5500...and the 1.4 is much much higher...(don't remember anymore)... there is an advantage for the 85mm lens if used for portraiture...you have more flexibility in terms of shooting distance from your subject. also, if i am not mistaken, the 85mm lens (for nikon) is also a macro lens...so 2 birds with one stone... PartPastTime
Im using a Canon 450D and I upgraded my basic lense to 18 to 200mm. Photography is more of a hooby for me rather than doing it for professionally. I usually travel once a year and I always bring this dslr with me to capture moments... Nag try ako sumali sa mga local competitions and sinuwerte na rin na manalo. Pero, I dont use photo shop to edit my pictures. Wala kasi ako photo shop at di rin naman ako marunong gumamit nun... I just shoot, tapos adjust ng camera tapos shoot ulit. I just play around with the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Im going to Bahrain this September 9 to 12 to have a photo walk there. Share ko na lang dito yung pics na makukuha ko if everyone would permit... Quote Link to comment

EFF-EXS
I'm a newbie sa photography working here in SG.I use a EOS 550D Canon lenses 18-550 (Kit) and 55-250mm. Mahal na hobby, pero the best advise given to me is this.Invest less on the camera body and more on the lens. Pinagiipunan ko pa ang pambili ng legit na photoshop for post processing... If you're into this like me, well be sure to work on a budget... Edited January 30, 2011 by EFF-EXS Quote Link to comment

If you're into this like me, well be sure to work on a budget... Haha, my bad posted na pala on this. Well in response to all your comments. It is true that the 18-55MM is a bad choice.Though the lens is very much indespensable. It can be fitted with lens extensions to do other works like standard macro or ultra-wide angle shots. I'll go for a 50mm 1.8f as the 1.4f doesn't fit with my budget.Still working on getting this lens though. I had an additional lens 55-250MM for standard zooms. The lens is adequate for regular events that I cover and street shoots which I fancy a lot. My primary objective as a photographer is to be creative and cost effective. With this, I invest on what equipment I'll get. Which reminds me this, it will all come down to post production. EFF-EXS
Whether you're into Film or Digital, it boils down to both preference and convenience. The principles of photography nevertheless remains the same. If you do not understand what you're doing even if you're using a DSLR, you won't get great pictures. Ang hirap kasi sa atin, maraming epal na "feeling photographer" coz they have DSLRs strapped around their necks. Ayun it just became another status symbol since these things are rather expensive. Its pathetic really. This is sad, but true...I saw a lot of them noong umuwi ako ng Pilipinas.Kahit din naman dito sa SG marami nyan, including myself to them. Owning a DSLR is one thing, being a photograper is another.Kaya nga ang tanong ko sa sarili ko bago ko pindutin ung shutter button, will I be able to convey the proper message with my pictures? But this doesn't stop me instead it burns within me as a passion. So learn from every picture that you shoot.Learn from the people and things around you. Cheers. Quote Link to comment

RiverJordan
The best ang Sigma lense.Mahal nga lang sa Pinas... I've ordered a Sigma f/1.4 EX DG HSM recently but I've yet to receive it.compared to the Canon f/1.4 the Sigma produces better bokeh, though there have been mentions of AF issues. we'll see, hopefully I don't get a dud one.
