Just acquired 4 red bellied pi#&ha, any body here has experience taking care of this magnificent fishes?

nice!

experience ko they are very sensitive sa change of temperature.

true. when the temperature increases, the agrression also increases

red bellies... are hardy fishes... as long as they are fed ok sila.. they are not aggressive if you keep only a few, lets say less than a dozen, pero kung 1 school talaga siya... dun sila nagiging aggressive... they are not as aggressive as their cousins the black belly piranha...

easy to keep ang problem e lagi mabaho ang water, they have this feeding style na hahatiin nya lng yung torso ng feeders... kaya ayun palagi mabaho ang water at over head filter...

ganda din yan... pogi! :D

agree.

by the way, I think they are classified as a scavenger and not a hunter.

madumi nga talaga sila kumain.

i got mine since 1 peso size tapos ngayon mga 7 inches or 8 na sila tip to tip out of the water.

key element mo talaga is temperature.

big difference from the pacus kasi mabilis lumaki ang pacu. the biggest i saw sa monster fish keepers.com e around 3 feet.

sa pogi naman e 12 inches ang nakita ko. pero alam ko may 14 and 16 pero iba lahi. i think paraya un

good luck with the pogi

piranha-fury.com and opefe.com.

in my opinoun Kok in all cichlids including "flwr horn" are not a result of what you feed them.... cichlids usually develop hump or kok sa forehead because siya ang alpha male ng group nila....

Yan ang natural way to achieve yon hump sa head or KOK

nice info.

dither fish ba talaga tawag dun at hindi target fish?

how bout another way?

like buy from a respected breeder na pwede mong makita both male and female parents ng kahit ilang piraso tpos sa grow out tank muna hanggang 3 inches or 4 para makita kung may potential ba or wala.

(at least walang bugbugan.) hehehe

in my opinion e yan ang ginaganda at kinahirap ng isang isda na pinangalanan na "Hybrid".

there is a possibility na kung sino pa ung naging kulelat sa pag laki e maging kokster pag nai solo mo sa isang tank. As the saying goes "youll never know what your gonna get".

kaya nakakaadik ang pag alaga ng FH.

Dither fish is same as target fish... :D

I'm talking of cichlids in general.. since fh are cichlids also siguro pareho rin lang to develop a humpy head....

But i maybe wrong since ndi talaga ako alaga ng fh but cichlids na pure breed alaga ako...Ksi FH are crossbred.. Think about this kung bibili ka ng aso gusto mo ba ng crossbreed na aso ? dba ndi.... Yon ang reason why ndi ako alaga ng fh or parrot cichlids ..... Pero to each his own dba? kanyang kanya trip lang yan

i would disagree... remember that flowerhorns are "genetically" engineered species, a product of cross-breeding. u wont see true FH fishes in the wild thus the rule of developing a "status" symbol KOK becomes irrelevant. FH's is a result of cross breeding from different cichlid species, getting the best traits from one species and passing it off to its offspring thru cross-breeding, until the desired strain is achieved. The role of genetics plays a more vital role in developing koks. 2 types of kok, hard kok and the soft kok, hard koks are hard to develop and may take years before it really grows, soft koks on the other hand can easily be seen even in the juvenile stages. AFAIK there are still no studies that may prove otherwise that FH food may give FHs an advantage in developing koks. coloration yes, kok i am not sure

just my 2 cents... no flames though... :D

Anyone here knows where to find a dovii aka wolf fish? They say these critters are the most aggressive freshwater fish. Also the asian redtail catfish.

Make sense ! you're absolutely correct.

And FH pellets may help the enhancement of the kok but not necessarily to gain a kok.

Trying out salt water aquarium for the first time.

Like what type of equipment are you looking for? Kasi though there are stuff that are value for your money at QMark, not everything there is recommended for marine.

It's an aggressive fish but it's not the most. Doviis can be bought in cartimar P100 -P150 each same thing with the RTC.
