The T5500 is only 1.66Ghz processor speed not 1.83Ghz as far as I know. unless its a T5550. A T7*** Santa Rosa might be a better choice with a 4MB L2 cache, if it doesnt cost that much more. -wasted-
l2 cache is the primary storage & transition memory storage area of the cpu or processor, before the ramit's built in into the processor & the greater the cache the faster your applications run, in other words faster processing 4 mb l2 cache in a notebook (or desktop) is a very recent phenomenon., only the intel core 2 duo processors of family t7x00 have 4 mb l2 cache., the t5x00 series has 2 mb ! application dependant, for gaming & multitasking, sure the t7200 is an awesome processor @ 2,0 ghz, 667 mhz fsb, 4 mb l2 cachethe t7400 & t7600 are even faster, but the price differential is not justified i feel i would be happy with the t7200 ! The L2 cache memory is the embedded memory on your CPU Chip. The current series of Core 2 CPU for laptops comes with 2 MB only. Typically the cache memory helps to boost system performance and 2MB should be sufficient for most mobile processing purposes. If you are a hardcore *pardon the punt* user, you may want to upgrade your RAM and HDD instead since changing the CPU chip is going to be more costly. Besides, you have to make sure your laptop motherboard supports the 4MB CPU models if there are any excerps from yahoo Quote Link to comment

ElRey
guys, try to help us newbies out... answer us like we are 5 years old, what is nvidia? what is ati? what is geforce? are they brands? why do i notice other "brands" carry these designations? what is GS compared to GT? Inno3D to EVGA? 7300 to 8800? ddr ? (i know my MOBO is PCIExpress, but what is 16? 8? etc) If i'm not much of a gamer (although it would be nice to have the capability), I'm interested in Flight Simulator, and very much into photoshop and video editing I'm ready to spend no more than P2k to P2,500 is that not enough? would i, could i get better deals in the US? online? what do you recommend? 256k, 512k? I'm puzzled... Edited January 20, 2008 by ElRey Quote Link to comment
johnlove
guys, try to help us newbies out... answer us like we are 5 years old, what is nvidia? what is ati? what is geforce?nvidia & ati - both companies are video card chipset designers who also manufacture their own cards.geforce is one of the models of nvidia are they brands? why do i notice other "brands" carry these designations?Aside from manufacturing their own video cards, nvidia & ati also 'franchise' the design of the chipset to other companies. what is GS compared to GT? Inno3D to EVGA?GS is a lower end - normally used in business application ie displaying pictures in microsoft word, GT is the higher end - normally used in games 7300 to 8800? ddr ? (i know my MOBO is PCIExpress, but what is 16? 8? etc)models of video cards, GeForce 7xxx series (7300, 7600, 7800, 7900) were released way back 2005-2006. Geforce 8xxx series (8400, 8500, 8600, 8800) were released last year & this year. If i'm not much of a gamer (although it would be nice to have the capability), I'm interested in Flight Simulator, and very much into photoshop and video editing I'm ready to spend no more than P2k to P2,500 is that not enough? would i, could i get better deals in the US? online? For Flight Simulator, photoshop, & video editing, get a minimum of 7600gt, & unfortunately, P2,500 is not enough. But you can buy used 7600gt at a much cheaper price from gamers who are upgrading. what do you recommend? 256k, 512k?For Flight Simulator, photoshop, & video editing, 256k is good enough. 512k is useful only when playing demanding games with high end videocards(8800gt up). I'm puzzled... I hope this helps Edited January 20, 2008 by johnlove Quote Link to comment
