I was the one beaten up by my former partner;  read:  physically abused

I will admit this though;  the only time I hit her was out of self defense.

She kept on hitting me in the nape (batok) at sa jugular area ng neck.

I thought katapusan ko na;  good thing the defense mechanism in my brain kicked in.

I never really understood why people would intentionally try and hurt the ones they care for. Whether physically, emotionally or otherwise. You're supposed to trust and appreciate those you care for. If your SO somehow makes your emotions volatile, then that's not love, and you should avoid that person and move on.

On the flip side though, women are adults too. If they are threatening or inflicting violence, then IMHO men should do what is necessary in self-defense to protect themselves.

Always ako nakakasaksi ng bugbugan ng couples kasi I allow my staffs na isama yung boyfriends nila sa staffhouse.

(To make them stay longer which is very effective kasi I only prefer stay ins)

Pag kinakausap ko na sila after the fight scene, ang madalas rason ng lalaki either napahiya kasi sila dahil binungangaan din sa harap ng iba, or nauna nanakit yung gf nila tapos madaming nakakita. 

Pero dati kasi yun haha ngayon hinahayaan ko nalang sila kasi magbabati din naman sila, sayang lang oras ko at wala rin akong maipapayo kundi maghiwalay nalang sila dahil ganon dn gagawin ko pag may nanakit sakin physically hahaha. 😂

In terms of culture:

It can be cultural in nature (In the arab world if your wife is non compliant its one of their usual methods that help instill authority at home).

For Turkish citizens this is also a practice that is not unusual.

For the Chinese men are definitely held in higher regard and do not take lightly to women speaking up against them.

 

In terms of physical abuse:

Gender Equality comes into play.

Women (especially in the west) tend to believe that they are able to excercise a certain degree of violence on men under the premise that they are physically weaker and tend to use it as a shield. (The belief that a gentleman will accept physical punishment to uphold the standards of being a man is now an illusion)

You will usually see men fight back in this day and age because the new generation of men do not believe in being simps/weak men.
