  1. This is my LSS right now. An 80's/New Wave Song entitled "Two Rivers" by the Adventures... Upload ko din ito maya maya sa multiply ko

They might say we can't go on

They will try to burn you down

What they say can make you strong

But they can't see no reason

    When I'm talking to you

Don't let behind the reasons why we've come this far

You'll feel the pride of what we are

Two Rivers run to see and catch your falling stars

In troubled times come to me for shelter

I'll be running to be with you and...

I'm willing to make that deal

Is there a chance to carry on

If they could feel the way I feel

    They would see the reason

    Why I'm talking to you.

Don't let behind the reasons why we've come this far

You'll feel the pride of what we are

Two Rivers run to see and catch your falling stars

In troubled times come to me for shelter

I'll be running to be with you again...

    Two rivers run...

    Two rivers run...

Don't let behind the reasons why we've come this far

You'll feel the pride of what we are

Two Rivers run to see and catch your falling stars

When the darkest hour surrounds you

    Come to me for shelter

I'll be running to be with you...

    Again...

Don't let behind the reasons why we've come this far (Two Rivers Run)

You'll feel the pride of what we are

Two Rivers run to see and catch your falling stars (Two Rivers Run)

Don't let behind the reasons why...

Don't let behind the reasons why...

    Two rivers run...

  2. NBA:

    Stephon Marbury

    Steve Francis

    Eddy Curry

(Bakit parang new york knicks lahat )

    PBA:

Andy Seigle - am not sure if he was the top pick that time but he did not develop into a marquee player

Alex Cabagnot - Too much hype. I think they even compared him to be better than Jimmy Alapag

Jun Limpot - Too Soft. Although has that decent jumpshot, you don't see his all out attitude to win

Yves Dignadice - Although he was one of my favorite players, he did not live up to his total billing (I remember after the 1989 open conference, he was 3rd after paras and fernandez in the statistical points, then went downhill)

  3. SAN MIGUEL PULLS OFF ANOTHER MIRACLE WIN FOR FINAL 4 SEAT

Calaguio, Gonzales star in Beermen’s amazing comeback

    Sunday, 17 June 2007

San Miguel Beer pulled off another escape act in a knockout game, completing the brew in the 2007 Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Conference Final Four.

The Beermen joined the Red Bull Barakos, the Alaska Aces and the Talk N Text Phone Pals in the semis mix as they survived a fourth straight do-or-die match on a scintillating 117-114 overtime win over the Barangay Ginebra Kings Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

San Miguel fought back from a 16-point deficit midway through the last quarter and outlasted Ginebra in overtime to advance to the semis against old rival Alaska.

Game One of the best-of-seven semis series is Wednesday in the same venue.

"It’s gonna be exciting. I know coach Tim (Cone) and I know Rosell (Ellis) with whom I’ve had a lot of battles in the US. It’s gonna be a battle," said San Miguel import Galen Young, who’s up against his former team Alaska in the semis.

Young, along with Chris Calaguio and Wesley Gonzales, played a stellar role as the Beermen avenged their loss to the Kings in the recent All-Filipino Finals.

"We fought every step of the way," said Young, finishing the game and completing a swashbuckling performance although picking up his fifth foul with still 46.8 seconds left in the third period.

Gonzales starred in San Miguel’s searing fourth-quarter chase while Calaguio stood tall in the overtime play. Gonzales made 10 of his 20 points in the fourth period while Calaguio scored nine of his 19 in the extension period.

Then there were Dorian Pena and LA Tenorio helping along the way as the Beermen overcame an 83-99 deficit with 6:26 left in the final period.

"It was so special winning that way," said coach Siot Tanquingcen as his Beermen pulled off another Houdini act, practically the same way they survived the Coca-Cola Tigers in the wildcard round.

"It was a heck of a game. There was a moment when we lost our focus and we messed up playing Ginebra’s game. But we regrouped and refocused on what brought us here….. playing no-nonsense defense," Tanquingcen also said.

The Beermen held the Kings in check towards the end of overtime, breaking free from a 111-all standoff to eventually win the contest.

In regulation period, the Beermen pulled even at 104-all on an amazing 21-5 run, and the two teams went scoreless in the final 1:18 of play.

Calaguio fired a trey to shatter the 111-all deadlock, then after Rod Nealy missed his own three-point attempt, LA Tenorio buried two free throws to all but settle the outcome of the game.

The Kings blew away a chance for a double-championship in the season, and with it went Nealy’s chance for the Best Import award.

Mark Macapagal rifled in a triple at the buzzer and the Kings carried a 56-51 lead over to the second half.

Macapagal and Sunday Salvacion both went 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, giving Nealy valuable support as they enjoyed the lead at the turn despite a tentative start.

The Kings trailed by eight, 24-32, at the end of the first quarter and only had their first taste of the lead at 46-45 on a drive-in basket by Ronald Tubid. (NC)

    The scores:

    San Miguel 117 – Gonzales 20, Calaguio 19, Tenorio 17, Young 17, Ildefronso 14, Villanueva 9, Adriano 9, Pena 9, Racela 3, Wilson 0.

    Ginebra 114 – Nealy 37, Macapagal 19, Salvacion 17, Tubid 14, Menk 11, Santos 7, Abarrientos 5, Mamaril 4, Seigle 0.

    Quarterscores: 32-24, 51-56, 74-83, 104-104 (reg.), 117-114 (OT)

  4. ILDEFONSO NUMBERS, INTANGIBLES KEY FOR SMB

Player of the Week June 4 to 10

    Monday, 11 June 2007

There are many marks of a great player and they are not merely numbers.

Like Danny Ildefonso, who has come up with more than just figures to help San Miguel Beer crash the quarterfinals of the Talk ‘N Text-PBA Fiesta Conference and earn himself a coveted individual citation in the process.

“Maraming intangibles siyang ibinibigay sa team and I guess those make him the great player he truly is,” said SMB head coach Siot Tanquingcen of the forward named as the PBA Press Corps' ACCEL-Talk ‘N Text Player of the Week for the period June 4 to 10.

It was the second such citation the 30-year-old Ildefonso earned in three weeks, evoking memories of his fiery form when he won the league’s highest individual award in 2000 and 2001, a span wherein he also won five consecutive Best Player of the Conference awards.

The numbers are impressive enough: 18.5 points, six rebounds, two assists, 1.5 blocked shots in the Beermen’s wins over Sta. Lucia Realty and Coca-Cola in the week that was.

In a 102-85 win over the Realtors last Friday, Ildefonso had 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and as many blocks in 30 minutes and followed that up with 18 points on 8-for-14 field shooting, six rebounds, two assists and a block in 27 minutes in their 102-101 win over the Tigers last Sunday.

“It’s no secret na siya ang pinaka-threat naming offensively. And those numbers, yun yung MVP na Danny I,” Tanquingcen said of the statistics put up by the 1998 No. 1 Draft pick and Rookie of the Year.

But there’s more. The Beermen seemed certain to bow down in defeat to the Tigers after being down by four points in the last 14 seconds and by 99-101, only 9.7 ticks left.

Then Ildefonso came up with two huge plays. First, he helped force Coke’s John Arigo to a traveling violation and then, in the ensuing play, gave a high pick that freed up Galen Young for what would turn out to be a game-winning three-point play.

“I couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Tanquingcen. “He’s not only been giving us MVP numbers, but he’s also doing the small things. He’s been setting picks, rebounding and even in our defensive rotation nandoon siya.”

Main reason why Tanquingcen leads those who believe Ildefonso will continue to play a big role in SMB’s remaining games starting with a best-of-three quarterfinals duel with Barangay Ginebra starting tomorrow.

“Alam ng lahat na kailangan ng mag-trabaho and no one knows this, takes this to the heart, more than Danny I,” Tanquingcen pointed out.

  5. Oh yeah, I remember those galaxy yoyos!

SAN MIGUEL TRIPS TNT, GETS SHOT AT QF

Ticket to semis, quarters at stake on playoff Wednesday

    Sunday, 03 June 2007

San Miguel Beer battles Air21 in a one-game playoff to decide which team takes the last outright entry into the quarterfinal round of the 2007 Talk n Text PBA Fiesta Conference.

The Beermen came from behind to whip the Talk n Text Phone Pals, 105-99, and catch up with the Express at fifth place at the close of the double-round eliminations at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.

Coach Siot Tanquingcen and his troops made it a double-playoff Wednesday since, with their win, they aided Barangay Ginebra in its own bid to forge a playoff with Alaska Milk for the second outright seat in the semifinals.

The double-playoff is set in the same venue with the Beermen and the Express clashing at 4:30 p.m. then the Kings and the Aces colliding at 7:20 p.m.

The loser in the San Miguel-Air21 showdown will be relegated into the wildcard plays.

"This win is huge for us because it gives us a shot at the quarters. It’s tough to go through the wildcard because it’s one lose and you’re out there," said Tanquingcen.

"Actually, we treated this game as the start of the playoffs. We conditioned ourselves as already fighting in the playoff phase," Tanquingcen added. "We survived a tough game tonight and we expect another tough game against Air21 Wednesday."

Tanquingcen said they can’t take Air21 lightly although the Express have lost main man Gary David to an ACL tear.

"Mahirap silang kalaban since they’re big, they can run and they never quit," said the youthful San Miguel mentor.

Curiously, never quit was something the Beermen did in overcoming a tentative start and a pair of 13-point leads midway through the third period.

San Miguel went on to deal Talk n Text the crucial loss, relegating the Pals to fourth place with an 11-7 card.

Had Talk n Text won, the Pals should have been the one to forge a playoff with the Aces.

The Beermen struggled in the first three quarters of play and had their first taste of the lead only at

90-89 on a basket by Galen Young with 3:40 left to play.

From 84-89 down, the Beermen actually unraveled a 9-0 run to surge ahead to stay at 93-89.

Young, Wesley Gonzales and Olse Racela played key roles in their endgame chase that carried them to their ninth win in their last 10 outings.

The Beermen, who started the tourney with six straight defeats, thus, drew level with the Express at 10-8. (NC)

    The scores:

    San Miguel 105 – Young 26, Ildefonso 22, Gonzales 12, Calaguio 12, Racela 10, Tenorio 8, Villanueva 7, Pena 5, Espinas 3, Wilson 0, Cablay 0.

    Talk n Text 99 – De Ocampo 21, Cardona 19, Carey 16, Sullinger 15, Washington 14, Billones 7, Belano 6, Allado 1, Fran 0, Pablo 0.

    Quarterscores: 21-26, 46-54, 73-76, 105-99

    Villanueva on the block?

john geoffrey dacanay May 17th, 2007 (Visited 103 times)

News around the league have the Red Bull Barakos franchise player Enrico Villanueva on the trading block. Villanueva has been struggling this season for Red Bull, and the emergence of former Shell benchwarmer Carlo Sharma have made him somewhat expendable.

According to reports, Villanueva and sophomore guard Larry Fonacier are headed to San Miguel for Rommel Adducul and Brandon Lee Cablay. A third team, Purefoods is also looking to make it three-way in the hopes of addressing their woes in the frontcourt. The Giants are reportedly dangling sophomore Jondan Salvador and a future draft pick or Jun Simon to land their coveted big man.

It is still unclear how this deal works out. Both the SMC and Photokina franchise have been mum on the issue and have not made any confirmation regarding the proposed deal. According to league insiders, San Miguel is hellbent on making this deal work, the hitch being the provisions of the Restricted Trading List (RTL) which prevents Villanueva from being dealt to another team in exchange for non-RTL players. If they intend to make this deal go down, the Beermen would have to part ways with Danny Seigle, and Purefoods with 2005-06 MVP James Yap or Kerby Raymundo. I don’t think both clubs would consent to this kind of deal and would probably ask the Commissioner, instead, to replace Villanueva with either Junthy Valenzuela or Mick Pennisi in the RTL.

Under the RTL, the Commissioner has the power to appoint players in the RTL, which means, only Noli Eala is authorized to name the franchise players for each team. If Comish decides to replace Villanueva in the RTL, we could see a fifth blockbuster trade this season in the offing. Villanueva could go to either Purefoods or San Miguel. Several sources disclose that this was a trade made for Purefoods with only San Miguel acting as a conduit. So if Purefoods lands Villanueva in the trade, would it help them right away? yes and no.

If this was done after the conference, I would say yes. The thought of a Kerby-Enrico tandem down the lane would be downright scary. Both can bang, score inside and defend the interior. However, I am not sure if Kerby meshes well with a guy like Enrico who will also demand the ball because he knows he can score too. It could also be recalled that just last season, both were involved in a heated race for the Fiesta Conference Best Player plum, with Enrico eventually winning out which prompted Kerby’s “ako ang tunay na mvp!” claim right on national television.

Without a doubt, however, I know both men are professional enough to let bygones be bygones and let their energies be channeled on the floor. If this trade goes down right now, I don’t see how it could benefit the Giants. Enrico is with the RP team right now and will miss the remainder of the Fiesta Cup. Losing Jondan Salvador and possibly Jun Simon would be disastrous to their campaign this conference. As you can see, the team is severely undermanned right now. They’re without Mark Pingris, Jun Limpot who are all down with injuries and Kerby Raymundo who is with the national team. Simon, on the other hand, has been phenomenal for the Giants this year. He is putting up career averages in virtually every statistical department. It would be such as a jolting loss if he is included in the swap.

One interesting scenario that could play out is this: Villanueva and Fonacier to San Miguel, Rommel Adducul to Purefoods, Jondan Salvador, Brandon Cablay, and possibly draft picks to Red Bull. At the onset, it looks like a terrible trade for Red Bull, talent-wise but don’t tell that to coach Yeng Guiao. Guiao has been a master of making lopsided trades turn into their favor. Jondan Salvador and Brandon Cablay does not compare with Villanueva and Fonacier, marketing-, and talent-wise but if there is any team who can make garbage out of gold, it is Red Bull. Salvador and Cablay looked to be great fits in a Red Bull lineup. They’re not stars but they’re willing to do what it takes to make their team win, and that’s the Red Bull mentality. San Miguel, on the other hand, would be overjoyed to have both Villanueva and Fonacier. With LA Tenorio, Olsen Racela and Wesley Gonzales already in the lineup, they’re primed to formed the next real Ateneo connection that could attract a swarm of fan following. If that happens, they will have a problem on whom to play among Pena, Ildefonso and Villanueva in the frontcourt, and among Hontiveros, Calaguio, Gonzales, Tugade and Fonacier in the backcourt and swing positions. It’s a big problem but it’s a nice problem to have. The Giants gets older as Rommel Adducul is already 31 compared to the 26-year old Salvador but he is big (6-6 225 lbs) and physically strong. He will give the Giants a banger inside a strong rebounder in the post. He will also be the perfect compliment to Kerby Raymundo since he loves to do the dirty work inside and does not take away the scoring opportunities from Kerby. Interior defense, rebounding and low post offense is what the Giants need and that’s what Rommel Adducul does for a living.

  8. HOT, HOT BEERMEN WIN AGAIN

Cablay, Racela lift SMB to 8th win in a row

    Sunday, 27 May 2007

Brandon Cablay made the most of his rare start and Olsen Racela sank four free throws in the final 30 seconds as the San Miguel Beermen won their eighth straight.

Cablay had a terrific night, capping it with two key plays in the closing minute to cushion the impact of Barangay Ginebra's desperate rally and led the Beermen to a 101-98 decision over the Kings Sunday in the 2007 Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

After Rod Nealy split his free throws to tie the count at 95-95 with 1:24 to play, SMB called time before Cablay (9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and an ounce of hustle) scored off Ginebra's reserve center Andy Seigle from the right low block. Then on SMB's next possession, the athletic guard grabbed an offensive rebound that paved the way for Racela's two free throws and a 99-95 lead that held on to the end.

"This is a big game for us. It’s tough to beat Ginebra but our guys gave them a heck of a challenge and made key plays in the end game,' said SMB coach Siot Tanquingcen, who is now 9-5 since taking over the coaching chores from assistant Biboy Ravanes.

Their eighth consecutive win improved the Beermen's record to 9-7 and gave them a slim chance of earning a free ride to the semifinals.

"Right now we're not looking elsewhere. Our mindset is focused on Air21. They're our next opponent and we need to win that game badly to improve our chance. If we finish at No. 2 so be it," Tanquingcen said.

Dorian Pena tallied 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Danny Ildefonso added 17 points for San Miguel, which won against Ginebra for the first time since Game 2 of last year's Philippine Cup Finals.

Galen Young turned in 12 points, 10 assists and 10 turnovers for a dubious triple double before fouling out with 84 seconds remaining. Despite his absence though, the Beermen managed to hang tough.

It was indeed a hard earned victory for the Beermen. And they did it by matching the Kings' intensity, grit, determination and tenacity off the boards.

"We never backed off. In the end that was what mattered,' Tanquingcen said.

Ronald Tubid scored 24 points and Nealy added 21 to go with just seven rebounds for the Kings, who picked up their sixth defeat and fell to 11-6 in a tie with Alaska and Talk N Text at second place.

The loss also jeopardized their chances to make the semifinals outright.

The Kings had a chance to force overtime after Racela (10 points) made two free throws to make the count 101-98 with 4.5 seconds. But Sunday Salvacion missed to desperate threes as time expired.

"Those were really good looks. We're lucky they didn't find the mark," Tanquingcen said. (DBC)

    The scores:

    San Miguel 101 – Pena 22, Ildefonso 17, Young 12, Calaguio 12, Racela 10, Cablay 9, Tenorio 8, Adducul 6, Gonzales 3, Wilson 2.

    Ginebra 98 – Tubid 24, Nealy 21, Abarrientos 18, Menk 8, Santos 8, Seigle 7, Salvacion 6, Mamaril 4, Chia 2, Macapagal 0.

    Quarters: 25-23, 47-44, 75-71, 101-98.

  9. SMB STILL IN OUTRIGHT SEMIS HUNT WITH EASY WIN

8 in double figures as Beermen score 7th straight win

    Wednesday, 23 May 2007

The rampaging San Miguel Beermen left no doubt early that they meant business against the Welcoat Dragons.

The Beermen thundered out of the gate and zoomed to the finish as they annihilated the Dragons, 119-79, to stay in the fight for an outright semis seat in the 2007 Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Conference at the Ynares Center in Antipolo Wednesday night.

"This is one of those nights when just everybody makes his shots. Sila naman halos lahat struggling," said coach Siot Tanquingcen as his Beermen notched their seventh straight win and eighth in 15 games in all.

Eight Beermen, led by Danny Ildefonso with 20 points, rattled in at least 10 as they made mincemeat of the Dragons, pulling off their biggest win since a 95-55 rout of the RP team during the 2003 Invitational Cup.

It was also the most lopsided game in the conference thus far.

The Beermen actually led by as many as 45 points in the fourth quarter as they pounded and pummeled the Dragons’ lackadaisical showing.

Welcoat virtually bombed out of the tourney on its 13th loss against three wins.

The Beermen continued their dramatic surge in the leaderboard but Tanquingcen played down their chances for an outright semis seat.

"We’re not even in the Top Five yet. We’ll just try to keep on winning and see what happens," said Tanquingcen.

"I may sound ungrateful to our streak of victories. Ayaw ko lang talagang umasa ng masyadong mataas, masakit madapa," he added.

The Beermen, now on their longest streak since an eight-game run under coach Chot Reyes in the recent Philippine Cup, are likely to face an acid test against the Barangay Ginebra Kings Sunday.

They hardly faced any challenge against Welcoat with only Wayland White and Alex Compton hitting their shots. Junjun Cabatu made some baskets when the game had long been over.

For all intents and purposes, it was all over right at the half with the Beermen taking a 56-33 bulge.

Galen Young scattered 12 points in the opening quarter and his coach saw no more reason to field him much the rest of the way.

The Beermen went 9-of-25 from the arc, 36-of-56 from the two-point zone and 20-of-27 from the stripe in their torrid attack.

Chris Calaguio was 3-of-4 from the three-point area with LA Tenorio adding two.

Omanzie Rodriguez played his first game in San Miguel’s red and white jersey while Rommel Adducul sat out the game due to amoebiasis. (NC)
