master pasensya na ubuntu user na ako eh. :goatee:
hahahaha, distro doesn't matter. linux is linux.

thanks for the update dude. pero, anakngtinapa, pareho pa din pala itsura ng slackware site. i don't remember na how long it has looked this way.
fave ko din 'to once upon a time, pero this distro has aged like milk (at least since the last time i checked it out which was a while back).
finds it so funny the slack team is not bothered about their website's appearance. the distro is still my favorite, and centos too.
Ok pa din naman siya bro. Dami na linux distro na nakapattern sa slackware. Even my fave distro which is backtrack alam ko slackware din a platform niya. Di ko lang talaga matagalan ang KDE. Maka gnome lang talaga ako. Hehehehehate KDE, try www.droplinegnome if you need a gui for slackware.

Patrick Volkerding announced the release of Slackware Linux 13.0, my favorite distro and the world's oldest surviving Linux distribution =)

Make that Squid+DansGuardian, makes one helluva dynamic content filter :thumbsupsmiley:
Smartasses will be scratching their butts =)

Salamat uli sa insight bro cruesome.
Game plan is to setup PXE server in a particular VLAN. Then I'll just move the servers that needs deployment to that particular VLAN and set all of them to PXE boot. Once booted I can do the kickstart from there. The terminal server idea did it. Now all I have to do is create a script for multiple simultaneous installations.
glad to be of help
good luck.

lupit mo talaga master. :thumbsupsmiley:
kinakalawang na din
@cruesomeAny documentations on creating a kickstart server with out the floppy boot. I have a kickstart server on a rh 9 box but I have to use a floppy on the target server. It works for some DELL Pizza Boxes and HP DL Series, but I will be deploying it on an IBM Blade environment. Is there a way I can push the info into a ram drive from the server and let the Blade boot via PXE and proceed with the installation?
i think you wanted a diskless solution. take a look at the The Linux Terminal Server Project.
edit: ram drives, initram... you might also wanted to read the Linux From Scratch solution. i find it very educational and entertaining

oh man, this is what happened:
command: modprobe rtl8139
output: FATAL: Module rtl8139 not found
don't worry, your eth0 is up!!! driver is probably built into the kernel
command: ip link set eth0 up
output:
RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted
guess you're lacking root privileges
command: ip l l
output: 1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:1e:90:e8:37:53 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
your network adapter is working alright
thanks for the help sirs
i'm ready to give up
then try this again:
this assigns the ip address: ip addr add 10.161.1.120/16 brd + dev eth0 (replace with your IP address)
and the default gateway: ip route add default via 10.161.1.254 dev eth0 (replace with your gateway)
just to make sure things are in order: ip adrr list (sample output below)
1: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:11:95:c0:c9:9d brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 10.161.1.120/16 brd 10.161.255.255 scope global eth0
check these files as well:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0

i'm using MSProxy + dansguardian (opensource - dansguardian.org) to block sites deemed as online communities, violent, sexual content sites and of course restrict downloads. dansguardian is very dynamic, it's based on keywords so i do not have to maintain a long list of websites to block. you can register a very-nice-name.com with sexually explicit content and dansguardian can block it off automatically. and yes, manilatonight.com falls on the pit

hi sir! these are the output of the following commands
"lspci"
01:05.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
"uname -r"
2.6.24-19-generic
thanks for the continuing help sirs! :thumbsupsmiley: :mtc:
looks like you have a realtek 8139 based nic, fairly popular one. the driver comes default with linux called "rtl8139".
this command loads the driver: modprobe rtl8139
this brings up the interface: ip link set eth0 up
this assigns the ip address: ip addr add 10.161.1.120/16 brd + dev eth0 (replace with your IP address)
and the default gateway: ip route add default via 10.161.1.254 dev eth0 (replace with your gateway)
just to make sure things are in order: ip adrr list (sample output below)
1: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:11:95:c0:c9:9d brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 10.161.1.120/16 brd 10.161.255.255 scope global eth0
let us know if that worked.

cruesome ...kindly reocmmend a good book for RHEL thanks
lomex, i'm not really a rhel fan, or rh/fedora for that matter. I find books from Prentice Hall and O'Riley publishing a lot more detailed compaired to other published materials.
i don't remember buying distro specific books, i usually read materials specific to the topics (tcp/ip, perl, etc) tldp.org is still the best source for linux docs imho.

its been well-known that viruses/trojans attach themselves to IMs specially Yahoo! Messenger ...
they're the type that suddenly send out messages in foreign languages (ie thai or vietnamese) ...
some have already un-installed the YM app and re-installed it again ...
but it keeps on coming back ...
if you have previously been affected, have you been able to remove them ? how ?
recently, my officemate was affected with such ...
i informed him and even our officemates ...
much to my dismay, he was outright mad at me telling what i did was "below the belt and uncalled for"
isnt it right to let others also to be aware ?
** deep heavy sigh**
tsk tsk I.T. always gets the blame. for the same reason external IMs are banned on our enterprise network.
anyways, few weeks back, my aunt's pc/ym behaved exactly the same way as you described. i ran symantec's AV, the latest of course, and found nothing. spybot s&d, a few glitches were corrected, the ym issue stayed. a-squared free, same results as spybot's. read about "Trojan Remover" (not free) and hit my bittorent client, which did pretty well. you might want to try it.
i personally hates the official ym client :-/

maybe you're on to something sir. do you have an idea where to get the drivers?
i mean the proper drivers on the cd that came with the board are for the windows OS, not linux
so i have to get a tarball of the driver right?
thanks so much for the help guys, will post an update again :mtc:
you'll rarely need to download and recompile network drivers, chances are you (or the distro) already have them installed (/lib/modules/<kernel version>). post your "lspci" and "uname -r" output to give us more info.
or.... it's also possible that the drivers are loaded and the interface is not activated, please post output from "ip l l" --> india papa space lima space lima
btw, my replies are non-distro specific

hi guys! baka may makatulong, walang internet yung isa naming ubuntu PC (hardy heron, 8.04)
AMD dual core with onboard LAN. "loopback interface" ang nakalagay sa network interface
ayaw mag eth0. nagpost nako sa ubuntu forums inisnab lang hehe
dito naman siguro hindi
help would be much appreciated, TIA
make sure the correct driver of the "onboard lan" is loaded. its probable that ubunto do not support your lan out of the box, check the board manual and load the correct driver.

I just finished watching a little recent shows by two of the bands i listened to when i was in grade school (the eighties): Rolling Stone's Shine A Light and REO Speedwagon Live In The Heartland DVDs (thanks to the seeders). Find it amusing watching grand dads strutting on the stage
