  1. well its aint blue, rather, its black..... with the message windows protection error on top, next line stating restart your computer then a long beep.

happened twice last week, then recently, hindi na, i did a fullsystem scan sing norton and the latest virus patch, no viruses found.  i defrag and scandisk once a month.  last reformat of the machine waas january second week where i reformatted and reinstalled everything. (i still cant figure out what the hell is wrong with my system cause i cant install winXP!)

Why can't you install WinXP? It crashes even while installing? That means your problem's being caused by hardware errors! Maybe the memory needs checking...try downloading memory checkers from the net...run them and after an overnight run, you should know if your memory's faulty... :headsetsmiley:

  2. help naman po,i think my pc is infected by spyware, everytime i try to access the yahoo website it would automatically divert me to anothe web page n search engine.but if i try to access other websites like mtc and friendster it works perfectly fine.had this trouble b4 and i reboot my pc,super badtrip bec lahat ng settings ng pc ko i-erase ko.i have the adware software and it seems that i cant do anything about my problem.i would be gratefull if u guys could help me on this problem.tnx

Yup! A certified browser hijack if ever I saw one...wait...in this case, if ever I heard of one...whatever :P Anyways, what anti-adware product are you using? If you're using Lavasoft's AdAware, I doubt if it can remove such... I recommend using Giant AntiSpyware...download it using the link I posted somewhere here...

Thanks guys. Anyway, i'm currently using an MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo. Anybody here know if it supports 160GB HDDs? I tried checking the MSI website but it doesn't say anything about that.

Nah! Don't mind my previous inquiry...from what I've read, your motherboard is not as archaic as I thought before...it SHOULD support that HD... Can anyone confirm this? Just really cautious about these things...

  3. Actually bibili pa lang ako and yes, Seagate is the brand I prefer.

I'm using a triple boot configuration now (Win98, WinXP, & RHLinux9) so I'd probably do the same when I get the 160GB HDD. What's troubling me is yun nga, yung large disk limitation. Kelangan ko pa rin kasi yung Win98 coz some of my old hardware and applications only work in Win98. I know that in WinXP, it will be solved by installing the SP. Kaya lang pirated ang copy ko. Tapos sa 98 nmn i'm quite worried na baka nga hindi ko mautilize yung full capacity. If anyone can verify and have tried na possible yung solution ko to partition it, I guesss I'd be okay. Thanks.

Theoretically, that is a possible solution...I am more worried about your motherboard's BIOS...is your motherboard capable of recognizing the ENTIRE 160 GB...I had this issue once where I can only access the first 9 GB or so of my harddisk since it can't recognize the access method of my new HD...anyway, I may just be getting too paranoid... :P Also, if you're thinking of upgrading to Windows XP SP2, don't be afraid...just search for my keygen somewhere in this forum...it generates completely unique keys for Windows and can't get blacklisted...theoretically... :P (Hmm...seems like "theoretically" is my favorite word for today... :D )... :headsetsmiley:

  4. Thanks bro! I dont think the file is corrupted cause I can open those files sa PC using acrobat reader.  The problem with the manual to this software is THAT ITS NOT THERE!!!  :upside:  I'm pretty sure I have downloaded an ebook before (da vinci code) and viewed it using this viewer but i forgot the file format of that e-book.

So i guess it all boils down to what file format does MobiReader for P800 supports?

According to a website I browsed regarding ebook formats, the MobiReader has its own format it opens. Maybe, the Da Vinci Code ebook you had was already in this format? (On a personal side note, the Da Vinci Code is a very good read! If you like it, please read the prequel: Angels and Demons also by Dan Brown...I have e-books of both in PDF format...it strengthened my faith! :P )

  5. hey guys, whats a "windows protection error"

    im running a win 98 machine, duron 1Ghz, 384 MB RAM (1 bank 256 + 1 bank 128) 32 MB GeFOrce2 video....

every time i access the ragnarok top up page, the screen spits out that messages, tels me to press any key to reboot. i press the enter key (i coudnt find the "any" key) and the PC beeps continuously until i press the reset button.

what gives?  ngayon lang nangyari ito

It's oftentimes called a BSOD or Blue Screen of Death since, typically, you can't do anything else but restart the damned pc... :P My question/s is/are has this only happened recently? If so, it MAY be a virus... it may also be a configuration change that you did to your machine recently. Also, has your machine been running without a reformat for a long time? It may be that there's also too much junk dll's in your machine due to constant installations and un-installations. A good format may be in order... :headsetsmiley:

  6. Thanks!

I got all the drivers I need from their PanAm website.

I also noted this:  Flash BIOS v1.16-  Launch this Windows flashable BIOS from within the Windows operating system to flash the BIOS to version 1.16.

What is this flash bios? If ever I launch this, is this reversible?

The BIOS is the software that makes your laptop able to boot-up and see the CPU, harddrive, diskdrive, etc. BEFORE the operating system actually launches. :goatee: If you're not a power-user and currently not experiencing any MAJOR problems with your laptop as of right now, I would advise AGAINST flashing your BIOS. :) It is reversible in some instances but if you experience a power failure WHILE flashing your BIOS, your laptop WILL NOT BOOT-UP AGAIN. (at least if it doesn't have a BIOS flash recovery feature) You have been warned... :headsetsmiley:

Can anyone fix this? Our monitor's color is green lately. I haven't done anything to the monitor like the drivers, etc., why should I do the revert it back to the original color?

    Windows 98, Intel Celeron here!

Is it an old monitor? If it is, it may be in need of maintenance although I myself would buy a new monitor since that would signal that it's nearing the end of its useful life. :( It is in no way connected to your other hardware/software (unless the monitor cable got loose or something :P ).

i have this problem in my pc... i'm using my win98se but every time i write the autoexec.bat adn restart my pc... the file autoexec.bat was not in the drive...  parating nawawala yung autoexec.bat kapag nirestart yung pc after makagawa ng batch file...  ano sa tingin nyo?

Hmmm...interesting...maybe your hard drive has a read-only security feature just like the UST Faculty of Engineering's computers...every time I try changing something, it all goes away after I reboot the computer! Amazing isn't it? Anyway, it may also be that there's a virus (yeah right, blame the virus... :P ) in your computer. You may just have to investigate this further. (I for one, would like to get my hands on the software on the Faculty of Engineering's harddrives...it would be very useful against some people who keep changing my settings here at the cyber cafe I'm surfing at... ) :headsetsmiley:

  7. I agree with this. Problem is even if I have an orig xp pro from my other laptop, where can I get the appropriate drivers for the travelmate? The drivers they provided is in a system cd which can be used in conjunction with the recovery cd only.

You can USUALLY download them from the manufacturer's website, in this case, try Acer's website. :boo: Also, what drivers are you pertaining to? The drivers for the mouse thingee at the lower center of your laptop? :P Can't that be detected by Windows XP? Maybe you're pertaining to the useful utilities included like the internet button or something? Anyway, try downloading the drivers needed from the internet. That's what I usually do in cases like these. :hypocritesmiley: Take care of your laptop!!!!

  8. can I format my travelmate 2000 using NTFS? Acer only provided 3 sets of CD for recovery.  THey did not included a separate CD Driver.

You CAN format it using NTFS BUT I doubt if you can use your recovery cds since it reformats the drive to the default setting which (i guess :P ) is FAT32. I personally just throw away those CDs especially if they're proprietary since they install all sorts of BLOATWARE on your PC that you just may not use!

  9. i try to the command "fdisk /mbr" but it turned out like Invalid media type... damn i need to recover the files... any help?

It would seem as if your hard drives already busted, you should bring it to a friend's house and try accessing it there. If it still doesn't work, it needs servicing already...

Almost on the same note... My hardisk has beem formatted using NTFS now I reverted it back to FAT32, yesterday for some reason I had to reformat it again (FAT32) but formatting won't continue after 72%.  Do I call PC express for a new hardisk now or is there a light at the end of the tunnel  :P ?

There's may be bad sector at that part of the drive which is why the format command is taking longer at that part. It can't read the sector and is trying to make sure if it should be marked as BAD or not.

P.S. sorry for the slow replies but I'm working on our thesis and can't log-in too frequently... :P

  10. i'm using win98se. problem is i can't backup d data... cause i cant see the harddisk in d PC. i tried to slave it in my PC but its d same result i cant see ung harddisk... i cant run in safemode... missing operation system... hehehe pano kaya yun?

Sabi ko na Win98 eh! (Teka  , universal language translator on! ) I do hope that virus, if ever it is a virus, hasn't deleted your entire hard drive yet...the only thing you can do for a Win9x machine in that situation is to boot using a bootable floppy and try to see if your hard drive/s isn't empty already... hopefully, you can still re-install your OS without deleting your other files IF the "virus" (we'll call it a virus for now :P ) hasn't deleted anything...

  11. i have a harddisk problem... this morning i tried to scan this PC using mcafee... it just hanged and when i restart the PC i cant run the windows. the PC detected the harddisk but i cant see it in windows.. parang di makita yung drive... i think its a VIRUS anyone encountered similar problem?

Is that a Windows 9x/ME machine? That happened to me once...I didn't bother to troubleshoot it though since I was a "see a problem just format" type of guy when I last saw that. :P Anyway, were you connected to the internet when you were scanning the PC or not? If not, it may just be a mcafee (or even **gasp** WINDOWS!!! :boo: ) related bug/glitch! :P Try booting into safe mode and redetecting all the PNP devices...that should at least give you an idea if it's still salvage-able or not...

P.S. hmmm...come to think of it, I should post a thread about my latest learning project: a bootable Windows XP/2003 CD!!! :boo: That way, you could troubleshoot these stupid problems (M$'s fault) and determine FOR SURE if it was a virus or just to BACK-UP your data before you reformat!!! :goatee:

  12. i am having problems with my pc. my os is win xp an i am using mozcom netrocket as my isp. whenever i log in to my company's website, a "RUN TIME ERROR" occurs and there is a question "DO YOU WISH TO DE-BUG".? what do i do with this kind of problem? the thing is, i could not do my work because of this problem. i do my work at home and bacause of this, lumalabas pa ako ng bahay para mag internet. any computer wiz here?

Although I'm not a computer whiz, :P I'll try to help... firstly, is IE the one displaying the error? If it is...use another browser... :P if it's an application you use, try uninstalling the application and reinstalling it. THAT usually solves MOST of the problems of an app...personally, I'll reformat the computer, install XP SP2, install my NOD32 Antivirus, Agnitum Antispyware and anything else that happens to be needed and that does the trick...but of course not every user can do that every time he/she sees something bad...just try what I mentioned above and post here if there are any more problems...

Hey guys i need help.  I have this crazy stalker who's been bugging me and my girl thru email.  It seems that this bitch knows a lot about my daily activities.  I'm not sure if its just me, but most of the info that she has could be found on my harddrive.  I maybe just paranoid but is there a way for someone to hack thru the net into my pc and perhaps gather information from there?  Could spyware programs do this?  If so, would antispyware do the trick?

Also, this bitch has been contacting my girl thru email.  Would you guys be able to help me as to how to track down at least the location (region) from where her email is being sent? All I have right now is her Email address.  Please help :(  This evil is trying to ruin my life... any help would be appreciated :(  :(  :(

I already answered your private message but I didn't know the extent by which she may have broken into your system. Regarding your first question, yes there are ways by which an attacker can get into your pc and steal your data :hypocritesmiley: ...secondly, yes spyware programs can do that but they are mainly from companies just trying to take your personal information and NOT your day-to-day activities :boo: , third, if it is spyware, (damn! that's one nasty one! :P ) it MAY be removed by antispyware utilities...

On a personal note, one, I don't think it's spyware a trojan maybe...two, I believe you have either no firewall, have an outdated firewall, or just blindly pressed the Allow option whenever you see your firewall trying to notify you of something and three, if it is a trojan, you may have no antivirus protection, have an outdated virus protection or it's just that your antivirus has already been compromised (or maybe, your antivirus IS the hacker...nah WAY TOO PARANOID of me... :P )...please read my PM regarding other points I wish you to focus your attention on...thank you and have a good day... :headsetsmiley:

  13. Panu ba maresolve pag me IRQ conflict?

What OS are you using? (I guess it's a Win9X/ME... ) If it is a Win9X/ME machine, please go inside your BIOS and turn on Plug and Play detection on the BIOS. Afterwhich, you could go to the device manager and uncheck the configure device automatically on the offending device. Unfortunately, this oftentimes makes Windows unstable, in my experience. Another option would be to remove the device and reboot so that Windows will, HOPEFULLY, redetect the device, reinstall the driver, and assign a different IRQ number for it. :headsetsmiley: As a follow-up question, what devices are conflicting in your machine?

  14. hi! tanong ko lang kung alam nyo yung software na ginagamit para makagawa ng karaoke songs...i have a premier 98 HDT karaoke na yung CD can fit 5000 songs...paano kaya nagagawa ito and paano napagkasya sa isang CD (definitely not DVD)...i saw some karaoke software sa net, pero they create big sized karaoke files...software for MIDI-CD or CD+G kaya?...i was told na marami raw sa raon nagbebenta ng karaoke CD? kaso i would like to create my own list and background too...ano kaya'ng software ginagamit ng mga nagbebenta sa raon? please patulong naman...

    thanks in advance!

According to a friend of mine, the music in these karaoke have the songs in MIDI format. This is how a lot of songs can fit in just a single CD. Unfortunately, as of this time I don't know of any software that can create such...I'll try searching for it later...wait I have a likely candidate here: :P

  15.

    deym updates...now i need a new serial!

guys! anybody got a serial for DAP ver. 7.4.0.1? will highly appreciate the help! thanks!

I don't know if there is a serial for this out there since this program "calls home" and verifies the serial with the server. A patch would be the most likely thing out there which can ignore the 30 day trial limit.

Gud pm everyone!!! Can u please refer me to a computer shop that repairs laptops. my problem is that the laptop screen keeps on flickering. i have this problem for a long time already but after several minutes after starting up it would return to normal. but starting this week it would not stop flickering. can i ask also how much would it cost me? thanks a million! :)

The cost would depend on the specific problem with your laptop. It may be the screen, a faulty driver, a faulty video card, etc. :goatee: As for shops that repair laptops, can't you bring it to the shop where you bought it? You could also try going to favorite computer shop districts out here like Gilmore and SM North's Cyberzone. :D Sorry for the lack of further information regarding repair shops!

he he.. yeah.. your admin can limit/restrict your net access.  He can restrict the use of Kazaa, P2P programs or sharing programs, webcam access and downloading large files; and of course all websites that are not related to work.  Most universities and some private corporations that i know have these firewall and restrictions enforced. There is no workaround that I know of that would work since high bandwidth access would automatically raise a flag and would alert the admin on what you're doing... lol. good luck though, maybe the sysad is not always looking :P

Yup...I usually work around this by installing a bot (or even several) on another machine/s and ordering it to download from there :D ...I then transfer the files to a USB hard drive (not through the network...you can be detected  ) and relocate/deactivate/leave the bot. Most admins can't keep up with this since they also have other things to do than catch someone  . Of course, I do this in our school and you can't expect security to be that high  . Lucky for me also that the admin has not yet discovered how to make the USB port read only :) ...but even if he did, I could work around that as well  ...one SHOULD ALWAYS be thinking one step ahead of your opponent... :P

yup, can't be resolved by ad aware and spybot. what flashlight malware does is it redirects you to its site ang after 10 minutes or so, it disables your internet connection. i tried deleting it on the registry in safe mode but when you refresh, it's on the registry again.

my problem now is that the add/remove programs panel is distorted. the icons are not there. there are no buttons. is there a way to add/repair the add remove programs?

    tia

As of this time, I have not discovered any means by which to recover those entries except formatting everything and reinstalling from scratch...(or just the part about reinstalling the apps) :P Although it could also be that the spyware only blocked/moved/renamed the registry keys that keep the Add/Remove Software information. Try BROWSING through your registry (don't touch anything...should not be done lightly...you have been warned... :P ) and see if the entries are still there...for Win9x machines go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

for Win2x/XP machines go to the same location or:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

if such an entry exists. I didn't memorize these locations and I can't vouch for the Win2k/XP locations since I'm surfing using a Win9X machine. :headsetsmiley: If the registry entries are still there, it may only be some adware/spyware messing with your control panel... :grr:

  16. Junk IE! Use Firefox para hindi na kayo gambalain ng mgha spyware

use also Spybot, Ad-Aware and HiJackTHis at the same time para tanggal lahat.

IE has more security holes than Spongebob Squarepants

Nakalimutan ko sa previous post ko 'to ah!

  17. sir and madam,

thanks sa advise, it doesn't apply to yahoo only even in other site, whenever I wanted to open a video file, "this URL has been blocked" appears, but if it is a picture or image galleries ok nman cya, must be a network thing.

Must be your system admin trying to lower bandwidth usage by blocking all video files from being downloaded... :P

  18. eto pa isa... yung browser ko (IE6) pag set mo sa options yung default home page n apply mo iba pa din yung nagiging default..  web--search how can i remove that?

Use spyware removal tools such as Ad-Aware, Giant AntiSpyware or HiJackThis! to give you control of your browser again. :D I personally recommend Giant AntiSpyware although it is quite tricky to find it now that Microsoft bought it. As a side note, please be informed that Giant's AntiSpyware is almost the same as Microsoft's AntiSpyware. Only the labeling changed... :P

  19. everytime I open a video file attachment like the ones being sent to yahoo group when I click the file, this shows up, "This URL has been blocked", please advise.

Did Yahoo! Messenger display the message or your internet browser? Can you provide further details like a screenshot or just a more detailed description of what appears? Personally I haven't encountered this yet so I can't diagnose this problem effectively without seeing it with my own eyes. :(

  20.

HELP! they refused my current avg network edition serial no.!

anybody out there got any? please...

It would seem as if it's a busy day for me...please note that it's not part of my recommended AV utilities...I'll just PM you regarding my findings...

thanks for your kind reply.  How about a PS1 emulator? or an Xbox or nintendo gamecube?  thanks again.

A good PS1 emulator that I know of is ePSXe from here. I don't know about other emulators but a good place to search for them is at NGEmu here.

  21. hi guys...i want to ask if its possible to download a program which lets me play playstation II games on my pc.  I have a dvd drive.  thanks in advance.

I am sorry to say that although the PS2 emulator is still currently under development :D , it would take a VERY powerful computer to emulate the emotion engine of the PS2 and also the performance of a PS2 :boo: . They can run PS2 games now but only at 1-5 frames per second and at a relatively decreased graphics quality  . Wait a few more years and maybe the PC's computing power may catch up with the PS2's (but wait a few years and the PS3 will be out anyway...) :P .

  22. ad aware and spybot search & destroy can't detect this malware. i also tried booting to safe mode to no avail. I still have to try hijack this. hope this works this time.

    thanks

That's one stubborn malware you have there xcalibr :boo: ...anyway, good luck with your malware hunt and hopefully, running HiJack This while in Safe Mode will solve your problems  ...just don't remove your antivirus start-up entries... :P

  23. has anyone encountered flashlight search malware? i tried deleting it on the registry but it keeps coming back. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Have you tried running BOTH Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy on that machine? If they're still unable to delete it you could try using HiJack This to remove the offending start-up entry from the registry and then try running Ad-Aware and Spybot. If you still can't remove it, boot to safe mode and remove it from there. I doubt if any other spyware/adware can survive a purge in safe mode. :headsetsmiley:

  24. tried it, bro.  result: "invalid security descriptor" in mah face!  :(

Is your current machine's name the same name that it had when you had access to the files? If not try renaming it to the previous name or else I doubt if you can access it. (I think... :P ) Try booting to safe mode and adjusting the permissions there...maybe that will help, other than that, I think it's like your previous problem. :headsetsmiley:
