  1. i have a problem..

i wanna burn a VCD image i made (cue/bin) to a VCD using nero but it wont let me coz the file size or the bin file is 900mb and wont fit to a standard cd

    how do I do this?

i encoded a Xvid avi file to MPEG then converted the MPEG-1 to Bin/Cue

    Pls Help

    thanks

Use a video editor to split your MPEG format file to manageable chunks then burn it to the CDs. :headsetsmiley:

Recently my PC has been randomly freezing, and I think my CDRW drive is causing all this, just curious, could it be?

I mean because of old age at mga 4 yrs na un cd writer ko..

    I have another drive naman pero I need them both;

Kasi pag nag buburn ako using that drive sa nero nag frefreeze ung pc

Is is possible na loose ung cables?

Kasi pina ayos ko na sa technician tas for how many days ok siya tas now ganun nanaman pls help

Random lockups ika nga, the pc LED lights up every how many minutes and you cant move the cursor and di rin pd emag CTRL+ALT+DEL

There are so many reasons as to why this is happening...it maybe loose cabling, failing power supply, failing drives, overheating components, etc. From my own personal experience, since you mentioned the LED lights lighting up for minutes, it may be your power supply failing. (especially the case if your PC's power supply is more than 4 years old as well and you have a "full rig"...). :headsetsmiley:

ang ginagawa ko pag ganyan, convert muna ako ng dat file to mpeg2 o AVI then use a video splitter and burn ng VCD.

about sa cd writter mo, four years is enough life time na siguro. it's time to replace na.  sa PC hardware we don't normally repair instead we replace.

Could also be the source of your problem...

ah so hinde pwede i split ung bin files?

un ba dapat i split ko?

You may end up damaging the bin files if you split that up manually. Try what I said above about splitting your mpeg2 file first using a video editor/clipper and then converting it to bin/cue. :headsetsmiley:

Since, you've tried re-installing, have you tried plugging it on another computer? If it's problematic there, it may be that your external HD's the cause for your problem. Actually, the enclosure is just a sort of tranceiver that takes input from the HD's IDE port and convert it for the USB. It just may be damaged in your case. (Some cases are extremely easy to damage...based on a friend's personal experience... :P ) :headsetsmiley:

Athlon xp 2000+, 512 MB memory, MSI -746f ultra mother-board w/ built in 6 USB 2.0 ports, running in Windows xp service pack 2.  Search ko na sa internet pero no effect; upgrade ng bios, tweaking sa bios parameters, last resort ko na nga, bumili na din ako ng USB card, still ganun pa din problema.

Ang nangyayari lagi ay nadedetect sya sa una..pero pag tumatagal, hindi nya madetect, error  :"Source file not found".

Motherboard issue kaya ito (compatibility issue)?????

I think your problem is more on a problem with your existing Windows XP installation. Try reinstalling your XP. :headsetsmiley:

  4. i have a problem just an hour ago i tried viewing some webpages and it says page cannot be displayed both in IE and firefox..

pero not all pages, ung iba lang.. pansin ko ung mga secure lang

any fix for this? i aint gonna format

nakakainis kasi eh ung ibang webpages ayaw

for instance, i can go to www.microsoft.com but cannot go to support.microsoft.com  :(

    thanks

If it only has problems with secure webpages, it may either be some form of malware or a corrupted file that is used for handling online encryption and the like. Since it is the same with both IE and Firefox, we could safely assume that the problem itself is either with the ISP or the underlying communication protocols on your machine. :headsetsmiley: Unfortunately, there is still insufficient data to ascertain what the problem is. <_< Can you tell us what happened BEFORE this came up? Did you shut down your computer? Restarted? Force reboot? Encountered a BSOD? or it just happened? If it's the last, there may be no other solution but to format your computer since it means your OS just tripped and damaged itself. :P

  5. This only delays the tracing time of the IP. Kahit Onion routing pa nga gamit pwede ma trace pano pa IP spoofing.  :D

I would have to agree with this one. It just "prolongs the agony" so to speak for the one trying to find your real ip address. The only real safe way to hack is to pop up into a relatively "safe" internet cafe and hack from there. As long as you can't be identified by anyone or associated to any "real" name in this realm, you're relatively safe. :hypocritesmiley:

<_< linux is open source and free to download and distribute over the internet...

  7. ganun b? so, why is there some CDs that are marked 800MB and 900MB? Is this just a marketing ploy or to use the rated capacity, you have do to something "special" or software to use this??

There are CDs that can contain up to 800 MB (I don't know about the 900MB ones...) but it requires a compatible CD burner in order for it to burn using a tighter track spacing. :headsetsmiley:

  8. I downloaded some video amv files from an MP4 player unto my computer, pero hinde maka play sa

Window Media Player- it said window can not open the file - .amv -    I am using window XP Pro, do I need to

install any codecs? Anybody please help, Thanks.

Try downloading the K-Lite Mega Codec from here. Windows Media Player may not have the necessary codecs for it to open the file. :headsetsmiley:

  9. hi linux experts! question po, can linux run the MS office package? if yes, how? i'd like to ditch that too (the MS office) but i have to work with other people so i'm stuck.

how i've wanted to escape mr. gates' greedy hands but everywhere i turn he's there, mocking me hehe :D  :mtc:

oh, and has anyone heard of the ubuntu OS? its linux based. i have a cd of that but i'm afraid to run it. is it any good?

Try using OpenOffice since it can open and save MS Office's file formats. Also, if you use PowerPoint, just copy the templates and import it into OpenOffice's Impress application as a template so you can have the backgrounds of PowerPoint without the PowerPoint application itself. :headsetsmiley:

He does tend to mock you everywhere you look but look further and you'll see alternative applications that work just as well or even better than those you're used to in Windows.

Ubuntu is one of the Linux distributions based on Debian. It's gaining popularity these days even though it uses GNome for its GUI due to it's "clear focus on the user and usability". There is also a branch using KDE which is named Kubuntu and I would recommend that one if you're new to Linux and migrating from Windows instead of the Ubuntu distro. B)

Btw, if you have the Live CD version of Ubuntu, you can try it out without any risk to your PC (or minimal risk...). Just pop the Live CD into the CDROM drive (if your PC supports booting from the CD...) and wait for it to load! :thumbsupsmiley:

  10. hello and gud-pm co-computer geeks....

just asking if pano mo ma-didisable yung automatic na pag-open the limeware sa pc, kasi evrytime i close it it opens automatically ulit e.... <_<

Nag-oopen automatically kapag clinose mo? Weird...

  11. Guys, tulong nmn. I have a problem unistalling a program sa Control Panel. At first, kinopya ko lng yung files from another PC (its a power management software para s laptop). When I ran it, I received an error and re-started the PC. When I tried to run the program, ayaw tlga kya I decided to delete n lng the files. When I checked the Control Panel, na-register pala sya s installed programs and when I tried to uninstall, nag-e-error message n sya. After some time, nakakuha ko ng installer nung power management program and when I tried to install it, ayaw kasi registered p din yung lumang program s Control Panel. Ndi ko tuloy ma-install yung bagong files. I tried to look sa registry kung saan sya registered pero ndi ko makita. Does anyone know kung saan nakalagay yung location ng mga programs n nkalagay s Add-Remove programs sa Control Panel?? Help n naman peeps.....  :(  :(  :(

It depends on the program. What's the name of the program you installed? Maybe some of our co-members here knows about it and can help with your problem. :headsetsmiley:

  12. Hehe .. that wouldn't be a big problem, just a lot of clicking on yes. And if its indeed the folders under document and settings, that would be a lot of clicking yes. The admin can always take control, even when deny permissions are present .. it just takes a lot of perseverance in having to acknowledge every permission change to files and folders.

Hopefully, the file/s or directory/s weren't made private (in other words...encrypted) by the user or else even if you do change the permissions you won't be able to access the files. :headsetsmiley:

  13. Yup, the folders are still there, but can't access. Me and my wife are administrator, and both of our old folders are "access denied".

    Any more suggestions, please. TY

Let me guess...you formatted your computer and said yes to the dialog when you assigned passwords that you would like to keep your documents private...

Ok I think you're problem is that you've enabled encrypting file systems on your data and by the looks of it you haven't saved your security key credentials.  Another problem is that you have backed up your "data files" only and reformatted your drive.  I'm sorry to tell you that it's almost impossible to recover your files due to loss of Encrypting File System (native to NTFS) keys.  However you may try to run this tool Advanced EFS Recovery and see if you can still recover your data.

    Best regards

I agree...it's next to impossible to recover your data...

  14. HELP!

I can no longer access my old XP (user) documents after i re-install my windows XP.  :grr:

pls. someone help me, i really need those documents.

    TY

What do you mean exactly when you say "can't access"? Are the files/folders still there but you get a notification that the files cannot be accessed or are the files/folders missing?

  15. My Linux install on my second computer is a SLAX HD Real Install (that means the uncompressed SlackWare Linux variant...) with a few things added or rather updated by myself. (I just love compiling new programs...the lines are more entertaining to watch than the standard Windows installation progress bar...) Anyway, everythings running quite nicely now as I've installed both Wine and Cedega for my Windows apps to work. Never experienced a problem (yet...) although KDE seems to go on a crash with a signal 11 or something everytime I log-off...not that it's a problem since it continues to shut down KDE Desktop after a few moments... :headsetsmiley:

  16. ok pala ang slax... ive read some of the testimonials sa site.. and ok daw ang slax pagdating sa live cd... :D

    im downloading it now..

    thanks again.. :D

The softwares installed on the Live CD depends on the maker of the said CD. RTFM so to speak...also, softwares for your Live CD can either be found on-site or compiled from source (again depending on your distro or CD... :) ). Good luck on Linux!!!

Now I have a question regarding Linux or rather ALSA in Linux...I downloaded the latest kernel source 2.6.13.2 and have already compiled and recompiled it a few times...about 8 times in the past 2 days I believe (for a Linux newbie such as myself, that's quite a nice number... )...now my question is, HOW DO I GET ALSA SUPPORT ON THIS THING?!?!?! I have already enabled the ALSA support as module, and again as built-into the kernel and have enabled and disabled this and that but all I get when I run the test application of Point2Play is that ALSA is either not supported or not configured properly on my BIOS!!! I already compiled version 2.6.12.2 earlier and I remember that I was successful in enabling ALSA support (or at least get it recognized by the P2P app...) but now the solution avoids me...can anyone help?

  17. Due to the BSA's future acts against cyber cafes use of pirated software, I would like to put a query here as to what Linux distro will be the most appropriate replacement for Windows in a cyber cafe environment. (Please don't state Windows application emulation problems and such. I'm just referring to the comfortability ratio that may be felt by an average person that will be using the terminals.) I'm thinking of replacing a cyber cafe near our house with Linux before it is raided and would like more input regarding the different distros and the ease of migration that each presents. (Besides, I already have both the latest versions of Cedega and Wine so games shouldn't present too big of a problem as of the moment...already tested some games and Cedega just amazes me... :P ) Thank you to those who respond in the future and your suggestions are appreciated... :headsetsmiley:

  18. I was able to download the latest cedga from bearshare... pero hindi yata installtion files ito.... archived file ng I386

copy to folder lang ba to sa linux?

The extension of the files you downloaded will tell you which type of Linux it installs to.

    .RPM -> RedHat, SUSE, Mandrake

.DEB -> Debian, Knoppix (HD installation)

.TGZ -> SlackWare, Slax (upon modification)

These are the only types I know of. I'm not too much into Linux yet so please forgive any mistakes and/or omissions that may have been committed. :hypocritesmiley:

  19. AH SO gets ko na.

ang CEDEGA is focused more on gaming ganun ba?

wine kasi has several limitations in terms of emulating windows programs...

    Simply put:

1.) CEDEGA is like Wine but is more focused on game emulation rather than the whole of windows application emulation.

2.) CEDEGA is not free like Wine.

    :headsetsmiley:

  20. so basically, what ur saying is hindi for network gaming ang LINUX... ??? :(  :(

Nope...it's just that many popular network/online games today are not compiled to run on Linux so you need a Windows emulator, such as WINE, to run some of them. (Please note that WINE is just an emulation software so your software may or may not run. :( ) If the games are Linux binaries, then you can run them quite well (even better :P ) in Linux than in Windows. :hypocritesmiley:

  21. Guy's I'm in to the network gaming business... As you all might now by now September 16 is D-Day for the crackdown on illegal softwares... Microsoft Windows specifically... I'm intent on formating my hard disks and installing Linux OS

I'm totally new with Linux and I'll be starting from scratch so  I have some questions questions before I do this...

    1. Is Linux compatible with the network and Internet gaming softwares like counterstrike, Ragnarok and the likes? If yes, What's your recommended Linux system for me to download?

    2. Is it easy to network?

    3. Based on some recommendations that I've read here for easy shifting from Windows OS to Linux I've decided to download Slackware and ARK Linux. which is better? Kung may ibang kayong recommends pls free... Basta compatible sa mga gaming softwares...

    4. The Linux installer files I'm downloading are in archived format ( ISO and GZ ) .. After I've finished downloading the files I plan to transfer it to a cd.. Can I boot install using the files I saved on the cd?

    5. If there's a question that I failed to ask and u think i should know pakisabi na rin...

and last... let me buirst out my anger.... :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  I wanna kick Bill Gates #@$$...

F()ck microsoft...

1.) Linux can't play Windows binaries natively. If you use a windows emulator such as WINE, SOME may run but not without some difficulties as well. (I'm thinking if some of us programmers here in MTC can join together and try to "skin" XP making it look like Linux so we can run these games but it wouldn't be acceptable to Linux... :P ...also not thinking of a simple skin as in theme but skin as in even the loading text of Linux coupled by the root login and the console...hehehe...dream on... )

2.) Depends on what distro you use.

    3.) I don't have any idea...

4.) If they were bootable they SHOULD boot.

5.) We all want to kick Bill Gates...

  22. problem with net send command

help please.  here at the office we are trying to use the command net send in ms dos propt.

problem ko why is it that there are some computers that we cannot send messages to.

same na ang workgroup namin; winxp ang gamit namin here.

    any info would be appreciated

What version of Windows XP are you using? If it's SP2, then it is likely that the Windows Messenger service has already been disabled in those machines which is why you cannot use netsend on them. It's a feature that was disabled due to a possibility that it can be used to transmit viruses (in short, security vulnerability...). If not, maybe your administrator/computer "owner" has manually disabled the Messenger service so that no one can annoy him/her while working on that pc (that's what I always do on a 2k/XP machine... :P ). The last probability is that a firewall blocked your netsend message. (not likely...) :hypocritesmiley:

  23. bro leviticus - i was trying to do that actually as I have before encountered a malevolent program that doesnt want to get uninstalled and keeps popping back in the system (got rid of the sucker though by going into safe mode and thrashing it to hell from there) but unfortunately when I try to go to safe mode now my pc restarts itself for some reason, i get a glimpse of a message thingie that I dont get to fully read coz it starts up so fast. nothing is wrong with the system except for this two things = media player problem and not being able to go to safe mode. any more ideas? I'm planning to get a new hard drive and doing a fresh install but I want to know what the problem is.

kwol yep, thats the third party application which I use to play my manga movies and series (change subtitles/change audio : capabilities eh) also, i tried upgrading it to WMP 10 already as listed on the post but to no avail. and yep, I am currently in the market to get a new hard drive and do a fresh intall, back up that old hard disk and format the hell out that WMP 9 bastich.

Try disabling the automatic restart upon system failure so you can diagnose what is causing your computer to reboot when going into safe-mode. You can also just reformat the entire thing which is much faster and "easier" to do rather than trying to find the source of your problem. However, if the cause of your problem is a virus/corrupted installer, you may find that the problem will appear after a full format has been completed. :headsetsmiley:
