  1. If management is the one calling the shots when it comes to players changes, why is Jong still coaching Ginebra? Dapat lumayas na siya kasi hindi na siya pinapankinggan, just like na ginawa ni Jawo. The only team I know that does not consult its coach was the then Red Bull kaya nag resign si Yeng Absentee Guiao. Ang pagkakaiba lang, wala na talaga pera ang Red Bull nuon kaya pinamimigay nila, in exchange for monetary consideration, yung mga star players ng team.

  4. ^^ This is turning into Cory Aquino's administration all over again.. Tsk tsk

Wag muna tayo maging Madam Auring!

  5. Dear Noy,

---and you're what? just one month in office... and your Kamag-anak and Kaibigan Inc. already has their dirty hands in the appointments? I thought you'd wait 100 days before you let that happen...

  6. another one of the numerous players not given the playing time by jong. se was a true bruiser and banger. swak na swak nga talaga sana chief.

  7. The kingdom is silent. Let the dust settle. Let the pain subside. Ginebra was one defensive stand or Eric Menk jump-hook away from staying in the hunt. After the euphoria from Jay-Jay Helterbrand's almost-game-winner in Game 5 subsided, the scenes thereafter have morphed into a kind of haze.

While four other teams contest the PBA Fiesta Conference crown, even before it looks ahead, Ginebra prepares to look inwards. Management will look at coaches. Coaches will look at players. Players will look at each other. All of them will ask the same thing, "Now what?"

Even Ginebra Head Coach Jong Uichico needs a moment to think about that. It's a simple question with no easy answers. Ginebra made several big moves during the Fiesta Conference (which in turn led to other smaller but not necessarily less important events within the team). One can't simply backtrack by pressing one button. One can't simply evaluate by looking at one person, even if some fans insist it's Uichico who's accountable.

"Just like me, the fans just want to win," Uichico, in an interview before Game 4 against Alaska, said. "Just like me, if we lose, I have to point the finger at someone. It's either me, the players or someone else who's to blame. Alangan naman they pinpoint their favorite players. I have nothing against them. They have the same intentions as I do and that's to win the game. They're just as frustrated as I am. They're die-hard Ginebra fans and all they want is to win."

Frustration is amplified by irony: Cyrus Baguio, who reportedly made unsportsmanlike gestures towards the Ginebra bench after Game 5, made the key defensive play of the night for Alaska. Maybe fans displeased with Uichico will vent their ire on Baguio instead.

Frustration is amplified by oddity: Mark Caguioa, 50% of The Fast and The Furious, had 0% participation in Game 5. Caguioa's numbers in the series, however, just like Ginebra's performance in the tournament, deserve a thorough look. Caguioa averaged 23 minutes in Game 1 and 2 but made only 5-of-20 total field goals. His minutes dropped to nine in Game 3 and just four in Game 4.

Frustration is amplified by uncertainty. I know we always say a PBA off-season will be exciting. But this particular off-season for Ginebra seems to carry a different significance. We wonder if new chapters in the Ginebra saga will be opened and old ones will be closed. And Ginebra will make only two types of moves: big or huge. After all, a team that had the moxie to make changes during the tournament will not be afraid to do the same when the league hibernates.

The uneasy truce ends. The chasm of progress, or an attempt to make progress, starts. With no games to play, all Ginebra has is time; time to answer questions that have piled up since the start of the season, time to match expectations with explanations, time to start the team's fight for the future. 8. Basta, our neighbors' sports program (and that includes basketball) leapt by hundred folds pero dito sa atin medyo stagnant. Other national teams have improved a lot (well, they also have those tall players to rely on), the Philippines, with all the political savored programs, ganun pa rin. Its not that we have moved backward, its just that our neighbors have sports programs sponsored by politics-free people. I have watched Philippines vs. Lebanon last night and watched the fighting Philippine contingent slug it out with the Middle Eastern team kaya lang may laki at, to top it all, may bilis and great teammanship ang Lebanon talaga. Sayang ang pagod at pagsisisikap ng SG. They have the heart, they have the motivation with bossing MP and nice coach in Toroman, BUT still the factors of a great basketball team is still not there.

Nope, its not just for the last 2 minutes, I have observed this on whole games of PBA

  10. Mga Kabarangay, I watched the video kagabi from youtube. almost 5 seconds na pala si simpson sa paint area nung pinasahan sya ni devance, dapat tinawagan nila ng tres sa ilalim un.. tsk tsk tsk anyway.. wala lang

I also observed that! Tumahimik na lang ako. By the way, the PBA is sooo lenient sa 3 second violations. Just observe, lahat ng laro, wala or bihira ang tawag ng 3 second violations. The commissioner should look into this oversight.

  11. I'm a true blue Ginebra fan but I'm happy that they lost the series to Alaska even if they win they won't be able to survive against TNT.

You are right, Richmond. Am not thinking negatively pero thats the reality.

  13. It was a heart-breaking loss. The rally started when Ginebra was down by four in the last minute. Then this was this accidental follow-up by an Alaska cager (kita lang yung kamay, maitim, I assume it was Devance) sa basket ng Ginebra. Then sa throw in, na intercept in Jay then tumira ng tres, pasok! In the ensuing play ang ganda ng defense until nakalimutan ng Ginebra yung import ng Alaska mismo sa ilalim ng Alaska basket. Pasok! Then time out. Throw-in. Kaso, umikot si Menk, natapik ni Baguio and the rest is history.

Now that Ginebra is out na. Sana..............................

  14. Not really pessimistic............its reality. We really dont have a chance at Asian crack. I have stopped dreaming. Top 3? Well, we should be the champions kasi basketball is, unofficially, our national sport! Yes, I agree, Toroman is doing is best but Pinoys have limitations. Maski isabak mo best of PBA, not a chance maging champion.
