  1. I'm 45 years old and have been taking a combination of Lipitor 10mg (Atorvastatin) & Concor 5mg (Bisoprolo fumarate) for the past 8 years now and I am able to maintain my BP in the normal levels. Liver test along with other monitoring tests done every 6-8 months show the results are within normal ranges. I try to do my daily 30 min cardio exercise whenever I can but not as frequently as required. I go to my doctor for my monthly BP checkups and prescription for the drugs. I have been told that these medication are to be taken for life.

Doc, my question is can I stop taking these medicaton right away and just watch my diet and do regular exercise?

hypertension is part environmental part genetic. check the DASH diet on the net as that is the only scientifically proven diet to reduce BP levels in a randomized controlled trial. DASH diet plus 30 mins aerobic exercise (yung pinapawisan at tumataas ang heart rate) 4 to 6 times a week reduces BP levels even more.

  2. Thanks. I am 5'9" but weights around 215lbs. I read somewhere that the ideal weight for my height is around 170lbs? I have not really received much feedback but some people have told me that I snore and loudly at times.

yeah 170 lbs is your ideal weight... you'd be okay if you could trim it down to around 190, obesity and obstructive sleep apnea all contribute to a weaker immune system.

  3. Need advise. For the past few years, I have noticed that episodes of cold and cough will often last for weeks sometimes more than a month. Sometimes, my relatives from the same house will show the same symptoms but they will recover only in days and mine lasts a lot longer. I have had mild asthma since childhood but I am not sure if this is related. I am also overweight. Could there be something wrong with my immune system? Any advise? TIA!

episodic cough and colds related to weather changes, dust, etc on the background of childhood asthma may be symptoms of allergic rhinitis. there are also some cough-variant type of asthmas which may present in adulthood. how overweight are you by the way? do you snore a lot?

  4. i'd just like to throw my voice against self-medication. dapat consult your doctor first bago try anything; hindi pagka 'if symptoms persist.'

yes. i agree. and also consult before stopping any medication you are on

are you taking any medications for weight loss etc? minsan pude mag cause ng joint pains din yun...

  6. well, i consulted a physician and instructed me to have a CBC but unfortunately i didnt, pinabalik ako ng 6am in the the following morning to have a CBC and until now hindi pa ako nakakakuha ng CBC because nagduduty ako ng gabi. she, the doctor prescribed me a pain reliever to somehow lessen the pain. is this concerned with uric acid? ive been eating peanuts, mushrooms and crabs and shrimps, monggo and togue, tokwa (syempre masarap po kase), then the following day, masakit na yung tuhod at paa ko. im a bit concerned with the pain kse active ako sa exercise, every tuesday and thursday of the week is athletic day so we have to get out of the office and take a jog or play basketball, so after the activity i feel pain on those areas that i had said..

how old are you? better to check your uric acid levels before ascribing all your pains to gout.

  7. considered BIPOLAR DISORDER ba kung ung tao is nagiging mabait at a certain period of time, then biglang iinit ang ulo

at magagalit? minsan ung galit na un may kasama pang tremors. hahaha

and i think, pag nagwawala siya, im thinking of putting rin conduct disorder dahil

at minsan nangbabato ng mga gamit..

kasi im not yet sure of may report about sa case ng patient ko sa mental since bago palang

    aq and ojt ko. :(

    help :(

sounds right but you have to make sure that your patient has been having symptoms for the past 6 months na... baka di pa siya pasok sa criteria ng DSM-IV for bipolar disorder...

    nurse ka ngayon sa mental?

  8. Royce

Correction lang - Royce is from Japan, may outlet lang sa Singapore (and Hong Kong, i think). :)

for me... Royce as well... champagne flavor na chocolate medallions :)

kung sa locally available... masarap yung french truffles... they have a stall in MOA and Glorietta... mahal lang

for cheap thrills... Big Bang! :)

  9. what is chronic lymphocytic leukemia?

simplest answer... it's a type of leukemia where ang dominant cells are lymphocytes... different types kasi will have different treatments and prognosis... usually pag mga CLL sa mga older population yan compared sa acute leukemia, signs and symptoms of all the leukemias are similar - weakness, pallor, bone pains, easy bruisability, prone to infections... chemotherapy pa din ang treatment...

  10. what causes it? what are its treatment?

hmmm... no one really know what 'causes' cancer... but if you have a relative with the disease, there is a higher chance you may develop it as well. some hematologic malignancies or cancers of the blood have also been related with exposure to some chemicals...

treatment usually involves chemotherapy which will depend on the exact type of lymphoma/lymphoproliferative malignancy a person has. look for a hematologist-oncologist. they can better answer your questions and explain to you what steps to take to treat the disease.

  11. the visa go world olympic commercials are some of the best i've seen. i'm placing them right up there with my favorite apple '1984' commercial and the nike heaven vs hell soccer commercial.

check out the clio awards website for more great ad campaigns

  12. what is lymphoproliferative malignancy?

lymphoma and lymphoproliferative malignancy are abnormal growths of lymphocyte producing cells in the body.

best doctor to go to would be a hematologist-oncologist to confirm the diagnosis first and then give adequate treatment.

upon check up sa doktor, sabi me cataract daw sya and also kung bakit daw

sumasakit yung mata nya is dahilan sa namamaga daw yung retina nya.

so binigyan sya ng gamot para matanggal yung maga nung retina nya which

kapag hindi daw magagamot tuloy tuloy daw lalabo mata nya. :(

negatives (printing press) which i think he's been doing it for almost 30 yrs

in addition to whiteshadow's reply, ask your ophthalmologist kung hindi glaucoma ang cause ng redness and pressure in your dad's eye, that condition kasi can lead to permanent blindness kung di naagapan. the cataract could be contributing din to increased pressure in his eye

  14. longer to heal... does that mean that it'll heal by itself? no need for operation?

its been 6-7weeks already since the accident, but there is still small bump on my outer ankle. i can walk properly now without pain and i can stretch it any direction with very minimal pain. what's weird is that there's this funny feeling whenever i'm stretching/rotating my ankle (usual stretching routine for ankles - clockwise and counter clockwise with your toes on the ground and your heel suspended in the air).

thanks for your reply dude! i appreciate it!

yup, it'll probably heal by itself. though if you feel any instability on it when you play, especially if you play competitively/semi-competitively, you should really get the opinion of a sports medicine specialist. the small bump is most probably part of the healing tendon...

  15. if you stick with the blue chips that regularly pay dividends, yes. of course, you also need to factor in inflation rate and the time value of money.

again, it will depend on your personal goals - are you willing to wait for 10-15 years for pay-offs rather than cash in on the fluctuations on the short term? will it be worth the wait? different strokes for different folks. :)

you know... i never did understand all this stuff in the stock market... still seems to me like betting on horse races...
