  1. Yes, I hope the SBP brain trust realizes that Chot, Yeng, Tim, Norman or whichever PBA coach does not hold a candle to Tab in terms of coaching in the international game. Tab has a mastery of the nuances of the international game.

ADMU has talented players but it's the coach that is really the main advantage of ADMU, chief. In my opinion, if Tab was the coach, we'd still lose to Srbija but we will lose by a much smaller margin. Maybe 20 to 25. We also would have upset Italia had Tab been the coach.

i couldn't agree more to what you've written chief. this is where we separate coach tab from the rest of the pba coaches, i.e., the international game. i just cannot comprehend why the brain trust of sbp still has not made any move to appoint coach tab to take over the men's basketball team. you might have some insights on this chief. SBP MALAPIT LANG ANG KATIPUNAN! :D

  2. I concede the UAAP title to Ateneo this year. I think it's time for Tab to take over. If Chot interferes again, the SBP should just tell him to shut his mouth. Puro daldal lang siya.

i agree chief...tab should be tapped the soonest so he can instill the system and mold the team into fighting form. i cannot think of any other coach who can take over coach yeng. coach rajko is now with indonesia.

as to ateneo, not yet my friend. we have a big target at our back. UP with ricci, kobe and juan is strong. so is your archers. but this is another discussion in the uaap thread.

SBP GISING NA. SABIHAN NYO NA SI TAB BALDWIN. nasa katipunan lang sya nakatambay :D :D :D

  3. A few days ago, Ateneo had a practice game with NLEX, which was playing with their Governor's Cup import. NLEX lost by 30 pts. To a college team.

    Tab's system>>>>>>>>>>Yeng's system.

ateneo even beat the adelaide 36ers...the same australian team that beat the gilas national men's team in the 2nd game of their 2-game tuneup series. nice job coach tab.

  4. I observed that Gilas played PBA basketball. No passing. Just one on one plays. I don't blame them due to the length and quickness of the Serbians which made it difficult to pass the ball. The Serbs played the passing lanes brilliantly. Yeng had no counter to this. I am pretty sure Tab or Toroman would have found out a counter to the tight man to man defense of the Serbs.

Kiefer Ravena sucked again in this game. I have no idea why Yeng kept him in the game when he made moronic back to back turnovers of the same nature, dribbling through traffic and losing the ball which led to two fast break layups by the Serbs. Is it because Kiefer is Yeng's boy at NLEX?

There is a classification round so I hope we beat Angola and do well in the classification round which will determine the best Asian team in the tournament which is the basis for an Olympic slot. Of course, this is assuming China or any Asian team doesn't go beyond the first round.

you noticed that, too chief? daming dribble ng gilas while serbs were more on passing. may mga back passes...and fancy passes pa. and those 3 point shots... damn!!! they were razor sharp zeroing in on those orange iron rings. yeng couldn't adjust because he seemed lost...coach tab? well, we know what he can do under such circumstance. problem with the players we have is that they are not accustomed to international basketball. they don't have the benefit of playing against other international teams. 3 conferences in 1 year, they play against each other. sila-sila lang. it's just like playing basketball in the backyard. the program should be overhauled. haven't our basketball bosses learned their lesson yet?

  5. Chief, you forgot Kobe. Speaking of Bolick and CJ Perez, I really didn't know them until I saw them play. CJ Perez should be included. CJ Perez playing the point was a revelation. It means that our point guards should be 6'3 and above. Perez was fearless in driving in the lane. Parks could be another option for point guard. The Kraken should be another mainstay in the next FIBA-Asia. I am pretty sure we can beat China and Iran. SBP should get another naturalized player and must do everything to make Jordan Clarkson play. If we had Clarkson, we'd probably beat Italia.

Developing the young guns like Kai, Kobe, Ricci, AJ, etc. and mixing them up with Parks, Bolick, Perez and Fajardo will makes us competitive in the FIBA-Worlds. Even if the aforementioned players turn pro, SBP should stay with them, pretty much like what Espana did with their team at the turn of the century.

oh yes!!! kobe paras...a 6'7" athletic wing player. i'd like to see remy martin included in the next gilas pool also. sbp should do everything to have clarkson in the lineup. that guy's a legit nba player. and as for the naturalized player, i think this 2019 fiba world may be andray's last hurrah. cj, bolick, rayray would be good compliments to the likes of soto, edu, ildefonso, rivero and paras. the kraken will be around 31-32 in 4 years? pwede pa yan. plus a really good naturalized player. chris mccullough of smb or brownlee? can you imagine what coach tab can do with these players at his disposal? chot reyes wag ka nang makialam ha?! pampagulo ka lang.
  6. Whoever complained about the training should have been kicked out or maybe it was just Chot who said that to ingratiate himself with the SBP. Toroman and Tab are better than Chot in terms of international coaching. Yeng tried but it is apparent after the Italy game that his coaching won't cut it in the international arena.

i'll say it again chief. as of this writing, tab baldwin is the most competent/qualified to coach the national basketball team. let him take over the gilas cadets/batang gilas with 2023 as the main goal. kai soto, thirdy ravena, aj edu, carl tamayo, dave ildefonso, juan gomez de liano, ricci rivero plus maybe talented pba rookies like cj perez, bolick and rayray parks can be included in the pool. the most important thing is getting the right naturalized player. if tab will be picked to coach gilas, i'm sure he knows who to pick.

  7. 3 conference format pa haha. Mas mahalaga daw kasi yung PBA kesa World cup at karangalan ng bansa. Ampuchang preparation time yan dinaig pa yung US Team eh akala mo Generation of Miracles yung mga player ng Gilas 😂

exactly...pili dito, pili doon...training ng 2 months at sabak sa fiba world. nadisgrasya!!! can't the pba sacrifice its schedule for the sake of the country? alam naman ng pba ang mga schedule ng fiba asia, fiba world, asian games. anak ng p#@*!? pag ganyan ang programa natin hanggang sea games lang tayo maghahari. at kung hindi tayo mag-iingat baka maungusan tayo ng singapore o kaya indonesia.

  8. Will Tab be handling the team for the 2023 FIBA Worlds?

as far as i know it's the gilas cadets that he's handling chief...but if coach tab is tasked to handle the 2023 team as well, then that surely is welcome news.

come to think of it, dalawa pala ang sinipa ni coach coach puso sa pwesto. after rajko si coach tab naman. baka may balak din siyang sipain si ex-congressman yeng guiao. mahiya naman siya tsk tsk tsk

  9. I don't know, chief, but if Toroman is the coach, expect a dogfight from Indonesia in the SEA Games.

tama chief. toroman is the new coach of the indonesian national basketball team. sayang ito. indons might give gilas a run for its money. mukhang mapapalaban tayo dito. it may not be a walk in the park anymore specially if the philippines will not field in its best players.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/sports.inquirer.net/354588/ex-gilas-coach-rajko-toroman-to-call-shots-for-indonesias-in-sea-games/amp

  10. Toroman or Tab would have been fine. Toroman is a Serb and who better to develop a team than a coach who comes from a country with one of the best basketball programs in Europe.

sayang nga si rajko. isn't he now the coach of indonesia? i will not be surprised if one day the indons will no longer be pushovers in southeast asia.

  11. i probably would be drooling watching the serbs led by the joker.

We can model our national team after Espana's, chief. The Spaniards developed their young guns in the early part of the century and became successful. The Gasols, Rudy Fernandez, Juan Carlos Navarro, Jose Calderon, Jorge Garbajosa, etc. were young pups when Spain decided to develop them and stayed with these guys for the long haul and it got them a gold in the World Cup in 2006 and two silvers in the Olympics. Kobe, Ricci, Kai and AJ should be our cornerstones in the next iterations of the national team.

If you envied the Italians, you should see how the Serbs play. Joker was like a bigger Magic Johnson, albeit, slower. They also have size and outside shooting. Radulica is not just a post threat but a threat on the fast break. Their passing and shooting is on another level. Rajko Toroman should have been our long-term coach. May umepal kasi na gusto magcoach kaya ganun. I guess you know who I am talking about.

si mr. puso hahahaha sakit siguro ng dibdib nitong taong ito.

  12. Yes, chief, Blatche was a disappointment. The team was infected with a lack of focus and lack of effort. What's also appalling is Yeng Guiao's refusal to call a timeout when Gilas was getting routed in the early going. Yeng's style of not calling a timeout when his team is getting bamboozled in the PBA won't work in the FIBA. Yeng was fine in the FIBA qualifiers but he just does not have what it takes to coach against European teams. If the SBP still thinks Yeng or Chot is it after the FIBA-Worlds, then I'd say the brain trust of the SBP should be overhauled. In fairness to Chot, I don't recall Chot's Gilas teams getting walloped by this much. In the 2014 FIBA-Worlds, the biggest deficit in Gilas' four losses was 12 points against the much superior Hellas. We lost to Croatia by 3 points in overtime, by 4 against Puerto Rico and by 5 against Argentina. This loss was due to the lack of focus, effort and urgency. Bring back Tab!

just like what Pnat8r stated, it is imperative that a true gilas program be formed. let's start with the cadets headed by kai and backstopped by the pba young guns like cj perez, bolick. of course this team should be coached by one who really knows international basketball. not because he is from the katipunan area, but i'd say coach tab is still the most qualified to date. like i've been saying before, the likes of coach tab is not meant for uaap basketball. i'm sure the community will not mind for the sake of flag and country. let's stop picking pba players then training them for 2 months. di uubra yan. i just envy how the italians played last night... crisp and pinpoint passing, accurate shooting. 3 point shooting was just like shooting FTs. and notice how they go for the 50-50 balls. that's how disciplined they are.

  13. Sobrang ganda panoorin ng basketball ng italy, I mean ganun ba kadali yung basketball sa kanila? Or sadyang mas may chemistry lang talaga sila?

    #labanpilipinas

exactly chief. scheduling ng pba ang dapat ayusin. di talaga uubra ang pili dito tapos training 2 months. i think pba should set its priorities when it comes to international tourneys specially fiba world. hindi na tayo natuto. hanggang sea games lang tayo naghahari. asia? napakahirap with china, korea, iran and now japan with its legit nba player. sana meron tayong clarkson na aasahan. yung fajardo, pogoy at del rosario barely had 2 weeks of training.

  14. I am ashamed at how Gilas played. No focus and no effort. It seemed as if they came to China on a junket instead of bringing honor to flag and country. Their passes were f#&king lazy and easily anticipated by the Italians. Yeng kept Barroca in the gane when it was apparent Dan Hackett was having his way with him.

just to add chief, andray to me was a disappointment. totally different from his 2 previous games in the qualifiers. sloppy and timid. yes i agree...no focus nor effort. i don't know the number of rebounds the italians had but i'm pretty sure it was glaring. gilas should've been the quicker team but said quickness was nowhere tonight. the italians were quicker to the looseballs. just confused...yeng called timeout when the italians were leading by 18-20? why did he not call it earlier? cj perez was a revelation, though.

  15. May laban na si Jayson Castro sa MVP award. One of the best player who never won an MVP award, yet. Basta maging maganda ang performance ng TNT next conference at least makaabot ng semis. It's about time naman na manalo na siya.

    5x BPC

    6× PBA Champion

2× Best Point Guard in Asia

MVP is now next in line.

    he deserves to be one.

  16. Yes, he was traded for Kemba Walker. He is now with the Hornets, chief.

so siya pala ang kasama sa trade. honestly i like how that guy plays. gutsy and energetic player. i feel he didn't get to reach his real potential being 2nd fiddle to KI.

  17. So tell me, how does being invited to FIBA translate to a successful NBA season?

Let me educate you. Even if four of the Cs were not invited to the FIBA training camp, I still see them qualifying for the playoffs due to their talent and cohesion. Without the diva, the Jays can now fully blossom. The presence of Kyrie Irving curtailed the development of Brown and Tatum. With Kyrie, the Cs were booted out in the second round. Without Kyrie, the Cs were half a quarter away from challenging the Ws in the 2018 NBA Finals.

Horford is difficult to replace because he is an NBA Swiss knife. He can score from the post or the outside; adept at positional defense; rebound, orchestrate the offense; etc. Kanter will not assuage the loss of Horford. Brad will mix and match the four big men the Cs currently have: Kanter, Time Lord, Theis and Poirier.

chief i was just reading the thread and i haven't read anything about rozier. was he traded? sorry haven't been in the loop of late. we saw an improved kanter last season...hopefully he will blossom under coach "B".

  18. i was just wondering where the defense was? where was the effort to go for the loose balls? why was devance benched in the 4th quarter? what i saw was TnT wanted it more than ginebra. players on the floor were already tired. bakit hindi nagpasok ng iba. masyadong maiksi yung rotation. caperal would've given jones a hard time. chan would've hit some 3s. bawi sa 3rd conference? pagod na yung import natin. lastly, TRADE GREG SLAUGHTER NOW. walang ginawa...walang pakinabang.

  19. Piso ka hambog. Overrated lang yang Jones na yan.

tama ka chief. overrated nga itong mamang ito. may temper din...madaling uminit ang ulo. isang matinding pitik lang dito, sasabog itong import ng TnT. so far so good. ingat lang kay castro at rosario sa 2nd half. maganda ang nilalaro nung dalawa.

  20. Gregzilla may have been rendered ineffective because TNT has big men that can shoot from three. He's too slow for close outs and if he closes out, the smaller guy like Rosario can drive to the basket once he gets faked. Greg is effective when a team has a dominant post player like Fajardo but when the big men of a team can shoot, he is forced to follow his man out.

true chief. in a spread out offense like what TnT has been doing, greg seems to be like a useless bamboo stick. even the likes of taha has been licensed to shoot from beyond the arc. he becomes a liability on the defensive end. on the offensive end? i don't know but that's left to be desired. wala yatang mapiga si tim cone.

  21. I hope it goes to a Game 5 but Ginebra has the capability to extend it to a fifth and deciding game because, top to bottom, Ginebra is better.

i honestly believe so too chief. brownlee, LA, stanley, japeth will have their usual numbers. the missing link really is slaughter. 8 points and 2 rebounds for a 7 foot center. scottie i think had 8 tsk tsk tsk if we can only see at least 50% of the slaughter who won the bpc a few years mas ok pa sana.

  22. Chief, when is the next game?

tomorrow chief...and game 5 will be on saturday! yes NSD spirit tells me there will be a winner take all game 5. greg gumising ka na at pahirapan mo naman si terrence jones.
