  1. Finally bought an 8 week old male Doberman puppy which I promptly named Kenshin. First time to have a Dob, so any advice here on how to handle him? He already got his first shots.

  2. you may bring your gf's dog to the nearest vet. if you can't afford a vet or have no time to visit one, you may try the following steps:

Interesting that a vet (ironically) does not recommend to have the dog given intravenous liquid for parvo, as his observation says it is more likely to cause the puppy to die than to let the disease run its course: http://forum.dog-tracker.com/YaBB.cgi?boar...;num=1125041562 I will post one of his observations here:

give injectable fluids to a parvo case and the diarrhea worsens. The dog would pass out fluid stool almost immediately after you take it off the fluids, sometimes even during the fluid therapy.

Other veterinarians and dog owners will simply attribute such diarrhea to the disease, but it's not so. I had several cases where owners are not willing to spend for fluid therapy, and I also had similar experience with my own pups, that if no injectable fluids are given, the pup recovers within 2 days, many within one day. (Pups given fluids take a minimum of 5 days to recover, all the time passing out fluid stool.)

Possible mechanism: IV dextrose is known to cause fever if given to normal dogs. Fever is a prostaglandin mechanism. Diarrhea in viral enteritis is also a prostaglandin mechanism. Thus, diarrhea is worsened by injectable fluids, particularly if these contain dextrose.

Ever since I avoided giving injectable fluids to parvo cases, mortality observed has decreased, I would say, to about only 20%. Deaths and recoveries are seen within a couple of days.

Of course, some may argue that the deaths might have been prevented by giving fluids, but observations do not bear this out. A lot more deaths are observed if fluids are injected. That's why you still hear a lot of veterinarians thinking that parvo is a high mortality disease -- because they still keep injecting fluids. To me, parvo is not that fatal. But show me a case where fluids are injected, and I could assure you that animal will not recover within 5 days, suffer diarrhea in that period, and may even die.

This, of course, goes against the norm, and many veterinarians have belittled me for bringing this up. But the observations are consistent. If only other veterinarians would dare to observe what happens if no fluids are injected.

I recall there were similar threads about this in the past, and several members of this board also observed what I did when their pups came down with parvo and they did not get fluids injected.

And just to clarify: Fluids are needed and can be helpful, but they should be given orally, and NOT by injection. (If the dog vomits it out, then it's a sign that the body could not take it at the moment. Try later, and/or give smaller amounts at a time.)

  3. Anyone here selling Doverman or German Shepherd pups? Preferably less than 3 months. Okay lang without papers. I'm not after show types, just a dog I can bond and walk around with.

  4. What test should i also undergo?

Indeed, i have a desk job .... and famili history both maternal and paternal !

ECG, chest x-ray, stress test...those are some of the tests you need to do. Of course, regular bp check-up is also recommended. I check my bp everyday now, once at mornng and another at night.

  5. Guy's I realized that everytime I have my BP checked, it registers above normal...  Lagi na lang high... I'm only 29yo but my regular BP is 130 over 90 or 130 over 100.. I also notice that my migraine had been frequent lately...

Migrane with that bp means you're at risk to develop hypertension. Better consult your doctor quickly to avoid it going too high. I am 36, and my bp skyrocketed to 150/110 at one point about three weeks ago. That's very serious. I also go to the gym, pero going to the gym doesn't necessarily mean you're okay. Lots of factors affect bp: overall lifestyle. Punta ka nga sa gym, lakas mo ding kumain ng fat and salty foods. You're inviting disaster. The only good thing going for me is that it happened early, so I can still make lifestyle modifications. But that doesn't mean you should wait for that to happen. Bp for me now is 130/85 or such. Still high, pero at least now it's controlled through diet, exercise (of course) and medication (mataas cholesterol ko, so that's why my bp is high. ECG and x-ray are okay naman).

  6. I also happened to catch his fight with Velasquez (not sure of the name; am referring to Manny's foe between Barrera and Morales). In that fight, Velasquez dominated Manny from the third round to the finish with a counter-punching style too. If it weren't for the knock-outs he registered in the first (or was it the second) round, baka hindi draw ang resulta kundi a loss for Manny. Doon ko unang nakita ang 'achilles heel' ni Manny, naaabangan ang sugod niya at na ka-counter-punch siya.

I think you're referring to Marquez, not Velasquez. Velasquez I think was the one Manny knocked out the last time. And Manny never knocked out JMM in that fight, but he did get in three knockdowns in the first round.

  7. A JMM rematch is not a good fight for Pacquiao for two reasons: first, it's not a big money fight and second, JMM's style exposes Pacquiao's weaknesses and negates his strengths.

That's all good--but why does JMM keep on offering excuses not to fight Pacquiao if he can supposedly expose Manny's weaknesses?

  8. tanong lang, totoo ba na bawal na daw maglaro sa mga private servers?

Sus, tagal nang sinasabi ng LUG yan, dami pa din naman naglalaro sa private servers. Balik na naman ako sa Sakray with a new account.
