i`ve read this book entitled "The Biographical History of Basketball" and in one chapter, "The Greatest Player in History", there is this myth called the "Jordan Supremacy Myth" which according to legitimate basketball historians (of which there are shamefully few), has been nurtured from the start by the constant drone of public relations geniuses, product pitchmen and media "talking heads" (of which there are many) :

 

 

- there is the issue of a print and video media that has constructed a full-fledged industry around the hyping of MJ, including the NBA itself.

 

- even more telling is the seemingly ceaseless propaganda blitz mounted by a Nike sporting goods company campaign designed to generate billions of dollars in corporate sales. Michael`s rank as the greatest basketball player, the greatest pure athlete, the greatest everything imaginable, has all been a necessary element in the corporate success of Nike and several dozen other high-profile companies that ride precariously on the coattails of Air Jordan`s legend.

 

in fact, the chapter describes MJ as "Michael Jordan--Most Popular Player on Madison Avenue"..

Players wise, they are still too raw for next years competition. But I think the idea of putting up a team exclusively to represent the country is good. It has some bad sides to it though. One of which is, the players don't get to play competitive ball that much. How many times do you get to play them in a year? And against whom? Maybe a good idea is to insert the team into on-going tournaments in the country and also outside of the country. The problem with some of the tournaments outside of the country, sometimes the other teams don't really play 100% so the competitive level is not that high. Playing them in the local tourney should give them some confidence in their skills (which I believe they have).

 

I think the Smart Gilas team, once it matures, could be a better "team" than the current Powerade PBA Selection Team. Again, take note of the word "team". For one, the players don't have any egos to protect, the coach need not be too fair in the playing time (yes, I am very critical of the Powerade Team rotation since I believed it lost us some games that we should have won!).

 

Again, basketball is a team sport. And a team that plays well together will probably have a better chance. It is only the exposure of this team that I am worried about. Plucking all collegiate members mean that some of these players have not yet matured or gained the confidence needed to really excel. They need to play in more tournaments and should be inserted into the PBA and other tournaments. PBA should adopt one conference for FIBA Rules and allow the Smart Gilas team to participate in that conference.

 

I have high hopes for this team.

Which popped in my mind. Could the PBA atleast accept Smart Gilas as a temporary PBA team? Yun na lang cguro conswelo natin for them opting not to lend players to the National team.

I have in the past, with a married girl.

Would I do it again? HELL NO!

Definitely UNTRUE. In my experience, women are sometimes forced in a situation na sa sobrang alam nilang pinapangalagahan sila & inaalagaan kahit di nila mahal yung guy, they give in.
