  1. Speaking of Joe Mari Chan, here are two more of his famous jingles:

BBC-2 (Banahaw Broadcasting Corp.) anthem (1973)

Title: Big, Beautiful Country (with prelude and postlude)

Performed by: Jose Mari Chan, Tillie Moreno, Alice Bell, Basil Valdez and Nonong Pedero

Words & Music: Jose Mari Chan

    Philippine Airlines jingle

    Title: Love at 30,000 Feet

    Performed by: Jose Mari Chan

Words & Music: Jose Mari Chan

  2. Pag maalala mo pa itong jingle at yung bangko na ito, matanda ka na talaga!

    Comtrust bank jingle (1973)

Comtrust (Commercial Bank and Trust Company) was established in 1954 and was merged with BPI in 1980.

The Comtrust building is on the right (foreground) - corner of Ayala Ave. and Salcedo St. - the present site of Convergys.

  3. There's a very nice youtube video posted by bro Muttley in the JPE sub-forum in the Politics, Economy and Current Events section. It's about a jingle from 1971 with Nora Aunor endorsing the then senatorial bid of JPE. Sure brought back some memories from that period.

Bro Muttley, you may want to re-post that jingle here in this forum. After all it is from the 70's

    Request granted!

    Enrile 1971 senatorial campaign jingle

  4. Crispa-Toyota rivalry; MICAA

Its really sad that our TV networks don't archive their local materials. It would be nice to watch vintage games like the 1973 FIBA Asia Championship final game (RP-Korea) or the PBA games (Leo Prieto era).

Yung mga pinapalabas sa Destiny na luma, kokonti lang kasi. I don't even know if games of the old MICAA (pre-PBA) were even recorded (baka live airing lang).

  5. nandau, filipino seafood restaurant which used to be by greenbelt park. and mingoy's, spanish restaurant at the fort strip and alabang.

If you miss Minggoy's, try Amalia's at Paseo de Magallanes, Makati or 67 Aguirre Ave., BF Paranaque. Its opened by Mrs. Amalia Jocson, the widow of Minggoy. Mrs. Jocson was the real chef of Minggoy's Restaurant. The menu is still the same as Minggoy's, so you'll feel right at home.

  6. From what I know, the original Savory Restaurant in Escolta was started by four brothers.

Presently, I'm not sure if the ownership of the original Escolta restaurant has remained the among the four brothers (and their descendants) or has been passed on to one of the four brothers.

Another brother's descendants or relatives are probably the ones behind "Classic Savory" (yung nasa mga malls).

I'm not so clear as to the ownership of the other shops - N. Domingo (San Juan), F.B. Harrison (Pasay), Newport City (Resorts World) and Timog (QC).

  7. For me, the Escolta branch is the real deal.

The family that owns the Escolta branch also owns "The Original Savory", but their chicken ain't as good as the main Escolta branch.

A different family branch owns "Classic Savory" (a.k.a., "Savory Classics"), these are the ones found in the malls. If your benchmark is Escolta, you will realize that Classic Savory's chicken is not the same (and not as good, IMO).

As for the other independent branches (also named "Savory"), like the one in N. Domingo (San Juan), F.B. Harrison (Pasay), Newport City (Resorts World) and Timog (QC), I'm not familiar as to how similar (or how different) their chicken is to Escolta's.

  8. Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen in SM Aura. Near authentic daw sabi nung half japanese na kasama ko noon.

I tried Ikkoryu a couple of times already. It's great, but I don't think it is as authentic as can be. It's not as fatty as I'd want my ramen to be. Still, they have some great stuff on their menu.

I tried this place recently - not bad.

I just can't stand the ambiance - its too noisy. I found the frequent spontaneous shouting of "irrashaimase" and "arigato gozaimasu" quite unnerving.

Those of you who get easily startled due to spontaneous shouting should stay away from this place.

  9. isa din ako sa mga nakapagdala ng girl sa HK dre.

don't enter into anything that you cannot get out of with your wits intact.

    get other girls

"Get Other Girls"..... you made it sound so simple........ how i wish it were that simple.

But IT IS simple to get other girls. Its all up to you. After all, its your money (and your heart).

I presume the girl your infatuated with is an MPA. Just get other girls in the same establishment or patronize other establishments. Now, if she finds out and:

    A. If you're a highly-valued regular guest, then she will definitely protect her business interest and try not to lose the highly-valued guest.

    B. If you're an expendable kind of guest, then she won't make a big deal.

You will not get out of the rut if you choose to stay in the rut.

    Wake up, kid.

  10. Uncle Bob had a Filipina wife whom he used to say was the most beautiful woman on earth. He used to commute by helicopter. I think he used a Hughes 300. Once he featured one of my letters on television. It was strange seeing the drawings I mailed him being broadcast on tv.

He was truly a great tv host and loved children. I use to get letters signed by him inviting me to come out on his show but for some reason, I never did visit channel 7 studio. Mahiyain kasi ako. ^_^

Uncle Bob married Loreto Feliciano in 1949. She is related to Chito Feliciano, host of "Dancetime with Chito", a popular RBS/GMA program during the early 60s. Maybe that's why the call sign of 97.1 FM Manila is DWLS (Loreto Stewart)?.

  11. Anyone out there with some memories of Bob Stewart (Uncle Bob)?

    Pa-rrrram-pam-pam-pam-paaaam!

I was a card-carrying member of the Lucky 7 Club during the 70s. When allowed, I would go to the studio and be part of the show taping. He would interact with all of us and give candies (Hit and Humbug candies?). I also remember there were two puppets, Spanky the elephant and Pancho (can't remember what his character was).

Uncle Bob was the founder of what is now GMA Network. After he sold his holdings in GMA in the early 1980s, he left the Philippines and retired in Arizona where he spent his remaining years. He passed away in 2006.

There have been a number of recollections on Uncle Bob within this thread. You can use the search function on the upper right of the screen to search within this thread.

  12. and if this is women's volleyball during the fab5 era (kuno) ng admu

it's 13-1 in favor of dlsu

Oo nga. Fab Five era, my foot.

  13. a friend of mine said the same thing ....... hmmmmmm well I'm sure there will be better "breakfast places" around.

    example Wildflour ?????

I haven't tried Wildflour. Hirap kasi mag park in that area.

As for IHOP, I will listen to my friend and not bother trying it anymore. I'll stick to good ol' Pancake House na lang. OK na sa akin iyun.

  14. Really? You would think Kimpura would employ a certain standard that would somehow also standardize the taste of their food. Well I suppose chefs are like artists. They are free to use their own artistic interpretation as to what good teppenyaki and other food should taste like.

Meron naman silang standards. Iba lang talaga ang touch ng veteran chefs who I think are stationed in Greenhills branch. Just my own take. Just the same, I don't think Makati branch will disappoint you.

I would assume this commercial aired sometime in the early 70s based on the taxi. I don't recall seeing this commercial.

That commercial came out in 1978/79.
