simpatiko
Nung rade one ako halos lahat kami puro ganito pero as time goes by di na rin ganito mga pinoy... Quote Link to comment
Jessieboy
Hmmm bakit nga ganito, kung sino yung walang pera yun pa yung sobra makaporma, kung sino naman yung maraming pera, yun naman yung low profile. Ano ba nakukuha sa pag pretend na meron eh sa reality naman eh talagang wala. Lack of attention? Bragging rights? Parang niloloko lang yung sarili di ba? Maybe this has something to do with being insecure. Fact that one cannot accept who and where he/she stands in the society. I pity these people tsk tsk tsk. Quote Link to comment

john_locke
Kasi nga...looking rich has its advantages eh. Sabi nga nila Jake and Elwood Blues..."phychological intimidation" tawag dun. Kaya use it wisely. :thumbsupsmiley: Now...feeling rich and claiming to be rich is another story. :thumbsdownsmiley: Quote Link to comment
Flash_Brown
just read all this post and i must say i tip my hat to the THREAD STARTER for coming up with this topic and all the VERY INFORMATIVE posts that were posted here -- sir, ang tatalino ninyo, galing ng mga observations ninyo -- really, i commend you for this.. let me just tell you a few stories regarding this.. totoo nga na when you look rich or really rich, yung power and control makukuha mo, when i was working before as an ACCOUNT MANAGERS sa isang low class na company, i always get jealous kasi mas pinapaboran ng mga ad agencies yung mga account managers ng ABS CBN, GMA7, INQUIRER etc.. kasi nga they flaunt the newest gadgets tapos aayain yung taga ad agency para kumain tapos di ka makakalaban dun kasi you're just earning 10K per month and you have to balance that kasi nga pag account managers usually sa pamasahe ka talo, kaya ako madalas ako mag taxi kasi ang hirap ng dadating ka sa mga ad agencies na pawis na pawis ka from commuting (tapos you're wearing long sleeved shirt or polo barong, mainit talaga lalo na pag nasa Makati ka).. anyways, my point is what you guys have already said, you're bound to show off whatever thing you have kasi nga to be accepted or to gain respect or maybe just to brag.. also before, i knew this girl na di ako pinapansin nung nag cocommute ako, parang ang pangit ng tingin sakin...when i had my car (courtesy of my parents who worked hard for the money -- middle class lang kami pero we have things most middle class persons do not have..) saka siya nagpapapansin, i just laughed it off and di ko pinansin.. sana more inputs pa regarding this...dami ko natututunan...heheheh Quote Link to comment

TanglewoodBoy
mas maganda talaga yung pinagpaguran mo yung pag-yaman mo and not something inherited or given to you on a silver platter (nanalo sa lotto, etc..) kasi you'd probably not pretend to be rich since mayaman ka na nga.... that's why bilib ako sa mga rich friends ko na di mayabang, sobrang simple and very nice... Ethel
i'd charge it to 300+ years of Spanish colonial rule. :thumbsdownsmiley:and a seemingly lifetime US "influence". :thumbsupsmiley: Quote Link to comment

maniaclara
hindi lang naman siguro Pinoy ang ganito. kahit naman siguro sa ibang culture, ganito rin yung iba. personally, i think there's two sides to this coin. on the one hand, there are people who feel, look or claim to be rich. on the other hand, there are people who are not comfortable in the presence of other people who are rich (whether they are truly rich or not). for the first set of people, i think that as long as you spend within your means, it's fine. people can always save up for signature stuff if that's their preference. what's bad is if you neglect other important needs because of your obsession for expensive/branded stuff. or if you belittle others who may live more frugally, or do not have the same material things or preferences that you have. feeling or looking rich is not a bad thing per se. it's an affirmation of your own value and how you deserve only the best. and what better way to love yourself than with expensive things. as for the second set of people, they need to learn how to handle socio-economic and cultural differences. the truly rich people may not be aware of how they make other people feel, it's just their way of life - a lifestyle they're used to. and those who are not comfortable in the presence of the truly rich or the feeling rich are left feeling insecure about themselves.
