Ok before I suggest something, may I know how much is you're budget for your rig? Kasi kung malaki budget mo, suggest ko na ang NVidia GeForce 7900GTX. It is PhP29,800 I think in PC Corner and PC Express. It can play any game on max settings. And also prepares you in case you want to upgrade your GFX in the future since GeForce 8 series is coming. Kung Athlon64 rin lang naman kung afford mo e yung Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4Ghz San Diego Core 1mb cache.

 

 

Just like I said, state mo muna budget mo and I'll try to help you out the best I can.

If you're planning to buy things locally, I suggest changing some specs

 

Instead of MSI, you can use Epox 9NPA+ Ultra, cheaper and basically the same I have the 9NPA+ Version here (Nf4 Vanilla) but it clocks well

 

AMD64 3000+ is fine

 

Good choice for the Hdd The 160gb 7200.9 has only one platter, thus, seek time is shortened a bit Its also good if you plan to go for Raid w/ the 160gb 7200.9

 

If you plan to buy a memory module locally, I can suggest some few things

 

1. Twinmos 2x512mb DDR400: The reason is that this one is uber cheap Considering that stores sell this around 4k or less It also runs @ 2.5-3-3-8, tighter compared to Geil's 2.5-4-4-8 Plus, if you're lucky, you might get the AA4T, which uses the Winbond chips, good for overclocking

 

2. PQI/PH 2x512mb DDR400 Value Select: well, I also recommend this one, only that you need to keep an eye on the chips Some PQI/PH chips uses brainpower PCB (B6xxxxxx) which is written at the top right corner of the PCB. The one with Brainpower PCBs usually has the Hynix Chips which clocks higher w/ lax timings, or if you don't overclock, sell it asap, as these are hot items for overclockers with a budget

 

The DVDRW is good NEC has been a reliable brand over the years But you can also consider Plextor Expensive, but really really worth it The bios updates are frequent, and since these updates increases the number of compatible discs for your DVDRW, its a good choice

 

If you plan to play games at a budget, go for 7900GT, since its cheap and performs really well. Right now, I don't recommend buying the uber high end stuffs, 7900GTX and X1900XTX, since the DX10 cards are on its way

 

Oh yeah, you forgot to get a decent PSU Get either a Silverstone Strider or an OCZ Powerstream If you want a cheap but high W psu, get a Forton, its around 700W and basically the same as the new OCZ GameXstream 700W, which has Quad Railings Actually, there has been reports saying that OCZ GameXstream is a rebadged Forton

yeah, ill consider getting the 7600GT, that is if i could squeeze some more budget.

 

anyways, im almost done looking up for the main parts. im planning to buy some of misc here, like PSU, UV cold cathodes, fans, case (pwde bang ilagay sa balikbayan box ung case? kc mas mura mga case d2 compared sa new egg eh). itll be better to buy those parts here kasi walang shipping and tax.

 

ive heard somewhere that no matter what parts i buy, dont ever ever go cheap on the PSU. and the best performance/price PSU in new egg is ANTEC TRUEPOWER which costs $80. damn! P4000 din un. baka merong matibay na PSU dito na di kasing mahal ng antec?

Yup, its true, the PSU is the backbone of your whole system. So no matter how good you pc is, w/ a sucky PSU, you're already risking your rig to go down in flames, Literally And Im sure you wouldn't want that

 

Now, lets talk about PSUs. When overclocking, its always recommended to go single rail (forgot the reason why ) But since more and more hardwares require more juice, dual rails/quad rails are now a trend

 

Stick w/ PSUs w/ APFC and 500W above

 

I'm a fan of the Antec TP1, very stable oc capability. But TP2 550w could also do the job

But... so far, the only decent (and cheap) PSU that I know is the HEC Winpower 550W, but its not in newegg, but its locally available for 3.9k It has APFC too Very stable. this PSU has been a hot stuff in TPC a few months back

 

All other PSUs that I know that are really good is OCZ and Silverstone. You can also go to Europe and look for FSP (Forton Source), since the new OCZ GameXstream 700W is a rebadged Forton

 

If you want, you can buy my OCZ Powerstream by middle of June. LOL

Since you're getting a DFI mobo, I guess you're planning to overclock So I suggest getting a tower casing, not a mid atx, as mid atx casing tends to get hot Look for a Tower Casing w/ good airflow I can't suggest since casings are user preference But I can tell you why I disposed my TTake Kadalf for 6.5k and buy a CM Stacker instead The CM stacker has very good airflow, thats basically it. W/ good airflow, there's no need for high rpm, high cfm, noisy fans for your casing

thanks for fan links... they're great.. but i think ill just look for modding parts locally.. do you know other modding parts that i dont know? UV CCFL, fans, sleeves.. anything more? does putting UV CCFL inside the case cause the temp to go higher?

 

all the while i thought you're not based here in the Philippines, pero lapit ka lang pala sa gilmore.

 

sorry for asking this stupid question, but how would i know if a case has a good air flow or not?

 

and oh, i havent tried OCing yet, but ill stil get the DFI mobo in case id try to OC later.
