If using an Intel chipset based system, yes. If using an AMD system running on the nForce corelogic, no since the nForce APU already does the audio processing work and thus, no CPU cycles are used. However, as a general rule, most gamers would be better off with a dedicated souncard which has full support for EAX, i.e. Soundblaster Audigy. The nForce Soundstorm however is the nest best thing if were talking about onboard sound. No other onboard sound comes close....
