Back To The 70's

Recommended Posts

talking about songs heard over and over, i remember the silver connection. a friend of mine had a tape featuring only fly robin fly, which we listened to endlessly. their debut album was great...almost all cuts were played at discos.

Correction lang ng konti Pareng Sally. Silver Convention not Silver Connection.

Here's a little info about the group:

Silver Convention

German duo Michael Kunze and Silvester Levay released "Save me" in 1974 on the European Magnet label, as a DJ promo using the artist name "Silver Bird". The single was an early disco success in the UK and the artist name was changed to "Silver Convention".

After scoring a UK hit in 1975 with "Save Me", they went on to reach number 1 in the USA with "Fly, Robin, Fly" (which the lyrically consisted of "Fly robin fly, up into the sky").

The international fame persuaded the duo to audition some female singers to adopt the Silver Convention name and the lucky trio were Linda Thompson (ex-Les Humphries Singers), Ramona Wulf (formerly a solo artist) and Gertrude Münzner (Penny McLean).

This ‘second generation’ Silver Convention proved more than a match for their anonymous studio counterparts and achieved transatlantic Top 10 success with the infectious "Get Up And Boogie (That's Right)", one of the most distinctive disco numbers of the period.

Yeah Fly Robin Flly: only six words in five minutes song! (Fly Robin fly, up up to the sky).

I remember as a young boy, my older cousins will have a party at our house and those would be the music that they'll play.

Fly robin fly . . .batman can not fly . . .

Kasabayan yan ng El Bimbo, Papaya, etc.

Tas manunood sila ng Penthouse. Sila Archie Lacson, Ronnie Henares, Pons(?) Quirino, etc. Kaya pati ako natuto magsayaw ng Hustle. Later on, swing. Which was to be an advantage at a later age because in a lot of parties that I would attend during my teens and even in my 20s, you get a few extra pogi points if you can dance the swing. B)

Tama ka jan bro. Marunong din akong mag-swing (we called that The New York Hustle). From 1977-80, I was one of those tambay sa Wherelse come midnight till 2am. Kapag panahon ng prom at debut ay lagi akong in-demand :D

Marunong pa rin akong mag-swing hanggang ngayon ka ya lang di na pwede sa prom at debut.

salamat storm, sayang wala na ata sila ngayon...was just listening to gino vanelli, joni mitchell, marvin gaye, tower of power...back to my old but durable maxell tapes...

Pareng sally! FYI na rin sa ibang mga interesado: there's a shop in Teacher's Village,QC where you can get those tapes converted to cd format. Nagtanong ako dun dati, they charge P500 yata per cd. I can check the name of the shop . . .

Oo nga pards. Ako rin, pag may mga reunion na lang saka ko nailalabas ulit. Nakakalimutan ko na nga yung ibang mga steps. . .

Prom at debut? Iba na ang dating eh  :D

Pero masaya ako kapag napag-uusapan yang swing kasi marami akong celebrities o kaya'y professional dancers (jazz, bayanihan and ballet) na naka-swing noon at minsan hanggang ngayon kapag me reunion or party na me kasamang ballroom.

I came upon a child of God

He was walking along the road

And I asked him, where are you going

And this he told me...

I'm going on down to Yasgur's farm

I'm going to join in a rock 'n' roll band

I'm going to camp out on the land

And try and get my soul free

Chorus*

We are stardust

We are golden

We are billion-year-old carbon

And we've got to get ourselves

Back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you

I have come here to lose the smog

And I feel to be a cog in something turning

Well maybe it is just the time of year

Or maybe it's the time of man

I don't know who l am

But life is for learning

*

We are stardust

We are golden

We are billion-year-old carbon

And we've got to get ourselves

Back to the garden

By the time we got to Woodstock

We were half a million strong

And everywhere there was song and celebration

And I dreamed I saw the bombers

Riding shotgun in the sky

And they were turning into butterflies

Above our nation

*

We are stardust

We are golden

Caught up in the devil's bargain

And we've got to get ourselves

Back to the garden

pareng jt thanks for the lyrics!

That reminds me to trot out the guitar and play the tune again!

Also hinahanap ko na naman yung Woodstock laser copy ko - the film is about three hours long pero sulit every minute of it....

yeah pare buhay pa din yung mga tapes ko and I still record from LP's to tape :P

Most of the classic 70's rock/folk music you can't find on CD anymore; and even then parang iba tunog pag nasa CD format na yung 70's music.

Pero when I was in Milan I chanced upon these CD's containing 70's rock music and concert jams by among others Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Ten Years After, The Doors etc. Mga jams umaabot hanggang 10 to 15 minutes ang isang song. Parang rare collection of rare performances - bought three of them yun nga lang yung sound quality is not that good dahil hindi remastered at kopya lang sa analog pero masarap pa ding pakinggan...

I have started to learn swing and also reggae dance to the tune of staying alive

I agree with you Pareng Bods. Masyadong malinis and matigas ang cd. At mas manipis ang tunog. Tapos wala pang static. :P

yes, the sound that resonates from a vinyl disc is so very different, especially if the stylus is new. those made in the US, germany, the UK, japan and the netherlands have very good quality; even the old villar records were thick. unlike those thin and thready ones that came out mostly in the 80s. eto yung mga may PARI-label...miss those days hunting for old records at garage sales, bangkal and mcs...actually, open reels and 8-track cartridges are still used in some radio stations for fillers and ads

High fives pare! :) During the late 80s, madalas ako sa Kudos and minsan, naka-swing ko si Dina Bonnevie

Madalas din kami sa Memories (somewhere in front of the old Ayala Museum)during that time . . .
