Mga pare let's go back to Mandrake's listing of 70's Number 1 hits.

Identify as many one-hit wonders there. :D

example: Starland Vocal Band - I don't think they came up with another hit, or another song for that matter. After Afternoon Delight they faded into the drug-addled haze of the 70's :D

My most unfrogettable time during the Martial Law years Was in HighSchool. I Lost my Viginity when a gracious kind MP out in the Presidential Suite in Maa Gave me the most Earth Crashing BlowJ I ever felt. Got her Laid TWICE I was only 17 but I really felt I was in an Altered State for a very Long While

wow pare you sure were a devout music fan in the 70's. Except for two or three, I guess you have been able to identify all those acts that went into oblivion after one hit :D

Al Green is a great soul singer - though he may not have been able to come up with another No. 1 hit, I'm sure most of his songs received critical acclaim.

Minnie Riperton may not have been able to follow up Lovin' You because I believe she died early from cancer.

I noticed wala sa listahan yung Black Betty by Ramjam - baka 80's ito. It was a very big hit like My Sharona, after which nothing was heard from Ramjam anymore :P

Thanks, Pards. As a kid, I was very close to my cousins and so their musical tastes had a huge influence on me. Kaya I'm quite a big fan of 60s and 70s music.

Pards, you're right about Ramjam. My cousin had their album that had that song "Black Betty" on it. I think 1978 lumabas iyon or early 1979. It was a 70s hit.

Al Green and Minnie didn't have another no. 1 hit song but they managed to come up with songs in the top 40. I think the same goes with the other one hit wonders.

The control of the media was 100% during the early days of Martial Law. There was even a time when all TV channels were showing one program entitled "Pulong-pulong sa Kaunlaran".

We Forum was the first opposition newspaper published by Joe Burgos, then Malaya came afterwards. Inquirer came after the assination of Aquino.

Pards, is Joe Burgos still around? Is Jake Macasaet still the publisher of Malaya? I used to see Jake Macasaet around our old neighborhood jogging in the mornings.

Hheheh!

I just had a stroke of good luck last weekened.

Tyring to go over some audio CDs in one of the Metrowalk stores last Saturday, I could not believe my eyes when a rare album by a band from long ago almost seemed to jump up from the pile.

Yup.. indeed!

It was a "LIVE" recording of no less than the Circus Band!

I guess someone digitized an old viny and removed all the hiss as the CD sounded very fresh. Nice to hear Pabs, Basil, Richard Tan singing along with Tillie Moreno, Ceres Jacinto and Pat Castillo. I'm pretty sure Jacqui Magno is in the record as well as it seemed this was their big Araneta conert sometime 73 or 74.

Man.. Basil really sang his heart out in their version of "wildflower"! while Tillie Moreno and Pat Castillo exchanged duests in Sergio Mendes' "Waiting For love! Darn.. that Richard Tan has a cool set of pipes as well!

Cheers!

Joe Burgos died in 2003 while Jake Macasaet was involved in a libel suit agains the First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.

It is true that comics was the only worthwhile reading during the martial law. In fact, it was the golden age of comics. Filmakers use comics as their primary source of stories for film. From Sharano Cuneta's Bituin Walang Ningnig to Carlo J. Caparas Pieta Nora Aunor as Bakekang and even Chiquito as Tacio were all from comics.

Other amusing komix characters in news dailies that made us laugh included:

1. Kalabog n Bosyo

2. Gorio n His Jeepney

3. Siopawman

4. Tisoy

5. Ikabod Bubwit
