sally bogna mathay
Yup, the supposed "leading" (they were leading because there no competent alternative was allowed to exist) dailies during the 70s were the ones owned and controlled by Marcos cronies: :thumbsdownsmiley: Daily Express - The BenedictosBulletin Today - owned by Hans Menzi (former aide-de-camp DAW ni Macoy) There was also the Times Journal Quote Link to comment

Identify as many one-hit wonders there. example: Starland Vocal Band - I don't think they came up with another hit, or another song for that matter. After Afternoon Delight they faded into the drug-addled haze of the 70's Quote Link to comment

Except for two or three, I guess you have been able to identify all those acts that went into oblivion after one hit Al Green is a great soul singer - though he may not have been able to come up with another No. 1 hit, I'm sure most of his songs received critical acclaim.Minnie Riperton may not have been able to follow up Lovin' You because I believe she died early from cancer. I noticed wala sa listahan yung Black Betty by Ramjam - baka 80's ito. It was a very big hit like My Sharona, after which nothing was heard from Ramjam anymore Quote Link to comment

As a kid, I was very close to my cousins and so their musical tastes had a huge influence on me. Kaya I'm quite a big fan of 60s and 70s music. Pards, you're right about Ramjam. My cousin had their album that had that song "Black Betty" on it. I think 1978 lumabas iyon or early 1979. It was a 70s hit. Edited March 17, 2007 by willow_boy Quote Link to comment

There was even a time when all TV channels were showing one program entitled "Pulong-pulong sa Kaunlaran". We Forum was the first opposition newspaper published by Joe Burgos, then Malaya came afterwards. Inquirer came after the assination of Aquino. Quote Link to comment

16track
Hheheh! I just had a stroke of good luck last weekened. Tyring to go over some audio CDs in one of the Metrowalk stores last Saturday, I could not believe my eyes when a rare album by a band from long ago almost seemed to jump up from the pile. Yup.. indeed! It was a "LIVE" recording of no less than the Circus Band! I guess someone digitized an old viny and removed all the hiss as the CD sounded very fresh. Nice to hear Pabs, Basil, Richard Tan singing along with Tillie Moreno, Ceres Jacinto and Pat Castillo. I'm pretty sure Jacqui Magno is in the record as well as it seemed this was their big Araneta conert sometime 73 or 74. Man.. Basil really sang his heart out in their version of "wildflower"! while Tillie Moreno and Pat Castillo exchanged duests in Sergio Mendes' "Waiting For love! Darn.. that Richard Tan has a cool set of pipes as well! Cheers! Edited March 19, 2007 by 16track Quote Link to comment

It is true that comics was the only worthwhile reading during the martial law. In fact, it was the golden age of comics. Filmakers use comics as their primary source of stories for film. From Sharano Cuneta's Bituin Walang Ningnig to Carlo J. Caparas Pieta Nora Aunor as Bakekang and even Chiquito as Tacio were all from comics. Quote Link to comment
