70s peeps, let's have an eb on Friday. I'll attend an art opening at Gallery Astra, 3f LRI bldg, in Reposo, Makati.

In the 70s, art was booming courtesy of the Imelda and her blue ladies.

Yup, that's so true. She was a patron of the arts, or at least, she tried to be. I'm not sure if it was in the 70s or maybe it was in the early 80s na when the National Arts Center in Mount Makiling was inaugurated. Van Cliburn, the pianist and one of Imelda's friends, even graced the occasion.

I think it was in the 70s when Van Cliburn came to the Philippines. I was not into classical music at the time, so I couldn't understand what the big deal was. Stupid me.

As for Harry Gasser, I believe he's now based in his native Cebu. And I think Tito Pepe is still alive. He's one of the most generous and helpful strangers you'll ever meet.

To this day, I still think that Student Canteen's "IQ 7" Quiz Contest was the best quiz contest on Philippine television. :thumbsupsmiley:

I also liked the fact that at the start of each show, they presented a "word of the day" and a "thought of the day". This program did its part in uplifting our culture, intelligence, and taste. :) It's just too bad that we haven't had a show with such a format and class ever since. :(

If I'm not mistaken, Bong Barrameda remained un-beaten in this quiz contest, where he made his name as a "walking encyclopedia." Does he still write for a Manila daily (not sure if it's Manila Times)? :D

His nemesis is political science major Alex Magno, now a Gloria apolgist and a writer for Philippines Star (is he still there).

Bong Barrameda and Alex Magno, it's like Crispa vs. Toyota of the brains.

Cops arrest TV host Pepe Pimentel

Police arrested former television host Pepe Pimentel based on physical injury charges filed against him before a Quezon City court, ABS-CBN News reported Monday.

ABS-CBN correspondent Gus Abelgas said that Pimentel or Jose Gonzales Pimentel in real life was arrested by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection unit based on a warrant issued by Judge Josephus Asis of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 40.

The report said the warrant stemmed from a complaint filed Lucresio Timkeng and Luis Sta. Cruz Tiu of Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City, against Pimentel, a former village chief.

Pimentel dismissed the charges against him, saying the complaint came from a mere argument about a fence.

The 76-year old entertainer, known for his stint in the defunct gameshow "Family Kwarta O Kahon," posted a bail of P2,000.

Is Tito Pepe still the Barangay Captain of Bgy. Laging Handa? (Scout Area, Timog, Q. C.)

Yup, the supposed "leading" (they were leading because there no competent alternative was allowed to exist) dailies during the 70s were the ones owned and controlled by Marcos cronies: :thumbsdownsmiley:
