Maybe having  an AthlonXP powered desktop is the preffered one due to the current economic crunch, however in the long run with upgrades youll be doing just to keep up. Athlon processor's are quite not that reliable when it comes to long term usage especially when it comes to a lot of multi tasking chores. Haven't really heard of an Athlon processor being a preference by major computer companies when designing their top end server's or desktops. If you will follow that logic this computer companies spend millions of dollars in research alone and tests, if they do how come they don't get the Athlon processors for their top of the line equipment offering. Just a thought though.... :(

hhmm... if hp, compaq or ibm is a major computer manufacturer then you may visit these sites:

hp & compaq

Falcon Northwest Computer Systems, The Ultimate in PC Gaming

you may wonder how come DELL doesnt use any AMD proc on their pcs? i could give u a couple of reasons... but POOR PERFORMANCE is NOT one of those. : )

p.s. what the hell is a Falcon Northwest pc? ans. -> it ROCKS.

About this post Im sure an athlon based pc can do its job and really make room for other things in the budget department . But if your gearing up to have a pc that could do the job even better dont settle for anything less ( no offense meant but I still think an Intel processor is still the way to go when it comes to desktop computing power). One thing I know that can match up or even put it a notch higher is a Mac unit but thats an entirely different thing.

Getting your dream PC is not a thing to be taken lightly,  think things through before deciding consider all the factors even after sales issues before letting go of that hard earned moolah.

Cheers and gospeed :D

i am an amd zealot(the way their processors perform for the price... it rocks!!! ) not because im an idiot but becoz of my reasons. ok lets go to computing power... can you give me an intel processor that can beat an AMD 2500+ Barton processor? easy - get a P4 2.4GHz HT. nice. how much? P9.5K - very nice. my Barton? P5K - what the hell? thats just the price of a P4 compatible mobo?

but mind you, an AMD processor is not for the faint of heart. you should have better cooling solution and good friends to spend with ur extra cash : )

well said bro, it's always bang for the buck as much as possible. All things being equal I'll go for AMD but that is not the case (coz of the short sightedness in my side of the ocean) but I still support AMD coz with them in the business, we get more for our money, Intel has to be competitive in price and performance like AMD is. ;)

rmember those days n pentium lang ang available n processor(well, meron AMD K-6 but mababa ang performance)? sus maria ang presyo ng pentium eh triple ng K-6!!!

but those were the days... now AMD has procs that has better price/performance than an intel, which side should i choose?

i already made mine ;)

I use Intel coz I use Windows a lot.

Remember the Wintel conspiracy?

I'm not sure that this still holds true.

Since nagiging popular na yung Linux as the alternative OS pangtapat sa expensive MS, then AMD is also gaining grounds as well.

It breaks the Wintel conspiracy.

Maybe I will try AMD one of these days. The price and perf are really attractive.

wintel conspiracy... hhmm...

linux did help pero what holds true is that AMD made a better processor than their previous ones (pre Athlon days), it performs well on both linux and windows. AMD have proven that it can beat intel on a windows platform. nice nice.

p.s. i do use windows A LOT. ;)

Mga guys, wala bang kaso yung video card na AGP8X isasalpak mo sa motherboard na pang-AGP4X? Yung mga utol ko, they insist on buying an Inno3D nVidia FX series video card sinasabi nila sa akin na ok lang yun but I don't think otherwise.

Sinong makakapagbigay ng advice dito would be appreciated. Thanks

technologically compatible ang AGP8X n video card s AGP4X n motherboard.

quick estimate:

Processor:

+Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.20 GHz

$450-$500

Operating System:

+Microsoft Windows XP Professional w/Microsoft PLUS

$100

Memory:

+2GB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz

$200 for 1GB of DDR 400MHz so we make it $400

Video Card:

+256MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 XT

$350

Sound Card:

+Sound Blaster_ Audigy 2 sound card with DVD Audio

$200

Hard Drive:

+500GB RAID 0 (2 x 250GB SATA HDDs)

$500

CD/DVD Drive:

+8x DVD+R/+RW Drive with CD-RW

$250

plus extras(speakers,monitor,mouse,kb,mobo) = $550

estimated total = $2800

x

Php 55.4

grand total (in peso) = Php 150,000

equivalent to a second hand corolla :)

Bro, i got the pic but it can't be uploaded here at MTC. It failed. the size is between 182-216 Kb. I will find a website which i can upload the pics and i will HyperLink it here at the forum, I will dropby at Greenhills Tom. to look for a cooling system. All suggestions are most welcome till tonight. My computer tech. advised me to get a cooling system which can cool up the core to atleast -22 degrees when running at max core speed. By the way here are complete specs of my system. Thanks in advance! :D :mtc:
