Hello,

I'm currently experiencing problem with my PC (clone). Previosly, when I'm playing games like Rise to Nations, my monitor will suddenly display garbage data (green and red lines). I tried a lot of things to remedy this. I already tried re-formatting my PC but still no dice. I also replaced the video card (same specs) but still I encounter the same problem. I also tried updating my drivers. The spec of PC are the following:

memory: 512MB

cpu: P4 2.66

motherboard: ecs8x

videocard: nvdia fx 5600 ultra

hard drive: 40gb

Can anybody help me with this problem.

Thanks

I've experienced the same problem before...

by the way, after the red and green garbage did your system crash and you needed to reboot or were you able to recover from the error without rebooting?

I could be wrong but anyway my best guess is that you have a leaking RAM try replacing your ram with a new one. What's your ram configuration do you have two 256 or a single stick of 512 memory? Please post the rest of your pc specification so we could help you better.

Due to my constant downloading of mp3s, I'm now about to run out of space in my hard drive. I have 37 gb capacity and I only have 7 gbs free space left. Should I buy another hard drive asap? If I get a hard drive, how should I have it configured with my current system and existing hard drive?

nope, now that the pc has two os in its hdd, it will always ask which os you would run at start up...

had that incident when i reinstalled win xp pro on a pc, forgetting to reformat, the pc then had two win xp's in it, the old xp home and the pro installed.

since your pc's new, do a reformat, divide your hdd in to two or three if its really huge then install your os on the least amount...

Actually you can just remove the Menu from bootup.

Just right click my computer ->properties -> advanced tab -> Under startup and Recovery -> click settings -> Under System Startup -> Click Edit

You will See like this on notepad:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /execute

just remove the line with windows 98 and save... Viola!!! no more startup boot options. ;)

I bought a clone pc yesterday P4. They placed win98 command com on the hd. I then installed win xp professional. It always ask which OS will it use everytime i turn it on. Can I remove the win 98 without formatting? Thanks!

As far as I know there is no way you can erase win 98 without affecting the newly installed win XP, my guess is you did not overwrite or upgrade win 98 while installing win xp. When installing XP over another OS you will be given a choice to upgrade, but instead i think you installed win xp as a seperate os in your system. What you have now is what we call a dual boot machine.

The thing is if you erase win 98 the start-up command string will also be erased. The consequences of erasing win 98 is that you would have winxp on your harddrive but without the start-up string, you wont be able to boot to xp.

If you are annoyed of the OS choices at start-up you could do the following tricks

first option, You can hide win 98 at start-up boot to winXP then

Right click on my computer, select properties, click the advace tab then choose start-up and recovery settings. Clicking this would lead you to the system start-up menu.

The first dialogue bar would ask you for your default operating system

choose "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect"

Then, check time to display operating system and key in 0 sec,

leave the rest of the options alone specially the edit tab. Manually encoding the start-up string could prove fatal to you system.

After doing so reboot then you would notice the choices would be gone and your PC would boot automatically to xp. However the win 98 coommand will still be present in your system.

The second Option is to re-format the whole thing.

I would prefer this option because First of all I would really hate to have a hidden OS in my system which would be eating-up precious storage. In this case out of sight should not be out of mind. And if you installed win 98 you would at least have 1 fat32 partition which is an inferior filing system when compaerd against win xp's NTFS file system.

But before I forgot Did you actually have win 98 or you only have the command string. Could you actually boot to win 98?

Please post so that I could suggest more solutions to you pc headache!

Hope this helps.

Yep I suggest that you grab a brand new hard drive, and get the biggest mother f**ker you can afford. Hard drive gets cheaper by the gigabyte when you get the ones with larger capacity.

Then I suggest that you put your os in your old disk and relegate the newer, bigger and badder disk as your data disk, Voila! welcome to mp3 dowloading heaven!

By the way a i have a 40 barracuda as a system and a bad ass 120gb barracuda for my video, mp3 and all sorts of data disk.

The one who assembled the pc at pcxpress placed a win 98 command.com

It can only boot to the dos command only.

Like this:

C\:

What I did is placed a bootable win xp on the cd rom and installed it from there.

Thanks again!

Well you dont have to reformat, the guy at the store shouldn't have placed the win 98 command com in the first place. Anyway with that said try my first otion if you are uncomfortable of trying extremes reply which is to manually edit the stat-up log, However I think that both solution would take that win 98 bugger of your start-up screen.

but you know what you can cut this

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

and paste it over the existing boot loader file so you dont have to manually edit.

but if you really uncomfortable you could do the first solution i mentioned.

one more question though, if you choose to boot to win 98 dos prompt does it actually bring you to a dos prompt?

joblow,

A license is needed before a person can operate two-way radios using VHF or UHF frequencies. Persons interested should first file an application with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for a permit to purchase and possess radio transmitters/transceivers. If granted, applicant can now purchase radio trnasmitters provided they present the permit. Thereafter, applicant should return to NTC to secure a Radio Station License in where a particular frequency is assigned to said applicant.

Tulong..., meron ba kayong pang repair ng boot sector/FAT ng hardisk. Kasi yung laptop (IBM tHINKPAD) ng utol ko, nababasa nya yung laman ng hardisk pero once mag - invoke ka ng any write commands (whether copy/delete/etc), nag-eeror ("Unable to write to disk").. Try ko na mga procedures na ito:

1. Fdisk/Format - kaso format failed dahil hindi makapagwrite sa hard-disk

2. Bios reset - ganun pa din

3. Scandisk - walang error pag normal scan, pero once i-try mo yung surface scan, parang naghahang

help, ala kasi akong budget for hard disk right now :)

Pre, Try mo ito... Tested na..

Welcome to HDD Regenerator - the unique software program for

regeneration of hard disk drives. The program eliminates physical

damages (bad sectors) from hard disk drive surface. It does not hide

bad sectors, it really restores them!

How it works...

Almost 60 % of all damaged by bad sectors hard drives have

incorrectly magnetized disk surface. Our researches have been

fruitful and we have found algorithm which is special sequence of

high and low level signals. These signals are generated by the

software and they switch damaged surface. Even low level formatting

is not able to handle this task!

Main benefits of HDD Regenerator...

HDD Regenerator regenerates bad sectors by magnetic reversal. If your

hard drive is damaged by bad sectors, the disk not only becomes unfit

for use, but also you risk losing information stored on the disk. HDD

Regenerator will regenerate your hard disk (almost 60 % of damaged

hard disks are subject to regeneration). As a result, not readable

damaged information will be restored. With all this going on the

existing information will not be affected!

May dapat ba akong bayarang tax kung ito ay nanggaling sa online casino, paid email or paid to surf? O kaya naman kung ako ay kumikita sa pamamagitan ng website ko.

Ah!! Something in my field. :)

Tama si Coychee, theoretically all income from whatever source is taxable in the Philippines. Therefore, when you file your income tax returns on April 15, you should pay the appropriate taxes on those income you gave.

This is assuming that taxes had not been withheld on it by the payee in the first place. Katulad ng income from online casino, if you had won in a Pagcor licensed center then your payment will automatically be subject to final taxes on winnings by Pagcor (they are mandated to do that), in which case, you are no longer required to declare the same as income (similar to interest income from bank deposits). However with the other income you mentioned, I don't think the BIR would be able to establish any paper trail to connect the income with you.

If "-=extreme=-" recommendation failed it means that ur HD is "pasira na" It means that u cannot use ur HD anymore but if you want to recover some files to ur HD or at least ur HD somehow u want to revived...

Well, dont worry I still have one more solution to ur problem we called it "Freeze it"

One trick I have learned as a technician, when the problem is data-read errors off the platters themselves, is to freeze the hard drive overnight. It makes the data more 'readable,' but for a one-shot deal. If this data is critical, and you have a replacement hard drive (which, if it's a drive failure, you probably do), then you can hook up your frozen hard drive and immediately fetch the data off before it warms up.

If the problem is heat related, I put the drive in the freezer for about 15 minutes to cool it down... sometimes this gets the drive up long enough to copy any critical files... Put the drive in a waterproof sealed bag, put it in the fridge for an hour or so, then have another go.

My solution:

** A bit unorthodox but, it has saved my butt! **

•Turn off the PC.

•Take out the failing hard drive and wrap a static bag around it.

•Throw it in the freezer conveniently located in the break room.

•Pray for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

•Leaving the hard drive in the bag, quickly plug the drive back into the CPU. (Just plug the in cables and go.)

•Cross fingers, turn it on, and move all data off the drive as fast as you can! Then add a tape drive and start backing the dumb thing up!

My so-called logic:

Metal contracts when it is cold.... so the platters shrink and increase the clearance for the read/write heads.

Good Luck! :D

Additional... :D

Here are some drive recovery tricks that have worked for me, in the order that I do them. Try booting the drive and copying the data off after every step.

1. Hold the drive upside down, making gravity change the head geometry ever so slightly. Vertical is also another option.

2. Slightly rap the drive with your knuckle, (but nowhere near hard enough to damage the drive).

3. Try the drive in another machine, (slight drive voltage change assumed to be the miracle worker here).

4. Rap the drive just SLIGHTLY harder than you did above in 2.

5. Freeze the hard drive in the freezer for two hours, and place in a plastic zip lock bag to prevent condensation from forming on the drive when you plug it back into the system, (head geometry, electrical resistance lowered, electrical contact points adjusted, etc., assumed to be the miracle here).

6. After the drive warms up to room temperature or better, rap it even harder with your knuckle this time.

7. Repeat all of above steps on next day, as sometimes I've gotten data off drive simply by trying again.
