300 sequel:

Frank Miller ("300") has completed a first draft of a proposed sequel to his graphic novel "300". Serving as a direct follow-up to its predecessor, the book will provide the basis for a potential film collaboration between Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures who produced the first film. Zach Snyder, who helmed the first movie, has expressed an interest in returning and co-writer Kurt Johnstad is rumored to be contributing to the screenplay.

 

 

 

Pirates of the Caribbean 4:

Disney's Head of Production Oren Aviv yesterday to talk about, among other things, the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. And the news is very good. "We're going to shoot Pirates 4 in April and May of next year," Aviv said. "We are going to release it hopefully in 2011." Pirates 4 would "hopefully be the first of another trilogy," he says, and would be shot by itself, not back-to-back again.

 

There's no word yet if director Gore Verbinski will be back again for Pirates 4, but Aviv does admit that the whole franchise needs a bit of scaling down. "It's important to get the story right and it's important to me to scale it down, because we can't get bigger," Aviv said. "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters." One thing's for certain, Captain Jack Sparrow will be swashbuckling his way back into theaters again come 2011.

 

 

 

Castlevania:

James Wan ("Saw," "Dead Silence") will co-write and direct the film adaptation of classic video game "Castlevania". Wan is replacing Sylvain White, who was previously set to direct.

 

Paul W.S. Anderson penned the script and is producing. The story begins as a Transylvanian knight leads his men into a gothic castle to seek refuge from the Turkish army. The knights soon discover the castle is controlled by the original vampire.

 

The script sets up a generational clash between Vlad the Impaler and the Belmont family, a clan that unleashed the original vampire and battles to defeat him.

 

 

 

Toy Story 3:

Director Lee Unkrich has confirmed the rumor that Michael Keaton will be voicing a role in the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar feature, Toy Story 3. The actor will voice the character "Ken" in the film.

 

Set for release on June 18th, 2010, the film brings back the entire cast, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger, Ned Beatty and Michael Keaton.

 

 

 

The Book of Eli:

In the film Denzel Washington portrays a lone hero in a not-too-distant apocalyptic future who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption.

Dark Shadows:

Tim Burton's first project after his upcoming "Alice in Wonderland" 3D project will be the long gestating "Dark Shadows". Based on the cult '60s supernatural TV show, the spooky soap-opera featured gothic horror staples like vampires, ghosts and zombies. Johnny Depp is attached to play Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series.

 

 

 

Tron Legacy:

TRON Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. A Nightmare on Elm Street (remake):

The first picture of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger has finally shown up online. The remake of the classic dream demon flick arriving in theaters April 16, 2010. Directed by Samuel Bayer, the film stars Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara, Kellan Lutz, Katie Cassidy, Clancy Brown and Connie Britton. The films' premise centers on Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley), a serial child molester murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

King Kong (prequel)

Spirit Pictures is looking at a movie that will be based on the book “Kong: King of Skull Island”. The movie would focus on the backstory of Skull Island and how Kong became King of the island inhabited by other giant gorillas and dinosaurs. Penned by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, “Kong: King of Skull Island” was published right around the time that Peter Jackson made his King Kong remake in 2005. The movie would use the same motion-capture technology that Robert Zemeckis has used in The Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol.

 

 

 

The Black Panther:

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who is more affectionately known as Mr. Eko from “Lost”, has revealed that he is in talks with Marvel Comics to play The Black Panther in a big-screen adaptation of the comic book. The revelation was made during an interview with MTV at this weekend’s Comic-Con in San Diego.

 

Created by Stan Lee, The Black Panther came to New York City from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. He has fought alongside The Fantastic Four, The Avengers and Captain America. He has helped his homeland when it was on the brink of civil war and also returned to America to fight the Klu Klux Klan.

 

 

 

The Goon:

Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown will be the voices for the upcoming animated movie based on the comic book series The Goon. The announcement was made during an entertaining panel that featured series creator Eric Powell. The upcoming movie will be produced by David Fincher. Clancy Brown will voice The Goon and Giamatti will be Franky.

 

The story is about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest.

 

The series has a distinctly paranormal slant, with the average story concerning ghosts, ghouls, skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for pie, extra-dimensional aliens, and mad scientists.

 

 

 

Black Swan:

Darren Aronofsky has cast Mila Kunis as Natalie Portman's nemesis in Black Swan. Kunis is in discussions to star opposite Portman in the supernatural drama centering on a talented ballerina (Portman) in the New York City Ballet who is tormented by a rival who might or might not be a figment of the dancer's imagination. Kunis would play the rival, Lilly, with strange occurrences between the two increasing as they prepare for a big performance.

 

 

 

Dead Space: The Movie

D.J. Caruso ("Eagle Eye," "Disturbia") is attached to direct the sci-fi/horror video game adaptation "Dead Space". Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce.

 

Game manufacturer Electronic Arts is developing the property and considering takes from prospective screenwriters. Once a scribe is set and the details worked out, the property will be auctioned off to studios sometime in September.

 

Dead Space is set in the 26th century in deep space, where an engineer who responds to a distress signal from a mining ship finds the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. The creatures are human corpses, reanimated by an alien virus.

The First Avenger: Captain America

 

One year before The Avengers hits theaters, we'll be seeing The First Avenger: Captain America, which will be set in WWII and is being directed by Joe Johnston. A few hints about the potential appearance of two groups in Captain America: The Invaders (good guys) and Hydra (bad guys).

 

"Setting it in the Marvel version of WWII is going to open it up [to an international audience] in a big way. It'll actually end up being our most diverse and our most international film. In terms of the cast there's a group that [Cap] works with that will have an opportunity for much more international casting."

 

When asked straight up if we'd see The Invaders in the movie, Marvel's Kevin Feige answers was a coy "I don't know." At a future point in their interview at Comic-Con, he also "namedropped" the villainous organization called Hydra, a technologically advanced secret terrorist group that often fought against SHEILD and Captain America. However, Hydra was never active in the comics until after WWII, so therefore they'd be messing with the canon a bit too much if they were to introduce them in this movie. However, this could be a subtle hint at who we could see as a villain in The Avengers movie.

 

As for The Invaders, they were a group of WWII superheroes first created in 1975 by Roy Thomas. In addition to Cap and Bucky, the Invaders consisted of other various characters like the Human Torch, Toro, Namor the Sub-Mariner, the Blazing Skull, and the Silver Scorpion. I think it would be smart for them to actually put a group like this in Captain America, because it allows them to cast international actors (like Feige said) and give us a taste of what a powerful team like the Avengers will be like. And for non-comic book fans, this is a good way to get them ready for what we'll be seeing in 2012 - an epic Avengers movie.

Alien (prequel):

Twentieth Century Fox is resuscitating its "Alien" franchise. The studio has hired Jon Spaihts to write a prequel that has Ridley Scott attached to return as director. Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.

 

The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

 

 

 

 

The Darkness:

Reports says that Channing Tatum (Fighting, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Public Enemies) has been cast in The Pang Brothers' (The Eye) latest genre effort, The Darkness. Based on the on the Garth Ennis ("Preacher") David Wohl and Mark Silvestri comic, on the eve of his 21st birthday, Jackie was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, "Uncle" Paulie. He finds his body possessed by "the Darkness" , a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feeds off the dark.

 

 

 

inFAMOUS:

In the continued onslaught of game-to-film adaptations, the PS3 exclusive open-world superhero-action title inFAMOUS has been tapped for the big-screen treatment. Sony Pictures is currently bidding for the rights to the game, a no-brainer since the title was published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

 

Avi and Ari Arad will produce the film – to be scripted by Sheldon Turner – which involves an everyday bike messenger named Cole MacGrath who is transformed into a lightening-powered bad-ass in the wake of a mysterious explosion. The game, which allows the player to skew good or bad, follows Cole as he takes down three of the city's most nefarious gangs and uncovers a conspiracy of comic-book proportions.

 

 

 

Tron Legacy:

Disney, today, has confirmed that Michael Sheen will play the villain in Tron Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 cult classic. The talented actor has played a vast array of charcters in the past, including Lucien in the Underworld movies, Tony Blair (twice), David Frost in Frost/Nixon and a vampire named Aro in New Moon. This will be the first time Sheen plays what will probably be a computer-generated bad ass.

 

The long-awaited sequel also stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

 

 

 

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Bryce Dallas Howard is set to join the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as the character of Victoria replacing Rachelle Lefevre who appeared as the character in the 2008 original film.

 

Lefevre will also appear in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon, but has reportedly had to bow out of the third film due to scheduling conflicts. Filming on the third film begins in Vancouver in August with David Slade directing for a release of June 30, 2010. New Moon hits theaters on November 20 this year.

 

This is the second bit of new casting for Eclipse that has been announced as unknown actor Xavier Samuel joined the cast back in mid-July and will play newborn vampire Riley, a good-looking college student who joins the plot of villain Victoria to murder protagonist Bella (Kristen Stewart).

 

 

 

The Parsifal Mosaic:

Ron Howard is to direct The Parsifal Mosaic, an espionage thriller written by author Robert Ludlum. The novel is about a CIA operative, Michael Havelock, who witnesses the execution of the love of his life because she is believed to be a KGB double agent. The CIA then sees Havelock as a paranoid schizophrenic and a threat to their operations in Europe and orders he be terminated. Ludlum is also the author of the Jason Bourne series. Currently, the fourth Bourne novel, The Sigma Protocol, is in development.

 

 

 

Oblivion:

"Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski is developing "Oblivion," based on his own concept, as a feature for Radical Pictures. Kosinski has signed to direct the action feature and will produce along with Radical principal Barry Levine, filmmaker David Fincher and Anonymous Content's David Morrison. "Oblivion" also will become an illustrated novel, Radical Publishing's first venture beyond comic books, done in a format featuring 40 fully painted landscape images that will accompany the prose.

 

The story centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

 

 

 

The Lorax:

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are turning the Dr. Seuss book "The Lorax" into a 3-D CG animated feature. Dr. Seuss' The Lorax will be co-directed by Chris Renaud and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio, with Paul & Daurio writing the script.

 

"The Lorax" is narrated by a greedy entrepreneur who, despite warnings from the tree-loving Lorax, strips a forest of its stock of Truffula trees to manufacture clothing. The results are catastrophic as all the animals leave and nothing's left. The picture is targeted for a March 2, 2012, release, which falls on the birthday of Theodor Geisel, who died in 1991.

 

 

 

Battle: Los Angeles

Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Peña and Bridget Moynahan are joining Aaron Eckhart in Columbia Pictures' Battle: Los Angeles. The sci-fi action film, directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Original Film's Neal Moritz, is set to begin production in the fall.

 

"Battle" revolves around a Marine staff sergeant (Eckhart) and his new platoon's battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles. Rodriguez will play Crpl. Adriana Santos, a member of a radio battalion. Pena plays the father of a boy the Marines find along the way, and Moynahan plays a veterinarian.

 

 

 

The Warded Man:

Filmmaker Paul W. S. Anderson and longtime producing partner Jeremy Bolt, the duo behind the moneymaking "Resident Evil" franchise, have picked up film rights to Peter V. Brett's debut fantasy novel "The Warded Man." Anderson is attached to direct and will produce with Bolt. Stephanie Johnson, who brought the title to the pair, will executive produce. Anderson and Bolt acquired the rights via their respective production companies, Tannhauser Gate and Bolt Pictures.

 

The book is set in an undetermined future where mankind is beset by nightly attacks from demonkind and has been thrown back into a feudal state. Three young people emerge with the potential power to turn the tide, including the title character, a man who has wards (spells) tattooed on his body.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4:

Disney is on the verge of putting "Chicago" and "Nine" director Rob Marshall as the director of a fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” a move that puts the film on track for a 2010 production start, with Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow.

 

There hasn’t been a director at the helm of the pirate ship since April, when Gore Verbinski stepped out to focus on a movie version of the vidgame “Bioshock” for Universal (Daily Variety, April 7, 2009). Though that film’s lost some momentum, Verbinski has moved on to other directing and producing projects.

 

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have been meeting with a number of directors in recent weeks, because the studio wants to pull the “Pirates” film together and have Depp star in it before he does “The Lone Ranger” for the producer and the studio. While Marshall’s involvement wasn’t immediately confirmed, sources said things look good enough that the studio has begun casting new characters that will appear in the picture.

Mission: Impossible IV

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have signed on to write the screenplay for Mission: Impossible IV for producers Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures.The scribes aren't big feature names yet, but they join a roster of writers who transitioned from Abrams TV series creations to pen the features he directs and produces through his Bad Robot banner. Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons with Abrams as co-exec producers of Alias, and they will script Mission: Impossible IV based on a story Abrams wrote with them. While the only other commitments so far are for Cruise and Abrams to produce the film together, sources said that Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity.

 

"I've been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years," Abrams said. "Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We're off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed."

 

The film is aimed for a 2011 release.

 

 

 

The Green Hornet:

Columbia Pictures has announced today that Taiwanese actor Jay Chou has been cast as Kato in The Green Hornet. Chou steps in for Stephen Chow, who was originally cast as Kato and was also in the running to direct the film as well. Chou joins the cast that already includes Seth Rogen as the title character along with Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz. The Green Hornet was written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg and will be directed by Michel Gondry. The film is already slated for a July 9, 2010 release date.

 

 

 

Awaken the Dragon:

Korean pop star Rain is tipped to star in "Awaken the Dragon" for Warner Bros. Pictures. Described as a noir-esque remake of Bruce Lee 1973 martial arts classic "Enter the Dragon", the contemporized drama follows a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs. "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter is set to direct. Rain stars in "Speed Racer" and the upcoming actioneer "Ninja Assassin".

 

 

 

Diary of a Wimpy Kid:

Steve Zahn has joined the cast of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" at Fox 2000. Based on the best-selling novel series by Jeff Kinney, the story chronicles the adventures of wisecracking middle school student Greg Heffley over the course of an academic year, as told through the young man's diary and hand-drawn cartoons. Zahn and Rachael Harris play the parents of the titular character played by Zachary Gordon. Robert Capron will portray his best friend, and Devon Bostick will play his brother.

 

 

 

Alibi:

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are set to produce a feature film version of Top Cow's comic book "Alibi" for Mandeville Films and Top Cow Productions. The story centers on a well-known socialite whose public presence establishes a perfect alibi for the covert activity of his secret twin brother, a government assassin. The studio aims to achieve the success they had with another Top Cow comic label - "Wanted". Joshua Hale Fialkov penned the original comic.

 

 

 

The Adventurer’s Handbook:

Jason Segel will star with Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman in the Universal comedy The Adventurer’s Handbook. In the movie, four childhood friends who are bored with the monotony of their lives embark on a global adventure. Segel will play a talented musician who never got his act together, becoming a backup piano player and an alcoholic. Hill will play an engineer, isolated from his family. Schwartzman will play a spoiled and cowardly three-time Grammy winner.

 

 

 

Mother's Day (remake):

Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast of Darren Lynn Bousman's Mother's Day remake. The original film was directed by Charles Kaufman's in 1980 for Troma. In this new version, a nefarious family comes back to their old town with their main goal being to make life miserable for the people living in their home. Woll will play a daughter in this bad family

 

 

 

The Orphanage (remake):

Actor-turned-filmmaker Larry Fessenden ("Wendigo," "The Last Winter") is set to direct "The Orphanage", the American remake of Juan Antonio Bayona's 2007 well-reviewed Spanish-language supernatural thriller "El Orfanato" that New Line Cinema.

 

The story centers on Laura, who purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long abandoned facility as a place for disabled children. Once there, Laura discovers that the new environment awakens her son's imagination, but the ongoing fantasy games he plays with an invisible friend quickly turn into something more disturbing. Upon seeing her family increasingly threatened by the strange occurrences in the house, Laura looks to a group of parapsychologists for help in unraveling the mystery that has taken over the place.

 

Guillermo del Toro, who produced the original, will serve in the same capacity and will co-adapt Sergio G. Sanchez's original script with Fessenden. Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce the remake.

 

 

 

Sucker Punch:

Carla Gugino has been added to the cast of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch reuniting the actress with the director after starring as Sally Jupiter in Watchmen earlier this year. Gugino joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish star in the 1950s-set tale of a girl (Browning) confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape.

 

 

 

Barbarella (remake):

Joe Gazzam has been set to write the reboot for Barbarella, which will center on the character that was immortalized by Jane Fonda in the 1968 original.Robert Luketic will direct the sci-fi action-adventure, with original producer Dino De Laurentiis on board to produce the update along with his wife, Martha De Laurentiis.

 

Robert Rodriguez came on the project, which was then set up at Universal, in May 2007 with an eye to making it a vehicle for Rose McGowan. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the script, but the studio and director reportedly could not agree on where to shoot. After the parting of ways, a new direction for Barbarella was sought.

 

Barbarella centers on a female mercenary who roams the universe of a distant future, undertaking missions that require fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality. The character debuted in 1962 in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest and was known for her sexual escapades. There also was a musical produced in 2004.

 

 

 

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

The film stars John C. Reilly, Salma Hayek, Ken Watanabe, Willem Dafoe, Josh Hutcherson and Chris Massoglia and is directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie and About a Boy). Resident Evil: Afterlife (showing on September 17, 2010)

 

The Resident Evil movies are Sony Picture’s second most profitable movie franchise. No surprise then that the fourth film in the Resident Evil franchise is on the way. Titled Resident Evil: Afterlife and touted to be a series reboot, the film is scheduled to shoot later this year and will be hitting the big screen on the 17th of September 2010.

 

Paul W.S. Anderson is returning to the director’s chair for Resident Evil: Afterlife. Anderson has written the three previous films and directed the first.

 

Milla Jovovich is set to return as Alice and Anderson said that Afterlife will be shot in 3-D, using the same camera system James Cameron used for Avatar.

 

Anderson, who is also writing the film, also revealed that he plans for Afterlife to be a “re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise”, hoping to start a new trilogy. Plot details and the rest of the cast are still being kept under wraps.

DreamWorks to make 'Ghost' in 3-D

Spielberg fights for rights to Japanese thriller

 

DreamWorks has acquired rights to the Japanese manga "Ghost in the Shell" with plans to adapt the futuristic police thriller as a 3-D live-action feature.

 

Story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

 

Created by Masamune Shirow, "Ghost in the Shell" was first published in 1989 by Kodansha, one of the largest publishing companies in Japan. It went on to generate two additional manga editions, three anime film adaptations, an anime TV series and three videogames. The second anime film, "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence," was released in the U.S. by DreamWorks in 2004. Production IG produced all the anime.

 

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are attached to produce and brought the project to the studio. The rights deal was brokered in Japan by Filosphia's Tetsu Fujimora. He will exec produce with Mistuhisa Ishikawa. Jamie Moss has been tapped to pen the adaptation.

 

Universal and Sony were also chasing "Ghost in the Shell," but Steven Spielberg took personal interest in the property and made it happen at DreamWorks.

 

"�'Ghost in the Shell' is one of my favorite stories," Spielberg said. "It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."

 

DreamWorks prexy of production Adam Goodman said "Ghost in the Shell" is a property "that epitomizes 3-D live-action motion picture possibilities."

 

Avi Arad is at the forefront of comicbook-based material, having produced the three "Spider-Man" films, the three "X-Men" movies, the two "Fantastic Four" picss and the upcoming "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk."

 

Moss' writing credits include "Street Kings," which bowed Friday, and "Last Man Home," in development at Universal.

Update: The Singaporean media company Axxis (Zodiac: The Race Begins) has been listing a live-action/computer-graphics remake of the Bubblegum Crisis anime series on its slate of upcoming titles since May. (In the linked page, select "Axxis Lineup," then select "Upcoming Titles," and finally select ">>next.") The company's website includes a pre-production image for the project. The Japanese anime studio AIC has just announced on Tuesday that it signed a basic agreement with Singapore's Cubix International PTE Ltd. for the remake project on October 30.

 

Channel News Asia reported in May that Axxis announced "four live-action/computer-generated feature films valued at over US$135 million" at the Cannes Film Festival. The May 20 press release itself described Bubblegum Crisis as "a film based on the same-name original anime series from Japan about 4 young female mercenaries fighting for justice."

2012 Bubblegum Crisis Film Planned with Caucasian/Asian Cast (Updated)

 

Australia's Arclight Films, Canada's Wizzfilms, the Infotainment China Media Company, and the United Kingdom's Latec International have agreed on Thursday to produce the proposed live-action film adaptation of the Bubblegum Crisis anime franchise. The defunct ARTMIC studio created the original 1987-1991 video anime series about four women who protect a cybernetic future Tokyo with powered armor. Japan's Anime International Company (AIC) had previously signed a basic agreement with Singapore's Cubix International PTE Ltd. (Zodiac: The Race Begins) for the adaptation on October 30. Benjamin Toh of Singapore's Axxis International is acting as executive producer.

 

The US$30-million project is planned for worldwide release by early 2012. The producers are negotiating for the director and cast, who will shoot the film in Australia. A spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter newspaper that the cast will "feature two male leads and a quartet of female action babes — two Caucasian and two Asian." Mokko Studio, a partner studio of Wizzfilms with Oscar-winning animation director Anthony LaMolinara (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2), has agreed to do the post-production work in Canada. AIC and Cubix said in 2008 that they intend to consult with former ARTMIC staffers Shinji Aramaki (screenplay and mechanical design) and Kenichi Sonoda (character design) to maintain a connection with the world concepts of the original series.

 

Screendaily.com describes the project as "the first co-production between the six nations." By lining up partners from Australia, Canada, and China, the producers may be able to partly bankroll the film with funds from the respective governments and release the film in China. Axxis says that 70% of the project's funds have been committed.

 

The original anime sold over 600,000 copies on laserdisc and video tape. It already spawned the AD Police Files prequel video anime series and the Bubblegum Crash sequel video anime series. The Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 television anime series remade the original story in 1998 and spawned its own AD Police television series spinoff and the Parasite Dolls video series.

The Vampire Chronicles:

Universal Pictures is allegedly looking at potentially rebooting Anne Rice's popular novel series "The Vampire Chronicles". Rumor has it that Robert Downey Jr. is in close talks to play the vampire Lestat, a role made famous by Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's 1994 effort "Interview with the Vampire" and Stuart Townsend in Michael Rymer's 2002 film "Queen of the Damned".

 

 

 

Shrek Forever After:

Craig Robinson will be voicing a character named “Cookie” in the fourth installment of the Shrek franchise called Shrek Forever After. Shrek Forever After will also feature the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Justin Timberlake, Ian McShane, Julie Andrews and Larry King, to name a few. Halo: The Movie

Rumors says that one of the biggest producers in Hollywood history is currently in active negotiations to develop the feature film adaptation and no it's not Jerry Bruckheimer or Peter Jackson. It's the man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers, Mr. Steven Spielberg.

 

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination.

 

 

 

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2

Oscar-winning scribe Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects") has signed on to pen the script for 20th Century Fox's "Wolverine" sequel. The news comes just a few days after a quote from Hugh Jackman emerged at MTV News saying "Japan is where we're heading, [and] we're starting to work on it now. We're in the ... first steps of developing that story".

 

Jackman return as Logan/Wolverine in the story which will be based off the early 1980's Chris Claremont-Frank Miller mini-series in the comic which has Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai's code of honor and respect. Jackman and Lauren Shuler Donner will return as producers.

 

 

 

The Three Stooges:

The Boston Globe was able to catch up with Peter Farrelly last week and were able to confirm some news regarding their upcoming movie about The Three Stooges. It was confirmed that Paul Giamatti has signed on to replace Sean Penn as Larry. Benicio Del Toro, himself a huge Stooges fan, will be playing Moe. Despite reports that Jim Carrey will be playing Curly (it is even indicated on his IMDB page), apparently this is not the case.

 

 

 

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Catalina Sandino Moreno ("Maria Full of Grace," "Che") has been cast as the vampire character of Maria in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse". Moreno plays a woman who tries to create a newborn army of vampires, recruiting the Confederate soldier Jasper to her cause. The actress joins other newcomers to the franchise such as Jack Huston, Xavier Samuel and Bryce Dallas Howard who were recently cast. "Eclipse," directed by David Slade, begins shooting next week in Vancouver.

 

 

 

Battlestar Galactica:

Bryan Singer has been confirmed to direct and produce a big-screen version of Battlestar Galactica. Universal picked up the movie rights to the hit show this February and with X-Men helmer Singer onboard is fast-tracking the project. There is no script yet, but apparently the new Galactica movie will be a totally separate reimagining of the BSG concept, and stand completely independent of the Sci Fi series. The film will be going up against spinoff Caprica -- set a generation before the events of the TV show.

 

 

 

Priest:

Maggie Q is joining the cast of Priest starring Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet. The movie, billed as a horror Western, is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church and teams up with a sheriff (Gigandet) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Maggie Q will play a priestess/vampire hunter. Rowr. The project is based on the TokyoPop comic by Cory Goodman. Scott Stewart will direct for Screen Gems.

 

 

 

Straw Dogs (remake):

James Woods ("Videodrome," TV's "Shark") and Dominic Purcell (TV's "Prison Break," "Primeval") have joined the cast of the remake of Sam Peckinpah's controversial classic "Straw Dogs". In the film, James Marsden plays a Hollywood screenwriter who relocates with his wife (Kate Bosworth) to her hometown in Mississippi. Not long after his wife is assaulted and he turns vigilante to protect them. Alexander Skarsgard and Walton Goggins also star. Director Rod Lurie ("The Contender," "Nothing But the Truth") and the cast are currently in rehearsals for the film before filming begins. The movie opens in cinemas February 25th 2011.

Criminal Macabre:

Universal Pictures has acquired film rights to the graphic novel mini-series "Criminal Macabre" from Dark Horse Entertainment. The story centers around a supernatural detective who doubles as hitman, taking out all the vampires, ghosts and other unsavory monsters who live among humans, hiding in the shadows by day and emerging at night. "30 Days of Night" creator Steve Niles penned the comic and Kyle Ward has been set to adapt the script. Neal Moritz and Mike Richardson will produce.

 

 

 

Case 39:

A horror film starring Renée Zellweger as family services social worker Emily Jenkins. Emily thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case, troubled 10-year old Lilith Sullivan (Jodelle Ferland). Emily's worst fears are confirmed when the parents try to k*ll Lilith, their only daughter. Emily saves her and decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.

Underworld 4 (3-D):

Sony Screen Gems must have been happy with the whopping $91m worldwide box office for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, their prequel to the vampires vs werewolf franchise created by Len Wiseman back in 2003, as the studio is moving forward with a fourth film aimed to hit theaters in January 2011. To continue a smart trend in Hollywood, they also write that the fourth film will be arriving in theaters in 3-D. No word on if Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra, Kate Beckinsale or Scott Speedman will return to the franchise, but it's probably safe to say Patrick Tatopoulos' company will be behind the FX again.

Shazam!:

Actor-turned-scribe Bill Birch is set to pen the script for the reboot of comic book superhero "Shazam!" for Warner Brothers Pictures says the trades. DC Comics regular Geoff Johns will co-write the script featuring Captain Marvel, teenager Billy Batson who becomes the powerful being when uttering the titular word.

 

The project, previously setup at New Line, has had difficulty getting made with the likes of William Goldman, Joel Cohen, Alec Sokolow and John August all having a go at the script. Peter Segal ("Get Smart") remains attached to direct and produce. Michael Ewing also produces.

 

 

 

Bourne 4:

Josh Zetumer ("The Infiltrator," "Dune") is set to pen the fourth installment of Universal's "Bourne" movie series. "The Bourne Ultimatum" scribe George Nolfi initially returned to pen the fourth script but is now no longer available for further work due to his commitment to adapt the Philip K. Dick short story "The Adjustment Bureau". Universal has hired Zetumer to write a new script and upon submission, either his script will be used or integrated with Nolfi's effort. Either way the hope is once Nolfi is finished working on 'Adjustment', he'll come back to polish what ever the studio moves forward with.. The studio aims to make the next "Bourne" part of its 2011 release slate,

 

 

 

The Expendables:

Bruce Willis lets slip that he will cameo in Sylvester Stallone's action mercenary feature "The Expendables". Even more revealing is that he, Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger - three of the five biggest action stars of the 80's - will be on screen together.

 

 

 

Oobermind:

Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell and Jonah Hill have joined Tina Fey in the 3-D animated Dreamworks movie, Oobermind. Ferrell replaces Robert Downey Jr., who had to leave the movie due to scheduling conflicts. Ferrell will voice the lead villain, Oobermind, who defeats Metro Man (Pitt) and subsequently finds life to be boring without an adversary. Oobermind then creates a new rival, Titan (Hill), who also wants to be a bad guy. This forces Ooberman to switch sides. Tina Fey will voice a reporter who tries to make sense of the city’s confusing superhero situation. Ooberman is scheduled to be in theatres on November 5, 2010.

 

 

 

Priest:

Karl Urban has signed on to play the villain in the post-apocalyptic horror thriller "Priest" for Screen Gems. Based on the TokyoPop comic, the story is set in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest and vampire fighter who teams with a sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and warrior priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Urban plays Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires. Scott Stewart helms from a script by Cory Goodman. Filming kicks off next week in Los Angeles.

 

 

 

Sucker Punch:

"Mad Men" star Jon Hamm has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. Hamm joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Carla Gugino in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' 1950s-set tale of a girl (Browning) confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape. The film has a release date of March 25, 2011.

 

 

 

The Girl With the Red Riding Hood:

Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight," "Thirteen") has signed on to direct the werewolf film "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood" for Appian Way. Penned by David Johnson, the story is described as a gothic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story with a teenage love triangle at its center. Warner Bros. Pictures, where Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way has a first-look deal, will distribute.

 

 

 

The Wolfman (remake):

Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, "The Wolfman" brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. After returning home to his English village, Larry Talbot gets attacked by a werewolf in the forest. Although he kills the beast, Larry realizes he has received a bite during the struggle -- a bite that passes along the monster's curse to him. Maleva, the gypsy mother of the dead wolfman, comes to Larry's aid and tells him that he too will now transform into a werewolf each time there's a full moon. While the story sounds ridiculous to Larry, he starts to believe it once more brutal killings occur in the village. Neither his father, Sir John Talbot, nor the woman Larry loves are willing to believe the truth... but soon they're forced to confront the nature of Larry's curse as well.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4:

Hollywood-Elsewhere.com is reporting that a “connected” person has informed them that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 will revolve around Captain Jack Sparrow and other villianous groups of men and women searching for the Fountain of Youth. The website is also reporting that there will be “some kind of Captain Nemo-type villain utilizing new-style technology“.

 

 

 

Hancock 2:

Sony has hired "The Shield" writers Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write Hancock 2 for the studio. The original producing team is expected to return, although it hasn't been confirmed whether director Peter Berg will be back to helm this one.

 

 

 

XXX: The Return of Xander Cage

Ericson Core (Invincible) will direct XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Columbia Pictures' third installment in the franchise. Neal Moritz and Joe Roth are producing. Vin Diesel is reprising the role he originated in the 2002 movie, directed by Rob Cohen. Diesel and Cohen skipped the 2005 sequel, XXX: State of the Union, which starred Ice Cube and was directed by Lee Tamahori.

 

Core, a cinematographer-turned-director, worked as DP on Diesel's 2001 film The Fast and the Furious. John Brancato and Michael Ferris (Terminator Salvation) wrote the script for "Xander Cage." It involves Cage's return to the National Security Agency after an eight-year absence. Richard Wilkes, who wrote the original movie, did a recent polish. The studio aims to roll cameras early next year.

 

 

 

Spawn 2:

"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane says that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character. "The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary" says McFarlane. He adds that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'The Departed'." New Line released a widely panned live-action film in 1997 starring Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen.

 

 

 

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps

Susan Sarandon is the latest to join the cast of Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps for 20th Century Fox and set for release on April 23, 2010. Sarandon joins Michael Douglas who returns as Gordon Gekko from the 1987 original as well as Shia LaBeouf, Frank Langella and Carey Mulligan with the casting of Josh Brolin as the film's villain still in question. Sarandon will play the mother of a young Wall Street trader (LaBeouf) who falls under the seductive influence of Gordon Gekko. Production is set to begin next month in New York from Allan Loeb's script.

 

 

 

The Next Three Days:

Elizabeth Banks to star opposite Russell Crowe in the Paul Haggis-directed movie The Next Three Days. It is a remake of the 2008 French film “Pour Elle” in which Diane Kruger played the Banks role. Crowe will play a teacher who comes up with a plan to free his wife from prison after she is convicted of a murder she says she did not commit. Filming is scheduled to begin in September in Pittsburgh.

 

 

 

John Carter of Mars:

Samantha Morton, Dominic West and Polly Walker have joined the cast of Disney’s John Carter of Mars. The movie, an adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series, follows the adventures of a Civil War veteran who is mysteriously transported to a war-torn planet Mars. Taylor Kitsch (Riggins on “Friday Night Lights”) stars as the title character. Morton plays Sola, the daughter of Dafoe’s Tars Tarkas, who must hide her softer side from her warmongering race. West plays Sab Than, prince of the Zodangans who believes he is entitled to rule Mars. Walker plays Sarkoja, a merciless, tyrannical Thark. Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe also star. Andrew Stanton will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Andrews. Production is looking to begin early next year.

 

 

 

Priest:

Karl Urban has signed on to play the villain in the post-apocalyptic horror thriller "Priest" for Screen Gems. Based on the TokyoPop comic, the story is set in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest and vampire fighter who teams with a sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and warrior priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Urban plays Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires. Scott Stewart helms from a script by Cory Goodman. Filming kicks off next week in Los Angeles.

 

 

 

Burke and Hare:

Simon Pegg has joined the cast of a new film John Landis is directing about the sinister tale of Burke and Hare. The Burke and Hare murders, also known as the West Port murders, were serial murders perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their 17 victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection.

 

 

 

The Shock Labyrinth:

The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu is currently working on his latest project, called The Shock Labyrinth, which according to reports will be distributed in 3-D. The film's story "takes place in a theme park near Mount Fuji and follows a group of teens dealing with the shocking return of a friend they had assumed to be dead." It will be represented in international markets by Fortissimo Films and is being produced by Japan's Asmik Ace.

Bad Boys 3:

Peter Craig has been hired to write the screenplay for Bad Boys 3. This despite the fact that the main players from the first two movies, including director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, have yet to commit to returning for a third installment. All the parties have expressed some interest in the past in returning but not surprisingly, the one big issue could be money.

 

The Bad Boys movies starred Smith as Mike Lowrey and Lawrence as Marcus Burnett, two Miami narcotics detectives who found themselves busting up some kind of major conspiracy and thwarting some kind of major drug trade.

 

 

 

Fantastic Four 3:

While Disney lays down a $4 billion bet on the future of Marvel's superheroes, 20th Century Fox has already begun overhauling one of its big Marvel franchises, "Fantastic Four," to take the property beyond the two films already made.Akiva Goldsman has been hired to oversee the reboot as producer. Michael Green, the co-exec producer of TV's "Heroes" who co-wrote "Green Lantern," will write the script for the new "Fantastic Four." It is not clear if Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Ioan Gruffudd will return for another movie.

 

 

 

Smurfs:

The first image of a CGI Smurf from Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming film The Smurfs has made its way online, courtesy of PVC Blue. Raja Gosnell directs the 3-D and CG-animated film which opens in theaters on December 17, 2010. "The Smurfs" originated in 1958 as a Belgian comic strip from Peyo (Pierre) Culliford.

Rambo 5:

Nu Image/Millennium Films is moving forward with a fifth installment in the Rambo movie franchise. Sylvester Stallone will return to star and direct. The upcoming project's storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Production will start in the spring.

 

 

 

Drive Angry 3-D:

Nicolas Cage is getting the 3D treatment. The actor has signed to star in "Drive Angry," a revenge action movie that Patrick Lussier will direct for Nu Image/Millenium Films. Michael De Luca is producing. Written by Lussier and Todd Farmer, the story centers on a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.

 

 

 

Wedding Banned:

Robin Williams is getting on one knee for "Wedding Banned," a romantic comedy for Touchstone. The project, being produced by Mandeville's David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, has no director attached. Nicole Rocklin and Blye Faust are also producing. "Banned" centers on a long-divorced couple who kidnap their daughter on her wedding day to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did. The divorced parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom.

 

 

 

Magdalena:

Holly Brix, the scribe adapting supernatural hero comic "Magdalena" into a live action feature, tells MTV that the film will be a fusion of straight up action with a dash of "Da Vinci Code"-esque religious overtones. The story follows Patience (Jenna Dewan) a descendent of Mary Magdalene who fights demons and criminals and atheists using supernatural powers. Luke Goss also stars as her mentor Kristoff who will play a key part in the film.

 

 

 

Mother's Day (remake):

Rebecca De Mornay ("The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," "Risky Business") will headline the remake of the Troma cult 1980's horror film "Mother's Day". Jamie King, Shawn Ashmore, Tony Nappo, Alexa Vega, Lisa Marcos, Briana Evigan and Deborah Ann Woll also star. The filmmakers are aiming for a release in April, timed to take advantage of Mother's Day on May 9.

 

The story follows a family of villains, led by a sadistic mother (De Mornay), who return to their former home and terrorize the new owners and their guests. Hunks Matt O'Leary ("Brick") and Patrick Flueger (TV's "The 4400") are set to play the sons of the mother.

 

 

 

Dead Man:

Nikolaj Arcel (Island of Lost Souls ) is looking to direct Dead Man, a Crow-esque adaptation for Warner Bros. Pictures. Guillermo del Toro is set to produce the pic that follows a a circus tightrope walker who is murdered and returns as a ghost with the ability to inhabit the bodies if others in order to find his killer.

 

 

 

The Descent: Part 2

In the movie, the sole survivor from the first film, Sarah, is forced to go back to the caves to find her friends by a Sheriff who does not believe her story that everyone was killed by monsters. Part 2 will be directed by Jon Harris in his directorial debut. Harris was an editor for The Descent, which was directed by Neil Marshall. Marshall is now the executive producer of The Descent: Part 2.

The Blob (remake):

Rob Zombie plans to write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 classic The Blob. roduction of the movie will begin next spring. The original is the movie credited for launching the career of silver screen legend Steve McQueen. The story centered on an unidentified object that crashed on earth and contained a red blob-like substance that absorbed humans and grew exponentially.

 

 

 

Halloween 3-D:

Horror fans can expect a third installment of Halloween next summer, with the The LA Times reporting that a 3-D sequel is in the works. Producer Bob Weinstein also announced that Rob Zombie, who directed the first two installments of the rebooted franchise, will not return for part three - entitled (appropriately enough) Halloween 3-D. The studio is apparently in negotiation with an as-yet-unnamed director who has experience in horror and can bring a 'different take' to the franchise.

Akira:

A remake announced early last year may finally be moving forward. Screenwriters Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus (Iron Man) have come aboard to write the Akira remake. The remake was announced in February 2008, but there has been nothing new reported on the film since then. News has been slim on the film because the writers have been trying to perfect the script, and the writing duo are about to hand in their script in the near future. It was also confirmed that the story was still to be set in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan in the near future. If the script meets approval, it was said that the film could go into production next year for a 2011 tentpole release. We'll keep you posted as soon as more information is known on the film.

 

 

 

The Green Hornet:

A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up) as the vigilante crime-fighter. The film is set for release December 17, 2010. In addition to Rogen, the film also stars Taiwanese actor-pop star Jay Chou as Kato, Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels, What Happens in Vegas), Edward James Olmos (“Battlestar Galactica”), David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie).

 

 

 

The A-Team:

Former UFC world light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is now locked in to portray Sgt. "B.A." Baracus in Fox's upcoming film remake of 80's TV series classic "The A-Team" according to The Vancouver Sun. Made famous by Mr. T in the series, Jackson arrived in Vancouver on Friday to begin filming the role on the production that will shoot over the next six weeks.

 

Jackson joins Bradley Cooper as Face, Liam Neeson as Hannibal, and a still as yet undisclosed star as 'Howling Mad' Murdock, in the Joe Carnahan-directed film which 20th Century Fox is set to release on June 11, 2010.

 

 

 

Battle: Los Angeles

R&B singer Ne-Yo, "Transformers" latino spunk Ramon Rodriguez, OC & Texas Chainsaw blond stud Taylor Handley and "Lincoln Heights" star Cory Hardrict have all joined the cast of sci-fi war feature "Battle: Los Angeles" for Sony Picture.

 

The story, about a marine platoon facing off an alien invasion of the City of Angels, stars aron Eckhart as the leader of the group trying to rescue people trapped in a community center. Ne-Yo, Rodriguez, Handley and Hardrict will all play members of the platoon. Jadin Gould, Bryce Cass and Joey King will play kids trapped in said center. Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Pena also star. Jonathan Liebesman is directing and shooting kicks off this week in Shreveport, Louisiana.

 

 

 

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps

The cast includes Shia LaBeouf as Jake Moore, a young trader who is the fiancé of Gekko’s daughter, played by Carey Mulligan; Josh Brolin as the head of an investment bank; Frank Langella as Jake’s mentor; and Susan Sarandon as Jake’s mother. Charlie Sheen, who played the central role of Bud Fox, a young trader, in the original, will make a cameo in the sequel. Shooting for the film, which will be released by 20th Century Fox next April, begins this week in New York.

 

 

 

Halloween 3D:

Patrick Lussier ("My Bloody Valentine 3-D") is in talks to write and direct the recently-announced "Halloween 3D" for Dimension Films. The film, which would continue the story of serial killer Michael Myers, would aim for a release next Summer. The short turnaround time was a key reason why the franchise's current helmer Rob Zombie will not be returning to the director's chair.

 

 

 

Suspiria (remake):

David Gordon Green’s remake of Suspiria will begin shooting next year. This consciousness-altering bit of movie news was discovered by The Playlist. Green, who has managed to maintain his indie cred (Snow Angels) and establish box office pull and mainstream cachet (Pineapple Express)

 

In the original Suzy Banyon, a young American ballet dancer who arrives at a prestigious European dance academy run by the mysterious Madame Blanc and Miss Tanner. But when a series of bizarre incidents and horrific crimes turn the school into a waking nightmare of the damned, Suzy must escape the academy's unspeakable secret of supernatural evil.

 

 

 

Resident Evil 5:

While Sony Screen Gems is prepping for Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, the 3D sequel slated to arrive in theaters August 27, 2010, Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively (and confirmed) that the studio is already looking forward to the fifth film. While Milla Jovovich is confirmed for Afterlife, it's got to be getting expensive and (increasingly) difficult to keep her onboard, even though she is married to producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Instead of moving forward with the ongoing story, the studio is planning a quasi-reboot, which is tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins. While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.

 

 

 

30 Days of Night: Dark Days

Ben Ketai has been tapped to direct 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, a story from both Steve Niles and Ketai. Shooting is already slated to begin this October in Vancouver, Canada. Stella Oleson returns as the lead character, but she will be recast (Melissa George toplined the first film). In the sequel, Stella joins a group of vampire hunters in order to get revenge on Lilith - the vamp responsible for the attack on her Alaska town. Ketai wrote directed the web series "30 Days of Night: Blood Trails" and "30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust."

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 : On Stranger Tides

At the D23 Disney Fan Expo, Walt Disney Studios unveiled the logo/title for the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Johnny Depp, will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

 

Disney is on the verge of putting "Chicago" and "Nine" director Rob Marshall as the director of a fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” a move that puts the film on track for a 2010 production start, with Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow.

 

There hasn’t been a director at the helm of the pirate ship since April, when Gore Verbinski stepped out to focus on a movie version of the vidgame “Bioshock” for Universal (Daily Variety, April 7, 2009). Though that film’s lost some momentum, Verbinski has moved on to other directing and producing projects.

 

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have been meeting with a number of directors in recent weeks, because the studio wants to pull the “Pirates” film together and have Depp star in it before he does “The Lone Ranger” for the producer and the studio. While Marshall’s involvement wasn’t immediately confirmed, sources said things look good enough that the studio has begun casting new characters that will appear in the picture.
