The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)

40-year-old Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) has done quite a few things in his life. He's got a cushy job stamping invoices at an electronics superstore, a nice apartment with a proud collection of action figures and comic books, good friends, a nice attitude. But there's just one little thing he hasn't quite gotten around to doing yet--something most people have done by his age. Andy's never, ever, ever had sex. His friends at the store consider it their duty to help, but nothing proves effective enough until he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year-old mother of three. Andy's friends are psyched by the possibility that "it" may finally happen...until they hear that Andy and Trish have begun their relationship based on a mutual no-sex policy.

Halo Targeted for Summer 2007

Source: Variety August 23, 2005

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures have closed their deal to make a movie based on Microsoft's hit videogame Halo, with plans for a tentpole release in the summer of 2007. The two studios will pay Microsoft $5 million against 10% of the gross.

Universal will oversee the production and is handling domestic distribution, while Fox will take foreign distribution. The studios will split revenues 50/50 out of a shared pot, adds the trade.

Former Columbia president Peter Schlessel, who served as a Hollywood liaison for Microsoft, is producing. 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland was paid $1 million by Microsoft to write a script that met its approval. He'll now do a rewrite with studio notes, after which Universal will go out to directors.

The film is based on the game franchise which has grossed $600 million.

Also, here are interviews on SUPERMAN RETURNS writers & co-writers. Included are some clips from the movie too.

Charlotte's Web:

One of the most anticipated kids films of 2006 will no doubt be the adaptation of EB White's classic story CHARLOTTE'S WEB. Dakota Fanning stars in the film, which features a mix of live-action and CGI. While Wilbur the pig is played by a real pig, both Charlotte the spider (voiced by Julia Roberts) and Templeton the rat (Steve Buscemi) are going to be created entirely inside a computer. In addition to Roberts and Buscemi, a bevy of celebs are lending their voices to the film including Oprah Winfrey, John Cleese, Thomas Haden Church, Andre 3000, Cedric the Entertainer, Kathy Bates and Robert Redford. CHARLOTTE'S WEB is scheduled for a June 23, 2006 release.

Old School 2:

Despite not having a commitment from any of the principal actors from the first film, DreamWorks has greenlit a sequel to one of their biggest hits OLD SCHOOL. Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong will return to direct and write the film respectively. There had, obviously, been talks about an OLD SCHOOL sequel ever since the original film was a box-office success but development seemed to go south when Phillips and DreamWorks battled in 2004. Getting back Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell, two of which command double-digit salaries, could be expensive for the studio.

Spawn Animation is back:

Fans of the Todd McFarlane comic book, toyline, movie and animated series will be happy to know that Spawn is back- in a big way! IDT Entertainment and Todd McFarlane Productions has announced an incredible lineup of Hollywood talent providing voices for the characters featured in the return of “Todd McFarlane’s Spawn Animation”, including Keith David returning in the lead character voice role of Spawn.

Spawn is the story of a highly decorated U.S soldier, brutally executed by his own men. Reborn as a creature from hell, he fights a constant battle between the forces of good and evil. The first Spawn series aired on HBO from 1997 through 1999 and won two Emmy awards. Spawn, one of the world's best-selling comic books with hundreds of millions sold worldwide has also been the subject of a live-action feature film released in 1997. Distributed by New Line Cinema, the movie version of Spawn has grossed over $100 million internationally.

Fan reaction to the release of the first Spawn: Animation teaser trailer, which debuted at the 2005 San Diego Comic-Con, has been overwhelmingly positive. To view the trailer click here

"EVAN ALMIGHTY"

A while back Universal hatched a concept for a sequel to their highly successful Jim Carrey flick BRUCE ALMIGHTY. The concept would have Jim's Bruce character again called upon by God, this time to build an ark to save animals from an upcoming flood. Only Carrey wasn't interested in returning. So unfortunately the studio went out and threw a bunch of cash at Steve Carell to reprise his role as Bruce's dicky co-worker Evan Baxter and renamed the film EVAN ALMIGHTY. For a starring role in ALMIGHTY, Carell is expected to clear over $5 million for his role in the film. While Carrey and Jennifer Aniston won't be returning, the studio is in talks with Morgan Freeman to reprise his role as God in the film.

Used Guys:

The long-in-development comedy USED GUYS may have finally be taking a step towards reality courtesy of Jim Carrey. Ben Stiller and director Jay Roach (MEET THE PARENTS) have been plotting the pic since the original since early 2002 but hasn't been able to get off the ground. Carrey is now in talks to co-star with Stiller in the film, which has given the project new life at Fox. GUYS would follow Stiller and Carrey as two "pleasure clones" in a society where women rule the Earth and men are obsolete and have been replaced by these clones. The duo will play an outdated model of clone who have been replaced by newer models with better listening and lovemaking skills. Realizing their fate, they begin a search for a mythical refuge known as Mantopia. Yes, Mantopia. The film will reunite Carrey and Stiller who worked together on THE CABLE GUY. It would be Stiller's third film with Roach after both MEET THE... films.

Mission Impossible 3 news:

Billy Crudup has signed on for a role in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3. Billy is currently working on THE GOOD SHEPHERD with Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie and will begin work on M:I3 later this month.

Hollow Man 2:

Sony Pictures’ HOLLOW MAN 2 began shooting in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago, with Christian (HEATHERS) Slater, Laura Regan (from THEY and MY LITTLE EYE) and William (SLITHER) MacDonald toplining. In the sequel, directed by Claudio Fäh from a script by Joel Soisson. Slater stars as a volunteer soldier/assassin who goes mad after he turns invisible. But unlike in the first film directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Kevin Bacon, the latest Hollow Man faces an invisible protagonist this time, a cop trying to protect the story’s heroine (Regan).

“Yes, there are two Hollow Men, hence the title,” a source close to the production said. “One is good and the other evil, and they duke it out. The fight scenes are awesome.”

As before, the invisibility experiments affect the subjects both mentally and physically, though now, the characters become mutated once they reappear. HOLLOW MAN 2 will be shooting for a total of 29 days. A theatrical release will be considered after the film wraps
