D' ANOTHERS Premiere Night on July 26 at ABS-CBN Studio 1

 

Star Cinema’s latest film, the thriller-spoof D’ Anothers, "is just what we need in tension-filled times," says film director Joyce Bernal. In the comedy, she reunites with the promising funnyman Vhong Navarro, whom she first directed two years ago in another musical comedy, Mr. Suave.

 

"Everybody needs a good laugh, something to relieve stress," Bernal adds, attesting to the humor power of her new film.

 

In the movie, Vhong plays Jesus Resurrection, tagged as The One who is supposed to serve as a medium for restless ghosts and souls overcrowding a mansion he inherited.

 

According to folklores, a portal that opens to the other world can be found in Resurrection’s haunted mansion every half a century. As The One, he helps the ghosts rise to a higher level. Weaved in the scenes are hilarious spoofs to Japanese thriller The Ring and the local horror flick Feng Shui, as well as to Bata, Bata: Paano Ka Ginawa and foreign films The Matrix and 8 Mile.

 

"It’s the most hilarious, most riotous and wackiest movie I’ve ever done," says Bernal, who has directed the likes of Aga Muhlach and Regine Velasquez in music-romance, and Judy Ann Santos and Robin Padilla in action-comedy-romance films.

 

The screenplay is written by Raymond Lee and Adolfo Alix Jr., with additional scenes and dialogues by John Paul Abellera, Jade Francis Castro and Abigail Copuyoc.

 

Besides Navarro, the other members of the cast are Toni Gonzaga as Maan Tuken, Jhong Hillario as Gorio, Joross Gamboa as Xavier, Roxanne Guinoo as Titay, John Prats as JC, Pokwang as Aruray "Balat" Paclayon, Ned Naig as Rachel, Archie Alemania as Jograd, Mura as Vic, Tado as Atty. Reposo, Michelle Madrigal as Mayumi and Joshua Docareza as Judas. Other cast members are Jaime Fabregas, Arlene Muhlach and Bella Flores.

 

D’ Anothers opens nationwide on July 27.

With the TRANSFORMERS movie seemingly ready for a 2007 release, it was only a matter of time before someone else tried to pick up some its 80s compatriots. That time is now as the plan to get a VOLTRON movie underway was announced today. Producer Mark Gordon (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) has teamed with pop music producer and N.E.R.D. member Pharrell Williams to bring the cartoon and toy hit to screens.

Spider-man 3 news:

 

The main villain played by Thomas Hayden Church in the upcoming sequel will, in fact, be The Chameleon and not the previously mentioned Sandman. Church plays Dmitri Smerdyakov, who goes by false name Dr. Turner at Peter's college. The Chameleon also has a brother in this film, which will set up Kraven the Hunter for a future sequel.

There are rumors that the villain Thomas Hayden Church will be playing in SPIDER-MAN 3 is the Chameleon and not Sandman as everybody had thought. Seeing as how it's been established that Topher Grace will also be playing a villain, we were all left to speculate who that villain is. Well, Comic Book Resources recently revealed that the villain is none other than - are you ready for this? - Venom!

Garth over at Dark Horizons recently put up an interesting update on Marvel's upcoming projects from the recent Slate Report of its 2nd Quarter.

 

-Jigsaw may be the next villain in the PUNISHER sequel. The tentative subtitle for the sequel is WAR ZONE.

-The director for the feature adaptation of NAMOR is Chris Columbus with no one cast as the lead

-IRON MAN has officially been placed on hiatus possibly to allow for Tom Cruise to star

-Director John Singleton may be looking to Tyrese Gibson to take the lead role in LUKE CAGE.

-Lee Tamarohi is no longer directing DEATHLOK with the reason for his departure unknown

-According to Arad, THOR will be the LORD OF THE RINGS of comic book films.

Latest X-Men 3 updates:

 

In terms of the story, with Ratner on board, fans can expect a love story between Storm and Wolverine, at least three mutant deaths and a theme that revolves around a "mutant cure" developed by Warren Worthington to cure his son-- the high-flying Angel.

 

According to producer Avi Arad, if he "were a betting man....yes, you will see Phoenix in this movie."

 

Halle Berry is back as Storm and fans can expect a larger role she's been asking for since the first film.

 

Hugh Jackman is also a producer on this film

 

Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler character will not be back

 

The new mutants include Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Kitty Pryde, Angel and Gambit-- not clear whether or not the latter character would be on Xavier or Magneto's side

 

All of the new characters will have shortened origin arcs or retellings, but the biggest secret origin will lie within the current roster: what Xavier did to Jean Grey the first time they met (and why Magneto was there), as well as the history between Juggernaut and Xavier.

The current script does "reportedly" contain a short scene of Iceman and Kitty Pryde training in a World War II scenario inside the X-Men's famed training facility called the Danger Room (it can recreate any environment).

 

Arad says that fans "may" see more Colussus, but Daniel Cudmore (the actor who portrayed him in X2) may not be cut out for the bigger role.

 

Release date: Memorial Day weekend 2006. Begins shooting: August 2005.

 

The film will not be rated R, it will be rated PG-13, just like X-2

 

Ironic note: director Bryan Singer left X3 to cover SUPERMAN RETURNS, while director Brett Ratner at one point was going to direct SUPERMAN RETURNS, but is now helming X3.

Tom Cruise as IRON MAN? hmmm mejo di yata bagay..not a good idea

 

Anyways, I'm looking forward on seeing Kingkong, Harry Potter, my fave Spider-Man3, and tuloy na talaga ang Iron Man, yun din, kahit si Tom cruise ang gaganap na Tony Stark...

 

But what seems to be my biggest interest right now is catching X-Men 3. With all the new mutants to see in the movie, it really does seem a very good film. With Beast, Angel, Gambit, Juggernaut... promised bigger roles of Colossus, Ice-Man and Pyro... and meron pa daw mejo history ang mga new mutants na to.. hmmm..wow... sana 2006 na..
