LA Lakers

Lakers suffered the worst defeat in franchise history.

Maybe this data that I copied from RealGM about future draft picks will dictate the fortune of the Lakers for this year's draft.

Paki correct na lang ako pero baka target ng Lakers ang top 3 sa lottery.

2017 first round draft pick to Philadelphia
L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Philadelphia (via Phoenix) protected for selections 1-3 in 2017 and unprotected in 2018 [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012; Milwaukee-Philadelphia-Phoenix, 2/19/2015]

Excerpt from David Aldridge article about the recent struggle of the Lakers:

"The Lakers will keep their 2017 first-round pick, in a Draft that’s going to be full of potential impact players, if they finish with a bottom-three record this season. Otherwise, the pick will go to the Philadelphia 76ers, finalizing the Lakers’ Draft pick commitments from the Steve Nash trade in 2012 (the 76ers got the rights to the pick from Phoenix in the three-team trade in 2015 with Milwaukee that sent Brandon Knight from the Bucks to the Suns, and Michael Carter-Williams from the Sixers to Milwaukee).

There’s additional risk to the Lakers for doing well this season.

If the Lakers have to give their 2017 first-round pick to Philly, they’ll also have to give their 2019 first-round pick to Orlando, a final payment for the deal that sent center Andrew Bynum to Philly in 2012 -- a four-team deal with the Nuggets and Magic that brought Dwight Howard from Orlando to Los Angeles. But if L.A. can keep its 2017 first, it can satisfy its obligation to the Magic by giving Orlando second-round picks in ‘17 and ‘18, and keep the ‘19 first-rounder."

One can only hope that the young core can develop in the same way that the Thunder and the Warriors did. Not every team can be like the Spurs.

If they develop in the way that everyone hopes that they will then the lakers can be set for the future.

The current standings show that they are still on pace to retain the pick... Unless, some other team except Brooklyn, Phoenix or Lakers end up with the 1st pick in the lottery...

It'll all still depends on the ping pong balls. It's still not a guaranteed pick. Tanking would just means more ping pong balls and high percentage of getting the pick. Either way, the Lakers guaranteed their team at least a first round pick via trade with Houston.

Update: the Lakers are currently the second worst team behind the Nets... If this remains the same until the end of the season, the first round pick will remain with the Lakers...

you could have the worst record in the NBA and still not end up with the 1st pick of the draft.. it'll all depends on how the ping pong balls land. This isn't the NFL where a worst record automatically means 1st pick in the draft. Just ask the Cavs a few years back. They ended up with the first pick despite not having the worst record.

Ok... What I'm referring here is the Lakers will retain their top 3 protected pick and will not go to another team... What matters here is they will get a high pick regardless of 1st 2nd and 3rd... Boston will likely get the better pick here either the top or the 2nd... The Lakers are not expecting the top pick anyway... On this loaded draft according to experts, retaining the pick is the priority it doesn't matter if it goes to the 3rd... If the pick becomes 4th, say goodbye to the pick... Edited by Basket Case
