South China/West Philippine Sea

The President himself also stated many times that :

"Now it not the right time" and

"What do you want me to do? Go to war? We cannot defeat them."

It makes it seem like the DFA is lying to the public to appease us.

Which one among those statement is not true?

Now is not the right time for military confrontation, US style. We are still building up our economy and our external defense capability. We should work it out such that we can handle our sovereignty issues without relying on the US military.

Did he at any time say that we did not file a protest?

using that logic how come:

Liwanagin mo, pwede ba tayo maging neutral since may independent foreign policy tayo.

Vietnam has been very effective in non-military confrontation against the Chinese. The clashes were done by Vietnamese fishermen, ramming their fishing boats against the huge Chinese drilling ships. Non-combatants. But harrassing, nontheless.

It would have been exciting if we followed Vietnam's lead.

But then again, if the Chinese retaliated violently against the unarmed fishermen, can our military back up our civilian activists?

Vietnam think they can.

Can we?

From our experience with what happened during Abnoy's term, when we lost control over Scarborough Shoal and Mischief Reef, tells me we have more work to do first before acting macho. For the meantime, we offer friendship and diplomacy.

There you go parroting Duterte. Who said anything about military confrontation? All we are asking for is a formal protest not that silent crap that the DFA supposedly has been filing.

What good is a protest when its only our heads of state and China's that knows about it? The Filipino people dont know about it. The Chinese people dont know about it. Our allies dont know about it. The whole world doesnt know about it.

In the eyes of the world, we are silent and we agree to what China is doing to us. So if and when the time comes and we ask for the help of the international community, guess what they are going to say? "Eh ginusto niyo yan eh!"

I'm not parroting duterte. I've been saying the same thing even before Duterte became President.

My stand is this:

We take it silently. Meanwhile, we build up our strength, economically and militarily.

We will move when we are strong enough to face them on our own without the US, who is also using the same predicament we are in to keep us subservient to them.

Right now, no amount of noise and bravado will deter China from pursuing its plans.

Have you been following what Vietnam has been doing?

They are facing China on their own. Without ASEAN's help. Without USA's help.

But they have a credible military clout to back up their stand.

Darating din tayo dyan. It will come when you yourself has come to believe that we are strong enough to face them on our own. It's up to you.

That's what the Filipinos have been doing with the Great Uncle Sam.

What does that make you?

Curious as to why you have animosity towards the US. They have been our ally for decades. They have help us through many grants and donations. Whenever we have a calamity, they are one of the biggest contributors for aid. They provide assistance when we fight insurgency. They back us up with our claim in the West Philippine Sea. etc... Why the animosity?

I have no animosity towards the US. Half of my family lives there as American citizens.

The more you know about the history of our relationship with the United Sates, the more you will understand.

Everything they gave us have a corresponding expected return to further their own interests.

Just as China expects to gain from all the help they give us.

I understand why the US do what they're doing. Just as I understand why China do what it does.

But what is more important is what we Filipinos should do independently of the two Super Powers.

Do we take sides and become pawns in their power conflicts?

Or do we put our own interest first?

only that vietnam has never allowed china to build any island in its claimed territory from day 1.

unlike us, we are allowing the building of bases and communities in our claimed territory

by the time we are "ready" for them, they will be much much more ready that us.

you think vietnam's military (even if better than ours) can win against china?

For Duterte and the DDS, the only way to solve this is either to let China do what it wants in the WPS freely... or go to war. For them, there's no middle ground (diplomacy).

...and regarding their silent protest? Is that like cursing under your breath?

My post that you quoted speaks for itself.

Each move the Philippines and Vietnam make are calculated moves, taking into consideration the fact that neither country can ever hope to win a shooting war vs. China. But based on history, we will reach a point in the future where we can shake off their dominance over us.

Neither Is the Philippines "allowing" China to build bases in contested territories. China does it because it can, not because it was allowed to. I'm surprised that you, as a lawyer, cannot grasp the concept that a victim does not have to "allow" the perpetrator to commit his crime.

Fact check:

China seized Woody Island and Duncan Island in the Paracels from Vietnam.

The two islands have been vastly expanded through reclamation and now have airports capable of handling long range fighters and bombers.
