pussycatdoll
i usually just try to sleep off my migraines, but if i can't, i try to take the lowest drug dosage i can, mainly because i don't like bombarding my body with drugs. i usually try medicol or 250mg of dolfenol, and if it persists, i just try to ignore the pain. pag talagang di ko na kaya, i up my medication. i had a migraine attack yesterday afternoon that lasted until around 2pm today. i even woke up whimpering from the pain at 4:30am. hay, i hate getting migraines. Green Lantern
I have had patients use Sumatriptan, Mefenamic Acid, Acetyl Salycylic Acid, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, and even Tramadol but in my experience, I have seen good results with a drug sold in the U.K. called Migraleve - which is actually 500mg of Paracetamol and 8mg of Codeine. I don't know if you can purchase something like this in the Philippines. I have seen a comprable drug in Australia which has 500mg of Paracetamol and 10mg of Codeine. These two drugs act synergistically to produce a much better level of analgesia than when taken seperately. Check with your local GP, he may be able to give you a prescription for this. lml_sete
Nice thread very imformative, im also having troubles with high blood pressure for a weeks now i thought it's just an ordinary headache but due to persistent headcahe and stiff neck plus dizziness i decided to go for check up....the damn doctor and nurse gladly says its just mild headache and given me pain reliever...but when i ask for the BP the result is 190/40 and they both agreed its normal "what the heck" i confonted them saying it's not normal but since i have limited knowledge when it comes to med... i agreed, but adopting to the message posted 190/40 is the early stage of hypertension which bothers me most is there any medecine to suppress HB...anyone? I think i better change my eating habit too coz most of the time i eaten fatty and oily foods which rich in cholesterol the only thing is can't avoid eating those stuffs since it's been a long time that our caterer serve those kind of meals. Kudos to the expert Quote Link to comment
ChiliMac
i has a bad case of headache last year around july, i was at work doing nothing strenous and all of a sudden i felt a throbbing pain inside my head, parang buhay sya and sumasabay sa pulse mo. after that nagpawis ako ng malamig and i saw stars? parang after image ng flash sa camera. then i went to the doctor and they check my blood pressure and it was 140/100 taas nga, they gave me calcibloc ba yon? anyways when i told the doctor what happened sabi nya Migraine raw, so ayun tigil yosi, softdrinks and coffee and monitor ko raw kung babalik kung uminom ako ng pinagbabawal sa akin. ej_qn
Buti wala pa akong nae-experience na ganyan except if I have a hangover or I didn't sleep at all. Just take a dip in a bathtub with luke warm water, not too hot coz that'll elivate the pain kaya masakit ang ulo mo at nararamdaman mo throbbing yung head mo eh papaano pa kaya kung mainit talaga na tubig odi mapra-praning ka sa saket. That happened to me a lotta times pag na jet lag ako I forgetfully dip myself in hot water kaya throbbing talaga yung ulo ko. Don't take pain killers too much kasi once nasanay na yung body mo at may dumating na time na talagang masakit talaga yung ulo mo na di mo kaya there's a very big chance that the pain killers won't help you. Kaya nga when you have migraines or pains and you visit a doctor the doctor will ask you how painful it is from a rating of 1 to 10 according to your pain threshold. If you experience it too often and it's really painful then don't hesitate to see a specialist. Madalas 2 specialist lang yan, either a neurologist or a cardiologist. My father's friend had brain aneurysms and didn't even know it. Gulat nalang siya nung nakita yung results sa CT-Scan. Ok na siya kasi nagpa-opera sa Thailand and India at tinanggal yung aneurysm. But don't get paranoid.... migraines could be just as simple as being stress-oriented or even pinched nerves in your neck and shoulder area or even a jaw problem like TMJ. Lie down on an elevated position and NEVER ever lie straight down... just trust me on this, health hazzard reason.Drink lots of fluids. May nagsabi dito that they drink Gatorade at nawala yung headache nila... I know Gatorade is also used for electrolyte imbalance. Most people with stress migraine I recommend that they go to a rehab clinic or a physical theraphy clinic and have a massage or rehab done. That's what I did when I was stressed for working 3 weeks straight na halos walang tulog. I developed MPS or air inside the muscle areas that caused my nerves to pinch and my muscles to strain thus giving me a headache. Rehab relieved my tensed neck, shoulders and back. They even give you exercise routines you should religously do at home or at work. Kaya nga when it comes to physical fitness, don't consult with your gym instructor(unless doctor siya), talk to your P.T. or Rehab doctor. Quote Link to comment
ej_qn
those 2 are the most marriaged symptoms of any illness I know.Generally, it can be narrowed to:1)heart disease2)diabetes3)obesity4)unhealthy lifestyle5)hypertension/stress Some people have high bad cholesterol and then back to normal ranges within a couple of weeks/months. I once had high bad cholesterol according to my blood test so I did a lifestyle change. I became a vegetarian for almost half a year, had an exercise routine and took vitamin supplements. Good thing I don't smoke or drink beer but I drink moderate doses or red wine from time to time. Sa mga concerned about their health... eto ang mga medical procedures that I underwent this year kasi sabi daw ng isang doktor saken na may saket daw ako sa puso, arrythmia. I took:1)blood test2)2D echo with doppler on the heart area3)treadmill stress test 4)check-ups twice a month with my cardio. Sabi ng MGA cardio ko na sira-ulo daw yung doktor na nagsabi may arrythmia ako and even gave me a medication, Verapamil, a medication that could literally give me panic attacks, arrythmia not to mention a heart attack or stroke kasi I was just 26 back then. Mas accurate pa yung 2D echo ko and specially my treadmill stress test to determine kung may saket ng ako sa puso or wala. Subjective daw kasi yung ECG/EKG kasi some patients are anxious when they take it kaya madalas may nakikita talaga eventhough walang saket yung patiente. Iba naman magulo or nadi-distract like saken napa-ubo ako noon at napa "ahem" ako dahil I had colds. Statin drugs are good for lowering bad cholesterol aka low-density lipoprotein (LDL) but nothing beats a good healthy lifestyle. Quote Link to comment

yanzmyk
I think those who do not have migraines would not be able to comprehend how painful having one really is. The throbbing and that extreme pain at one part of your head while all you can do is lie in bed in a dark quiet room while trying not to move too much as any exertion makes it even more painful and throb even more. I actually kid around sometimes because whenever I have migraines, it’s like I have super powers because I can smell and hear everything and I am very photosensitive. At the onset of Migraine I always pop 1 Ponstan 500 SF. But even this strong medicine isn’t enough for me at times. For exteme cases I take Tramal or Tromadol. I think it’s a general pain reliever but what I like about it is also makes you sleepy so I can just sleep the pain away. My officemate swears by water therapy. She said she used to have migraine almost everyday. That’s until she started drinking 3 glasses of water right after she wakes up an every opportunity thereafter. I am trying this out myself now but I still get the occasional migraines. Any other suggestions? Anybody have a success story at beating migraine? :goatee: Quote Link to comment
