gherome
well y nt send walker bck to celtics??? get there first rd pick next yr.... beside 1 more ring for walker and dats its for him..... IMHO, I don't think Walker is worth getting traded for a first round pick (if you're the team that gets Walker and loses that 1st round pick) Quote Link to comment

jedimaster
Rockets 96, Grizzlies 93: Grizzlies open on losing note 0 Comment October 8 Memphis Commercial Appeal "Mike Conley found himself in a conversation essentially about the tools of his trade before the Grizzlies began the exhibition schedule. He seemed to abandon a slick weapon in his offensive arsenal, a hesitation maneuver during his dribble-drive that often paralyzes defenders while Conley glides to the basket. Officials often are caught off guard, too, trying to decide whether to whistle a carry. "I'm going to use it more," Conley said, smiling before the Grizzlies' 96-93 preseason loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night in the Toyota Center. Except that Conley didn't dilly-dally much with the basketball. He stayed on the attack, which was an encouraging early sign for the second-year point guard who drew criticism for playing too passively throughout his rookie season. Especially on a night when the Grizzlies' main scoring options -- Rudy Gay and rookie O.J. Mayo -- battled foul trouble. Until that duo got on track in the fourth quarter, Conley provided the spark. He aggressively drove to the rim early and often, found a rhythm from beyond the arc, rebounded, and pushed the basketball to set up easy scores for teammates. Quote Link to comment
jedimaster
Wizards 89, Grizzlies 80 -- Grizzlies can't get moving 0 Comment October 9 Memphis Commercial Appeal "About four minutes had expired in the fourth quarter and, mercifully, the officials called time. Grizzlies head coach Marc Iavaroni exhaled. Then he began to pace. Rudy Gay had just dribbled around the 3-point arc and, without regard for his teammates, launched an ill-advised shot that fell short. So Iavaroni grabbed his returning offensive dynamo by the waist with one hand and used the other to reel in rookie guard O.J. Mayo for some constructive criticism. "He said we were holding onto the ball too long," Gay confessed. "He wanted us to move the ball. It was just frustration. I don't know why we're frustrated this early." The scene indicated that these aren't just meaningless exhibition games for the young Grizzlies. Lessons must be learned. Chemistry must be established. The hope is that Wednesday night the Griz learned from their mistakes on offense throughout an 89-80 preseason loss to the Washington Wizards in FedExForum. Quote Link to comment

jedimaster
Griz get out of blocks fast, beat Bobcats 0 Comment October 11 Memphis Commercial Appeal "Pace is everything for the Grizzlies. At least that's the early read nearly halfway through the preseason. For the second time in three exhibition games the Griz put on the afterburners, racing out for easy scores in transition. And for the second time they were competitive, earning a 92-79 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats Friday night in FedExForum. "We were back to 20 fast-break points, which we had (Tuesday) against Houston," coach Marc Iavaroni said after his team's first exhibition win. "We had 10 (Wednesday) against Washington. We have to create easy shots. We're not a great shooting team right now, especially from three so we have to find a way to get to the rim." The Griz shot just 38 percent in their first two outings and made 43 percent of their shots against the Bobcats. But they shot 69 percent in the opening period, scoring 10 of their first 12 points off fast breaks. Quote Link to comment
jedimaster
Milicic has to be healthy and continue on blocking shots as his forte. He and Haddadi can substitute and that means there will be a consistent defender in the inside area. Warrick shall be the mobile type defender, ala Prince. Ross shall be the outside shooter defender, ala Bowen. Quote Link to comment
jedimaster
Mayo scores 26 to lead Grizzlies over Pacers 0 Comment October 14 Memphis Commercial Appeal "O.J. Mayo tries to never leave the practice court without making roughly 200 extra shots. For the first time this preseason, it seemed as though he made that many in a game. The Grizzlies' rookie experienced an offensive breakthrough Monday night, tossing in a game-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers as the Grizzlies beat the Indiana Pacers, 103-95, during preseason action in FedExForum. Mayo, the highly touted rookie taken third in the draft and then traded to Memphis, turned in his most assertive performance yet. He looked to score and he delivered mostly along the perimeter. "When Mike Miller and Juan Carlos Navarro were shooting well, we were a pretty good offensive team," Griz coach Marc Iavaroni said. "Because of (Mayo's) shooting we shot 52 percent and that makes the team look good. We knew he'd be one of the guys who could make 3-pointers. We're looking for one more guy to step in and knock them down." Quote Link to comment

jedimaster
Memphis Grizzlies lost to Houston Rockets for second time in preseason. Both losses were close, the firs time was 3pt deficit, this one is just 4pts. Veteran champ Walker has got to play better. The team needs him more for inside attempts than perimeter shots. Going into the regular season, it seems 4 players have locked in their starting posts : Gasol - Center? - PFGay - SFConley - PGMayo - SG I prefer Arthur to be the starting PF. However, as it is, looks like Milicic is getting it. Back-up point remains suspect. I sure hoped they got Singletary from the concluded rookie draft. That fellow is just very impressive. The Kings got their crown jewel in him. Pero ok na rin ako kina Mayo and Arthur. Quote Link to comment
jedimaster
Gay and Mayo not enough to help Griz top Pacers 0 Comment October 18 Memphis Commercial Appeal "Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo weren't just symmetrically making plays to give the Grizzlies' offense some credibility in an otherwise erratic outing. The pair were also on the same page Friday night after the Griz left Conseco Fieldhouse with a 112-86 preseason loss to the Indiana Pacers. They don't intend for this to be a two-man team. Gay and Mayo combined for 36 points on 14-of-24 shooting. Their teammates went 17-of-67 from the field, leading to the Griz laboring on both ends of the court and head coach Marc Iavaroni seconding the motion filed by his primary scorers.
