junix
bgk beats san mig in opener...gets W #1. tingin ko lang sa laro nila kanina, not only did the team get taller, naging malalim pa ang bench. sana tuloy-tuloy na yan. quite an impressive debut by big man "greg". and how about the addition of jr reyes to the line-up and the comeback kid dylan ababou. galing ng pinakita nila. can we also say that ginebra has the smallest but fastest backcourt combo in LA and monfort? fatchubs
The almost gone Dylan saved the day with his sniping in the 2nd half. There's no stopping GSM once they got the momentum. 5 Quote Link to comment
photographer
Manila Clasico win over San Mig CoffeeInterAKTV · Sunday, November 17, 2013 · 5:44 pm http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/assets/2013/11/dylan-ababou-ginebra-san-mig.jpgInterAKTV/Justin Gener Barangay Ginebra San Miguel served notice to the rest of the league with an impressive 86-69 win over the San Mig Coffee Mixers to open the PLDT MyDSL Philippine Cup on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum. The new twin tower combination of Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter helped the Gin Kings rule the paint. Aguilar had 18 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks, while top overall pick Slaughter added 10 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks for the Gin Kings, who they put the clamps down on the Mixers in the second half. Ginebra outscored San Mig Coffee, 52-27, after the halftime break. "Iba pa rin ang merong malaki," said Ginebra coach Ato Agustin. Ginebra also got a spark from Dylan Ababou, who scored all 16 of his points after being inserted in the third quarter. Ababou's hot shooting made up for the subpar game from Ginebra star Mark Caguioa, who scored just two points after missing all four of his shots. "Kailangan humanap ka ng magandang combination," said Agustin, who said benching top players wouldn't be a problem with the team. "We all agreed na team muna. Walang magiging problema." LA Tenorio finished with 17 points and 10 assists for the Gin Kings, while backup center Jay-R Reyes also came up big with 10 points and nine rebounds in his Ginebra debut. Mark Barroca led San Mig Coffee with 14 points, while Val Acuna was the only other player in double figures for the Mixers with 10 points. After a solid start, the recently-crowned champion of the Governors' Cup could not muster enough firepower down the stretch as it missed Joe Devance and Peter June Simon because of injuries. No. 2 overall pick Ian Sangalang had a solid debut for the Mixers with eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in 23 minutes. Despite the impressive win, Agustin cautioned against putting too much stock in it. "It's a first win. Hindi dapat magsaya. Long way to go," he said. Quote Link to comment
RED2018
The management's decision to make Greg the overall No. 1 pick will be vindicated...A 7-footer is a 7-footer, and he will still improve over time. The Gin Kings' standing is bright with enough and proper handling by their management and coaching staff- the materials are clearly there... Last night, Greg showed his much-ballyhooed 'promise' Quote Link to comment
jepoyskieLOVEbianca
For me ito ang tingin ko...If ginebra wanted a mobile big man then they should have drafted ian sangalang at hindi mo na kailangan un mama maging mobile.

I think that if there is someone to mentor Greg IMHO it must not be Marlou. Kita naman natin yun mama may one on one post move while si Greg is still awkward sa ganoong situations. Based on his first game,Greg's points comes mostly on pick and rolls near the basket and offensive rebound put backs. I hope Aguilar will continue to "bulk up" or at least gain more upper body strength. Parang ang awkward niya kasi pang sinalubong ng foul going to the basket. Baka lang ma-injured siya uli kasi if I recall sa ganun situation siya na injured last conference 5 Quote Link to comment
azraelmd
I dont think kelangan ibulk up pa si Aguilar...his advantage over the other players locally and internationally is his explosive jumping ability.. Added bulk means added weight ...which will toll heavily on his knees...he need better post moves tho..but ala mon fernandez, limpot or danny I....not menk or asi...also aguilar set the tone early for the gin kings...if not for caguioas errant and hurried shot...we would have not fallen behind...They really need to find an alternate to mark already...like dylan and maybe forrester...kinda a waste on the 4th round pick if he will not be getting playing time....if you noticed without mark inside the court ...BGKs offense and defense is faster and not stagnant...sadly we have to accept the fact that caguiaos reign as king gin is coming to an end... Baka lang ma-injured siya uli kasi if I recall sa ganun situation siya na injured last conference totally agree boss, lamang nga si Jun Mar sa mga post up moves... and lamang si Slaughter sa defensive side... siguro yun yung kailangan praktisin pa ni Slaughter, kung maidadagdag nya yung mga post up moves, laking bagay sa BGSM nun at magiging malaking problema sa ibang teams yun... medyo kailangan din mas maging aggressive pa si Greg... masyado pa malambot sa luob... natutulak pa eh, kung mas maging aggressive yun, baka hindi lang 13 rebounds nagawa nya... saka baka mas marami pang put backs... agree din ako na medyo magdagdag din si Aguilar ng konting muscles, wag lang sosobra... ok na yung aggressiveness nya eh, improved na din on defense (5blocks, plus many more changed shot because of intimidations...), kailangan lang talaga magdagdag, para mas magamit nya yung height nya... yung sakto lang dapat... azraelmd
Oh yeah ...marc baracael also...thanks arte...Sa totoo lang yun mga nag Gilas...malaki ang improvement nila whether from gilas 1 to the latest one...i always believed that once naglaro ka sa national team...magaling ka talaga... Unlike...(sorry sa ibang players)...sina mark, yap and yes even arwind...when they played for the country..nde umubra yun one on one style nila...Anyway if ginebra can get a good rotation on their small forward position ...solid na sila...the starter position is up for grabs between dylan and baracael...( altho mas gusto ko si baracael because of his defensive capabilities)....and on Greg.... Yeah hell need more improvement..but more on defense and rebounding department....just leave the scoring to LA mark and japhet for the meantime( oh yeah for those japhet haters out there... Eat your $@i*!).. Again nde cya nagimprove nun nag gilas cya eh... Unlike si junmar talaga.... And please... No marlou as mentor... And i heard season pass cost around 35k??? Quote Link to comment
