Rotc (military Science) Becomes Mandatory Again

Isang issue na hindi masyado napaguusapan:  Is the Philippine government really willing to bring back ROTC as a program that provides actual military training (including firearms handling and familiarization with basic infantry tactics) to students around the country, with all of its implications?

People often forget that ironically, many of the NPA cadres (and some MNLF cadres too) in the 70's onwards were able to do so much damage partly thanks to the fact that they received military training in the ROTC program as students.

As a reaction to this fact, in the 90s the ROTC program was scaled back/devolved to "magdamagang martsa at bilad sa araw" in many schools and universities, with most students never learning any valuable skill beyond how to pay bribes to bullies and underachievers possessing temporary power.

Very well said @dc123

I had classmates who attended more than the amount of days required yet in the end of the semester the records say they lack 1 or 2 or 3 days, so ending is they had to pay for the number of days needed to pass that sem. So even for some students who dont want to pay for it to pass, for some reason these corrupt rotc personel find ways to add or force students to pay. And there are these collections they make they say its for a patch or patches for the uniform. 20php a piece. And of course during or after the sem you will not receive these patches. Multiply 20php to thousands of students who attend rotc and that's a big kickback.

Wala man lang self-defense at basic weapons training.

Source of corruption just like it was before it was stopped. Those who could afford just paid for attendance. Those who couldn''t afford had to endure "military training" that was nothing more than marching drills at most. Many schools didn't even have big enough school grounds for marching so cadets just spent the whole day inside classrooms twiddling their thumbs. Not all cadets could even be supplied with those antiquated Garand rifles which were not even close to what was being used by the actual military.
