Computers: Frequently Asked Questions

Recommended Posts

For a budget of up to 30k, my techie officemate suggested that I buy either of these:

Lenovo g480, Asus k450ca

Im using it for typing, surfing, movie watching, sound tripping, playing rpg like the sims, possible photo and video editing.

Any opinion? TIA.

Go for the Lenovo G480 model with the dedicated videocard like this one since you'll have a hard time editing pics and/or videos with an onboard gpu. Its better to have a dedicated gpu for games and editing.

To enable auto-run of USB in windows 7:

Go to control panel

If you are on category mode, switch it to Small Icons mode

Open AutoPlay

Check the Use AutoPlay for All Media and Devices at the top of the screen.

Click Save.

Its good to go.

Im planning to buy a laptop.

Main purpose: writing papers, surfing, a little photo editing /archiving, video streaming/watching, sound tripping

Secondary purpose: games, edit my ipod formatted in a mac.

Budget: up to 55k

Which is the better choice: macbook or windows-based laptop?

For me personally, a windows-based laptop, but running on Ubuntu.

But if you are not familiar with Ubuntu, a more value for money is on Macbook. Why?

  • slim chance of slowdowns in the future.
  • safer in terms of malware and viruses

The only hitch that you will be getting if you would be using a non-windows PC are:

  • familiarity
  • limited software options (specially for Mac, sa Ubuntu, madaming options).
