Let me just add Tiger Woods amazing come from behind win at this year's US Open against Rocko Mediate.

Not only did he tie him for a playoff during the tournaments fourth round, but he had to do it again during the playoff before finally winning the 91st hole to take the whole thing.

And to top it all off he won it with bad knee.

if this isn't one of the greatest, this surely is THE gutsiest performance of ANY athlete EVER.

The Japanese brought Ju Jitsu to the Brazil, and Yuki Nakai brought the Brazilian modification to Japan. Yuki Nakai is the first Japanese BJJ black belt, and the story how is that of (you guessed it) legend.

Yuki Nakai was sent to the VTJ tournament as a representative of Shooto, the lightest competitor in the event. Yuki's first match up was against UFC 1 finalist Gerard Gordeau, a 50+ kickboxer from Holland. Yuki overcame his size advantage by relying on his already excellent ground game. But in that fight he was inflicted with an injury that would affect not only his career, but his life. Gerard decided that it would be a good idea to gouge Yuki's right eye in order to make the match more even in his favor. He failed obviously, but he didn't in permanently blinding Nakai's right eye. After 4 rounds, Nakai finally secured the heel hook. This was just the first fight of the night.

Yuki Nakai was treated with a 250+ pound wrestler in Craig Pittman as an opponent. The size was an obvious factor in the fight, but as a true tactician Yuki displayed superb technique over strength in getting Craig in a flying armbar. The 155 lb fighter, the smallest in the tournament, has just made it to the finals. His opponent? A legend himself: Rickson Gracie.

The fight was fairly competitive, but Rickson's size and technique were too much for Yuki when he fell to an RNC late in the first round. The term "samurai spirit" and the word "heart" are thrown around much on the MMA message boards, sometimes undeserving. But if we to choose one person to fit that definition above all other fighters, it has to be Yuki Nakai.

Yuki, impressed with Rickson's Jiu-Jitsu, went to Brazil and started training. He became the first Japanese black belt in BJJ, and his school, Paraestra, altered the Japanese MMA scene in bringing in a new breed of grapplers. His school has branches all over Japan, with their most recognizable team member (to westerners at least) being Shinya Aoki.

Yuki Nakai is a legend.

greatest single performance from an athlete, so there can only be one from each athlete (that's why it's called greatest):

1. MJ - game winning shot in game 6 of the 1998 nba finals. picture perfect. perfect ending to a storied career as a Bulls player.

2. Magic Johnson - playing as center in a finals game against the sixers. scored 42 pts. and carrying his team to the title.

3. Kobe - 81 points. 2nd most points in a single game. the nba has greatly improved and scoring 81 even though against the raptors is still an incredible feat.

4. Lebron - by far when he scored 55 points against the Pistons in the Easter Conference finals. he scored 25 consecutive points in a quarter.

5. Reggie Miller - scoring at will against the knicks in a span of 12 secs eventually upsetting the knicks.

6. Vince Carter - literally jumping over the 7 footer french in an olympic game. that was an unbelievable dunk. truly an olympic moment in the basketball world.

7. Rafa Nadal - finally dethroning Federer as the 2008 Wimbledon champion. the longest finals game in the history of Wimbledon.

8. Tiger Woods - winning the US Open despite a bad knee.

9. Derek Fisher - remember the game winning shot in 0.4 seconds against the spurs? i saw that game and that was really a miraculous shot. that shot eventually demoralized the spurs in the games after and soon, they lost to the lakers in the conference finals.

10. Big Shot Bob - though he hit many big time cluch shots. his all time best was when he hit the game winning shot against the Kings. it really broke the camel's back for the Kings who eventually lost to the Lakers en route to their first championship of the 3peat.

that's it for now. i'm sleepy na hehe.

the Chargers' Philip Rivers suiting up for the AFC Championship game (which they lost to the Pats) on a very bad knee (he was practically playing on one leg).

and to top it all off---all this---without his teammates knowing how bad his condition was and how he put his whole career in jeopardy just for a chance to play for the big one.
