Warning About Toyota Cars

ive been using fortuner 2.5 for almost 3yrs now. so far ang complaint ko lang ay ang tigas ng shocks!

pero astig pa rin kahit luma na.

I was at the DANNY's CARWASH and CAR AIRCON SPECIALIST along BONI AVE. this afternoon to have my old but fast and efficient TOYOTA CORONA EXSIOR be subjected to CAR AIRCON CLEANING and FREON CHARGING... Then I saw some new TOYOTA VIOS arriving. One had a busted motor fan and the other had an aircon problem. I noticed the lady in the passenger's seat sweating in a brand new TOYOTA VIOS!

 

Then the mechanic told me that they usually get alot of service requests and jobs from owners of brand new TOYOTA cars and most are due to defects since "TAIWAN" daw kasi halos ang mga parts. Well, I noticed that perhaps the guy was merely referring to new cars having poor quality now because of the way mass production is being done with cheap labor in most asian countries.

 

As for me, I have been driving my car for so long without any major faults except for the need to have it repainted to restore elegance. Nonetheless, at 200K for over s pan of 10 years of ownership and long drives plus an average speed of 100KPH in EDSA and 100-160KPH at NLEX, I am very much happy with my TOYOTA car! The quality of TOYOTAs made then is far better than the TOYOTAs made now.

honda ko kahit 3 taon na yata di nag change oil it was NEVER sluggish, lalo na pag kumagat yung VTEC.

I'm glad someone here actually uses common sense and doesn't try to be a pseudo-mechanic by insisting on the regular 5k change oil, which btw is just the companies way of guaranteeing more income for them.

 

 

Btw, I agree with a previous poster who said the quality of cars has deteriorated since the good old days. Aside from the obvious "gawa sa lata" tag, seems integral parts like oil pumps, fans, sensors and the like conk out way before their due.

 

Ironic that in this age of new and improved technology somethings things are made in inferior quality to their past counterparts.

the thread starter is angry with toyota..well, we cant blame him. We did'nt went thru the situations that he experienced. Here are my opinion on this case.

 

A car is not perfect, it is designed and made by man. When you buy a car, it is expected that in a certain period, you will be required to do some minor and major repair depending on the KMs it travelled, the road conditions and mostly the driving style of the one using it. There are also rare cases wherein new cars will breakdown prematurely due to unseen manufacturing deffects. Remember guys, the breakdown of cars is not BRAND DEPENDENT. All of them have inherent advantage and disadvantage, thats why each one of us buys a different model or brand because we have our own way of choosing.

 

It is unfair to label Toyota Cars as bad. As if we were saying that the Millions of people using toyota cars are wrong?! Maybe, just maybe the batch that was bought have manufacturing deffect, but a company will not put a BRANDED product that has design deffect. I do not believe that the oil pump of a 1.6 toyota engine is undersized for the unit. Cmon, the amount of oil circulating the lubrication system is design with a safety factor of 2. This is because the designer takes into consideration the clugging of the system from the pump down to the filters.

 

If your car suffers this deffect, what about the 199,000 thousand more that bought the same model on the same year? i think there's only 3 of you that has complained online about this. Mind you guys, i dont work ON TOYOTA. My cars are not toyota, except my first owner type jeep that was assembled out of every available junk on the market. I am just presenting here a different opinion. I always tell my friends about buying a car.

To be worry free (almost) change car every 3-5 yrs..below 100T Km..like the japanese. Actually this last one is the best solution to your problem..PEACE bro.

 

 

i agree with you bro... sa lahat ng bagay na binibili natin, meron talagang mga product na "lemon"(sirain, o poor quality). like if you buy in bulk, meron at meron ka talagang makikitang isa or higit pa na may depekto... kahit sino na nasa manufacturing makakapagpatunay nito. it's just not fair to brand toyota as a bad car...

The first thing we've changed when we got our fortuner were the rear shocks...went straight to Ride in Banawe to get ProComp MX6...brought the 'tuner to Sagada and we had no other issues after that...except - the DVD system that was added on (pinadagdag ng bullshit na ahente para daw mas mabilis ma-release yung unit at may extra kita siya from the supplier syempre...got our fortuner when the model was first introduced here in RP therefore mahaba pila) was a lemon. Got the unit from TQA.

I have the same experience with the thread starter. I bought my Toyota Altis 1.6 from Toyota Marikina in May of 2003. I religiously followed the preventive maintenance schedule (PMS) of the car bringing it to Toyota Marikina every 5,000 km. I used only Toyota parts and oil for my car. What I immediately noticed everytime my car is serviced at Toyota Marikina is that they always use engine flush everytime the oil is changed. Please note, I only use the ordinary Toyota oil that they recommend and not the synthetic ones. The engine flushing surprised me a lot because this should be done only when you switch oil from synthetic to ordinary or vice versa. Pinabayaan ko na lang i-engine flush kasi mura lang naman ang cost.

 

Sometime in 2006, I switched to Toyota Makati along Metropolitan Avenue because my girlfriend was working there and secondly, that dealership is owned by Toyota Motor Philippines. Toyota Marikina and Cubao and others are owned by the Metrobank Group of Companies. Bottomline is, I was able to avail of huge discounts plus the fact that the car will be taken cared of much better because of the affiliation of the dealer with Toyota Motor Philippines and the fact that my girl was working in the service department. The first thing I observed when my car was serviced by Toyota Makati is that they did not flush the engine when the oil is changed. Fast forward to October of 2007 and at 78,000 kms, I heard some noise emanating from the engine. I brought the car to Toyota Makati and lo and behold, they discovered the oil in the engine to be half full. Further investigation revealed that my Altis has developed oil sludge in the crank case. The service technicians tried all remedial measures like cleaning the oil sludge (binabad sa sosa and kinudkod) and others. They failed in all their attempts because the engine continued to emit noise and consume oil at the rate of 1 liter every two weeks or even less. When all things proved futile and ineffective, they recommended a general overhaul of the car which they did last month and at a cost of PHP37,000.00 inclusive of the machine shop where the sludge was sand blasted to remove it from the crank case. Please note, the cost is net of the 15% discount on parts and labor and a huge slash on the machine shop from the initial estimate of PHP25,000.00. Ang dami pinalitan. My altis is now working fine again and like brand new. However, I just bought a Honda Civic from Honda Cars Manila and will be using it from hereon. Yung Altis, ibibigay ko sa pamangkin ko.

 

The question that begs the answer is what caused the general overhaul of the engine of my Altis. Toyota Makati offered two explanations to me namely,

 

1. The oil that Toyota Marikina used. It is Toyota oil alright but with an additive which they call AMALI OIL. It is different from the oil used in other Toyota dealerships not owned by the Metrobank Group of Companies. Toyota Makati came short of calling the AMALI OIL inferior in quality than the regular Toyota oil. This is the reason why the engine has to be flushed every oil change. The problem could have been avoided if Toyota Makati was made aware that Toyota Marikina was servicing my car before I switched to them. They would have flushed my engine the first tme I used them to service my car. So beware when you have your car serviced with Toyota. Ask first if the dealer is owned by the Metrobank Group of Companies. If it is, go somewhere else.

 

2. There is a flaw in the engine design of VVTi engines of Toyota. It is prone to engine sludge if you exceed the 5,000 km PMS. That is why you have to make sure that you have your Altis PMS'd every 5,000 km or near that but not beyond that. This was the cautionary notice I got from Toyota Makati when I claimed my car after it was overhauled. To give you an idea on what I am talking about, please search the internet using the key words sludge and Toyota and you will find a wealth of information on the subject including court cases in the United States filed by irate consumers. The problem is not confined to Altis only. All models with VVTi engines are susceptible to sludge if you do not change oil every 5,000 kms. My new Honda Civic requires 10,000 km check up and not 5,000 km.

Same here. barely a year old (@20TKm) and our innova's front shocks had to be replaced. I don't like how the 2.5L D4d engine sounds, its too noisy for a modern common rail engine. Mausok pa, siguro hinirit ng nagdala nung unit from the plant to the dealership kaya anlalaki na ng butas ng fuel pump nozzle. Hay.

have a 2007 altis. about 38,000kms na. im from the province so i drive a lot before getting to the city. no problems with the car. its a 1.6 engine, just have it changed oil regularly.
