Surgery is required. As a result, Cena will be out of action for 6-8 months. The injury is so severe that they're not allowing him to compete in his scheduled championship match with Randy Orton next Sunday at No Mercy. He will have no choice but to forfeit the title. Here is WWE's official statement regarding the matter: Cena out with pec tear, must surrender WWE Championship Written: October 2, 2007 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – WWE Champion John Cena has suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral tendon and is heading into surgery, according to noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Because of the seriousness of the injury, WWE officials will not allow Cena to compete this Sunday at No Mercy, and he will have no choice but to surrender the title. Dr. Andrews said Cena could miss between six and eight months of action. Cena was injured during his match Monday night on Raw with Mr. Kennedy. Before visiting Dr. Andrews, Cena had said, “No matter how serious, the injury, one way or another I’ll be ready to compete on Sunday.” But despite Cena’s vow, WWE officials will not allow him to compete at No Mercy. Therefore, he must surrender the WWE Championship. WWE officials vow that there will be a WWE Championship Match this Sunday at No Mercy and a new WWE Champion will be crowned. Survivor Series will take place on November 18, 2007 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. Edge will join Rey Mysterio, Triple H, Undertaker, and reportedly Chris Jericho (if he returns Sunday at No Mercy) as WWE stars that have returned on pay-per-view rather than on free television. gwapogi Posted October 4, 2007 Share Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) i really don't get all this animosity towards john cena as champ... there were many wrestlers who were even less talented than cena but were still given a big push... agree... to name some of recent: mvp, great khali, horn-y mcmahon... belts / titles OF RECENT only became instruments of monumental push... a nobody who is high on vkm's list will be virtually awarded the belt and the rest is history... ...heck, before, even cena had to wear color coded trunks & boots during his wwe debut and his earlier years, and had to job many times, too - prior to the thuganomics gimmick and the us title and the wwe title... and: yeah... one year with the belt is quite long... well, as if it is cena's decision to hold on to it, huh... blame vkm... blame johnny laurinatis... blame the creative team... dont hate the player... hate the game... and no, i didn't say hate "The Game"...
