Pro wrestling isn't about the amount of moves you can do or the crazy high flying or all of that other bullsh*t, its about getting the crowd into what you are doing. John Cena does that better than almost any wrestler alive today. The man is great. Cena is pretty awesome. Why do people dislike him? - Hardcore or longtime fans don't think he's as cool as Austin and Rock was. I mean, if you're just a random dude and you see a match between a young, good-looking rapper or an Olympic Gold Medalist, who are you going to probably go for? Or the rapper and the legendary Michaels? Or the rapper and the cool rock star guy who was around since the late 90s (Jericho?) Even HHH is generally portrayed as way hipper than Cena. Cena was put in the ring with a lot of "cool" characters and a certain segment of the fanbase supported the oppotent. When Cena is in the ring with a true heel he gets support. Aside from that brief bout of insanity when people were cheering for Masters to win at NYR , the crowds have been with him when he's been booked as the babyface against a good heel. The WWE books him in situation where he'll get booed. They wouldn't throw him out there against babyfaces or against every smart mark flavor of the moment if they were concerned about it. - The rednecks don't like him because he's a pasty gentleman. That's really pretty simple. A casual fan who cheered for Steve Austin might not be able to identify with Thug Life. - Hardcore fans backlash everyone who gets pushed to the moon eventually. The fact that Cena has been put over everyone for the last 2 years is contrary to what a lot of people are used to. Hs went over everyone and the internet nearly exploded. Cena's booking over the past 3 years has been the best they've done for a babyface champion since Hogan. I don't think Austin was booked as well as Cena as the Austin and McMahon storyline transcended the belt and most feuds. - He's a good looking guy who's portrayed as a plucky never say die babyface. Shawn Michaels used to play the same rule and would get booed out of some buildings too. - The booing thing is like the "What." Fans see it at one show and they copy it. It kind of took on a life of its own. -The stuff about "oh, we boo him because he's not a good wrestler" is retarded. All of a sudden the massive WWE audience is the ROH fanbase. Or slagging his moveset. Sh*t, man... there's no more overexposed move than a superkick yet people sure as hell buy it when Shawn Michaels kicks you in the face. It's just tiresome to read people still criticize Cena. The only valid point is that his scripted promo deliveries aren't always great, but when he riffs on stuff he's pretty great and has great intensity and can get over a program with his promo. So yeah, Cena is all kinds of awesome. Is he as good as Austin at his peak? Or Hart? Or Michaels? Probably not, but who the f*ck is? With the exception of Edge, can anyone point to one performer on the roster that should be booked over Cena? He just had the best match of his career last night and it's my favourite match of his I've seen. Far superior to last years overrated main event with the Hs. And even the people who dislike him will pay to watch a main event to see him get beat up and possibly lose. As for me, I don't dislike Cena. I just wanted HBK to win. See how the crowd reacted when HBK and Taker were having at each other during the Raw rematch. I would've liked a bit of the Attitude nostalgia. Bad-ass Taker, now champ. HBK halfway heel-face... should have been champ. High-flying Hardys. Austin showing up. Rock getting heard a bit. Not too bad eh? Still hoping Backlash brings us a new WWE Champ.
