CM Punk is now the number 1 contender to Cena's belt at MITB

And he announced that he's leaving the WWE, whether he wins the belt or not. And yes, he is legitimately leaving. He's been unhappy with WWE's treatment of him as of late, thus him quitting the company.

Raw's Power to the People gimmick received a lot of backlash following reports that due to the overwhelming number of votes that the WWE received, their system made errors in the tallying. Evan Bourne's opponent was suppose to be Sin Cara, not Mason Ryan. Because of this, Sin Cara will face Evan Bourne in next week's Raw

Released WWE Smackdown star Chavo Guerrero has posted the following on his Twitter account:

"Yes, it's true. My release is the big news I was talking about. But let's get something straight. I asked for my release. I was just tired of not being used correctly. Just cuz u can make other ppl look good, doesn't mean they should just have u lose to them. The same thing happened to Eddie. After being champ, they still had him working mid card status. Being a Guerrero, we've been taught since diapers to get the most out of ppl & matches. It's our gift, but also our curse. WWE has always used us to make other ppl look good. It all comes down to being happy. I was not happy in WWE anymore. I had a smile on my face last night though when I got my release though! :) now it's time for me to start being a Guerrero again, and start kicking ass again, be able to tell stories in the ring like u know we can. :) win or lose I will never go back to the place WWE put me in. I will never go back to being under utilized and watching ppl who suck get bigger "pushes" than me! Thank u to all of u who stuck by me & kept reminding me, I was better than that! :) stay tuned.. Big things coming!! Now I will really be able to entertain u! :) like me or hate me, 1 thing I have always tried to do is entertain u and give u fans your $ worth. Even if my hands were tied most of the time. I love u all and can't wait for the future!! So happy. :)"

i share ko lang sa inyo nabasa ko sa isang forum regarding CM Punk's RAW's outrage

It's not kayfabe, as what the topic suggests. It's breaking kayfabe. If it was kayfabe, he wouldn't have mentioned the topics that were considered taboo. He wouldn't have mentioned the obvious - that he was breaking the proverbial fourth wall. He wouldn't even have mentioned that he actually liked John Cena (it's no secret that Cena is one of Punk's supporters during the many times when the latter garnered humongous heat backstage).

The story, it seems, is that Punk was given free reign on what to say, and the only thing that was scripted was his attack on Cena that would set up the shoot (or work-shoot as some would believe) and that the ending would be him being cut off the mic and the program ending without the WWE watermark. Everything he said in between was completely his, words which were born from the frustration that built up throughout the 6 years of his stay in the WWE.

Now, the mic was cut prematurely though (there were still 82 seconds left for the usual overrun of the program) because Punk started to talk about the Anti-Bullying campaign that the WWE is promoting. Bullying is a big topic in the US right now, and the WWE didn't want another controversy that is similar to the Daniel Bryan incident (wherein he was used as a scapegoat and was fired because Mattel, the makers of WWE toys, considered the Nexus angle as too violent). But if Punk only kept shooting on the personalities backstage, he would have had more than a minute added to his classic, classic, classic promo.

My opinion is that it's indeed a work-shoot. The scenario is a work, but it is based on a wild child like Punk finally being set loose to shoot on everything he has hated since 2005.

But does this mean that he's on his way out? As in REALLY on his way out?

I don't think so.

Contrary to storyline, Punk's contract has expired second week of June, and he's just working under an extension that will last until July 17... or so the WWE would want us to believe. But I think Punk has already agreed on an extension, if not having signed one, that will guarantee his stay on the roster. Let's look at the arguments that would support this:

1. Punk is being given the push of his career. If he will be allowed to walk out of the company, he will be the HOTTEST COMMODITY in wrestling. Even after the customary 90-day non-compete clause, Punk's stock will still be hot. Why would Vince McMahon elevate someone who would eventually leave him? Which leads us to...

2. The possibility of Punk joining a rival company. Forget about TNA, they're self-destructing, and I doubt that someone of Punk's calibre will even consider them. But Ring of Honor (ROH) just secured a TV deal, and Punk helped build ROH from 2002 to 2005. Punk may very well be the face of the new ROH that mainstream America will bear witness to. Why would Vince McMahon

3. What happened to the "time honored tradition" (a phrase that McMahon came up with when referring to burying wrestlers who are on their way out to diminish their market value for the competition)? McMahon buried Diesel when he decided to sign up with WCW. McMahon tried to bury Bret Hart when he did the same. McMahon buried both Brock Lesnar and Bill Boldberg at the same time, in the same match, when they did their last WWE match at Wrestlemania. But McMahon isn't burying CM Punk. Even if Punk loses at Money In The Bank, the way he's being used is raising his stock higher than any heel who came before him. It's breaking the "time honored tradition," and it's establishing a very dangerous precedent for other superstars who wish to leave the WWE in the future without denting their marketability.

4. CM Punk was wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt, the same shirt that Austin wore at Wrestlemania. Punk and Austin are friends. They playfully jaw at each other over at Twitter, wondering when they can beat each other up in the ring. Jim Ross, Austin's good friend and the one who brought him to the WWE, has mentioned that since Wrestlemania 27, Austin has started to feel that he has one more match left in his body. 3 weeks ago, Austin and Punk had an awesome backstage confrontation. My guess is that Cena Vs. Rock wouldn't be the only main event for Wrestlemania 28. Rock wouldn't be the only Attitude Era legend who will return. Punk wouldn't leave a big payday like that, right?

5. Before announcing his planned act of honesty during Capital Punishment, Punk tweeted that the coming months would be the Summer of Punk. Summer in the US doesn't end in July. Which leads us to...

6. "Summer of Punk" is the name of a storyline in Ring of Honor, way back in 2005 and immediately before Punk's departure for the WWE. Before an event called Death Before Dishonor III, Punk vowed to win the ROH title from Austin Aries (trivia: Austin Aries tried out for this year's edition of Tough Enough, but was cut because Austin knew he was close with Punk and Austin wanted to rib Punk, sad though that it's at the expense of Austin Aries.... same story with Matt Cross who was the second contestant eliminated) and take the title with him to WWE. At the said event, Punk won the ROH title, but he didn't leave the organization just yet. The storyline continued for four more months. Does this sound familiar? Hmmmm.

7. Shoots (work-shoots included) are very, very rare in the WWE, especially since the Age of PG programming started. Hence, it would be logical to believe that only special people are allowed to perform shoots. The most recent shoot? Edge, but only because of his medical condition that caused his surprise retirement. The other notable shoots? Joey Styles when he quit the Raw broadcasting team (a planned event because Jim Ross was returning, and an ECW program was about to be resurrected). Paul Heyman during the first ECW One Night Stand. The day X-Pac came back to the WWE to join Degeneration X, after being fired by Eric Bischoff at WCW. We can even count the semi-shoots (though mild ones) during the Rock-Cena exchanges leading to Wrestlemania 27. Shoots are reserved for special people setting up special storyline events. They're not reserved for people on their way out. If they were, hell, Chavo Guerrero should've been given one, and he had much to say about the way Triple H is force feeding Sin Cara to the WWE's audience.

8. Between now and Wrestlemania 28, John Cena only has two options for a fresh feud... CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. If WWE will allow Punk to quit by July 17, Alberto Del Rio will be rushed into a program with Cena. That will be a little less than 9 months to fill up. It's too soon. The Punk-Cena program will be extended to at least 2 months, at least that's what conventional logic dictates.

There are many possibilities at play right now:

1. Punk will win the title at MITB and will lead to Cena's firing. This will compel Punk to hang around a little more just to gloat.

2. Punk will win the title at MITB but lose it the same night to one of the two MITB winners, potentially someone whom the company wants to elevate to the main event roster.

3. Punk will win the title at MITB, pretend to leave, but will appear in the audience from time to time, until he loses the title at Summerslam... a recreation of the ROH Summer of Punk storyline.

4. Cena will defeat Punk just to keep the little Jimmys happy. Cheesy

Regardless of what scenario will come true, the events lead me to believe that Punk won't walk away. His gripes are legit, but money talks, and McMahon is too smart and too proud as to NOT push someone who is about to leave him.

Nevertheless, I agree... thank you CM Punk... exciting times are ahead!

The following is a recent excerpt from an interview The Miami Herald did with Colt Cabana, who was mentioned in CM Punk's shoot promo last Monday on WWE:

"From being laughed at by the trainers in Ohio Valley Wrestling to Paul [Heyman] finally bringing him up and everybody treating him like dirt, telling him he has an attitude problem and calling him the ‘King of the Indies,’. Just looking down on him, he just felt shunned his whole time there. It was a complete struggle."

“The power of him not really caring because he was ready to leave — I always said the power of not giving a s--- is so important. He is really at the point where he just wants to get out of there. It’s too frustrating for him. If he said anything that made anybody mad, what are they going to do to him? Not re-sign him? He doesn’t want to be there.

“So I think that idea is so powerful. He is so strong in his beliefs with the straight edge lifestyle. By being how strong headed that he is, he was able to have the power to go out on television and say what probably every other wrestler has wanted to say. He made unbelievable television. He made unbelievable history in wrestling.

“He almost has the ability to change professional wrestling as we know it. It has been so stagnant and vanilla. It kind of shook up the wrestling world because of his real life frustrations.”
