Retirement In Manila

Recommended Posts

Thank you Sir Raoul for the kind and encouraging words..I guess I dread the fact of transitioning to "civilian life" and not having a job anymore..you're right I just need to adjust, and set realistic goals to have a "good retirement". BTW I hope you don't mind; Are you in the service? Are you active duty? Have a great day.

What will you do during your retirement?

The general feeling I get from the few posts here

is that a passive income of 30,000 to 50,000 pesos per month

is enough to make people feel comfortable na?

That's useful information.

About 1,000 to 2,000 per day is what we're talking about.

Something to keep in mind whenever politicians

or economists talk about poverty.

If almost everyone could receive 1,000 pesos per day

what would happen to the mood of our country,

will it become more upbeat, more optimistic?

live in the small cities of this country, it is cheaper, more peaceful, cleaner. anyway manila is just there if you need some shopping. it is more relaxing to live in the province where time passes by slowly.

Those are the advantages of living in small cities of this country.

What are the disadvantages of this strategy?

On a totally separate note,

why does time seem to pass more slowly in the province,

whereas time slips away faster in the city?

Sir Longherin...you have a very good point..Depende siguro sa lifestyle na one is accustomed to..Siguro I'll be doing ok kung sa probinsya lang ako at ang worry ku lang e makakain ng 3 or 4 na beses sa isang araw. I can work anywhere naman basta marangal.

To earn 50,000 a month (600,000 a year)

from a time deposit that pays 6.00% net

you must deposit

ten million pesos (10,000,000).

10,000,000 times 6.00% = 600,000 a year

What do you guys think?

if you want to play it safe, that's the way to go however sayang ang 10m if you only park it in a bank. you may want to consider putting some in time deposit and investing some in mutual funds. riskier but returns are better

Retiring in Manila is asking for trouble, in addition to high house rent, you have to deal with health problems caused by pollution. What are your other alternatives? I suggest that you check out other places that can give you cheap and easy access to fresh fruits & vegetable, & clean air. You definitely wouldn't want to spend the rest of your life going to doctors every week.

spent a week in baguio last year and witnessed a bunch of foreign retirees having bfast at a local cafe-resto along session...seemed to me they were having fun living comfortably & spending the rest of their lives breathing clean air in this pine city.
