longhegrin
Thank you Sir Raoul for the kind and encouraging words..I guess I dread the fact of transitioning to "civilian life" and not having a job anymore..you're right I just need to adjust, and set realistic goals to have a "good retirement". BTW I hope you don't mind; Are you in the service? Are you active duty? Have a great day. What will you do during your retirement? The general feeling I get from the few posts hereis that a passive income of 30,000 to 50,000 pesos per monthis enough to make people feel comfortable na? That's useful information.About 1,000 to 2,000 per day is what we're talking about.Something to keep in mind whenever politiciansor economists talk about poverty. If almost everyone could receive 1,000 pesos per daywhat would happen to the mood of our country, will it become more upbeat, more optimistic? Quote Link to comment
longhegrin
To earn 50,000 a month (600,000 a year)from a time deposit that pays 6.00% net you must deposit ten million pesos (10,000,000). 10,000,000 times 6.00% = 600,000 a year What do you guys think? Quote Link to comment
longhegrin
live in the small cities of this country, it is cheaper, more peaceful, cleaner. anyway manila is just there if you need some shopping. it is more relaxing to live in the province where time passes by slowly. Those are the advantages of living in small cities of this country. What are the disadvantages of this strategy? On a totally separate note, why does time seem to pass more slowly in the province, whereas time slips away faster in the city? Quote Link to comment

Sir Longherin...you have a very good point..Depende siguro sa lifestyle na one is accustomed to..Siguro I'll be doing ok kung sa probinsya lang ako at ang worry ku lang e makakain ng 3 or 4 na beses sa isang araw. I can work anywhere naman basta marangal. Quote Link to comment
bantalman
Maybe you can invest before you retire there. There are options you can do, like have to operate a small B & B(pension house ) and live off the income at the same time. Quote Link to comment
LYCHEE
If you are single & already own your own car, a house or condo, P50,000.00/mo. imho is more than enough to tide you over. Just stay away from vices w/c can become very addicting when un-controlled. Quote Link to comment

johnlove
Retiring in Manila is asking for trouble, in addition to high house rent, you have to deal with health problems caused by pollution. What are your other alternatives? I suggest that you check out other places that can give you cheap and easy access to fresh fruits & vegetable, & clean air. You definitely wouldn't want to spend the rest of your life going to doctors every week. Edited December 31, 2007 by johnlove Quote Link to comment
