If you are in a pseudo-relationship, asking "WHERE DO YOU SEE THIS RELATIONSHIP GOING?" is tough.

 

A snappy comeback like "forward," "upstairs?" or "I dunno" will not suffice. you many need to treat it as an essay question. The other party in this kind of relationship may not be ready for an honest assessment of the couple's future together, he or she may take the relationship one day at a time while the other party may want a clearer definition. It could end up to a break-up or a relationship with an explicit direction that would include rules and the do's-and-don'ts.

So asking or answering this kind of question really involves risk on both parties.
