Phrozhen.Khold
Attention shutterbugs!!! http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i280/Phrozhen_Khold/Emoticons/em_memo.gif From: Louie Aguinaldo Date: Oct 11, 2006 10:33 PMSubject: [phphoto] DO NOT SIGN!!! Photographers! Time to stand up for ourrights!!!To: phphoto@yahoogroups .com DO NOT SIGN!!! Photographers! Time to stand up for your rights! Both international and Philippine laws recognize the photographer' sright over their images. If a magazine or newspaper commissions a photographer for a shoot, the copyright belongs to the photographer. The only rights themagazine or newspaper has is the right to publish it for one issueonly.Even if the magazine pays for the film or cd and owns the materialor media they do not own the copyright of the image. They can onlyuse the image once. That is the law! It is a law that photographer' s should appreciate and fight for. Within the past few days, a major local publishing company thatcarries several of the top glossy magazines has issued a contractwhich they are requiring photographers to sign if they are to shootwith them. The stipulations of the contract are terribly one-sided and aredesigned to rob photographers of ALL their rights to their images. It is said that no one will be allowed to shoot if they do not signthe contract. They are requiring the photographers - To relinquish all moral rights over the authorship of theirimages, here or anywhere in the world – that means that you do noteven have the right to claim that the images are yours, you do nothave the right to claim that you took the photos- To relinquish ALL rights and copyrights over the images –which means you don't own them anymore, you have no say in how theywill be used, etc –- Need to get permission to use for our own portfolios - youcannot include the images in your portfolio or website without theirpermission All of these are unacceptable! It is not only degrading, it is insulting! The local publications severely underpay photographers as it is.Now this publishing company is treating the works of photographersas cheap merchandise. What are the repercussions of this agreement if photographers sign1. The publishing company pays photographers pathetic editorialfees yet they can sell the images to advertisers at advertisingrates. The photographers lose out big time.2. They can even market packages to advertisers that willinclude photography. So instead of advertisers hiring photographersfor their print campaigns, they can get a cheaper package throughthe publishing company. The publishing company can offer a packagewherein they include our photographs which they get for barya!3. If the publishing company chooses they can build their ownstock agency and sell our images with no benefit to us. Mind youthat stock agencies all over the world act as agents forphotographers. They market the images, and if sold, they earn acommission and the photographers earn. But with this contract, ifthe publishing company chooses to sell our images, all the profitsare theirs because they fully own the images.4. The publishing company can commission us under the guise ofeditorial photography but may intend to use it for any commercialventure anywhere in the world. For all you know they are paying youP2000 for a shoot of 5 layouts and then they are selling to someoneelse for P50,000.5. You do not own the images. Imagine that you cannot evenclaim that the images are yours. Imagine that you cannot eveninclude it in your portfolio unless they grant permission. Is this in anyway acceptable? The answer is obviously a big resounding NO!To agree to such a thing is allowing ourselves to be slapped in theface. It is an insult! It is an utter disrespect for photographers. It is bad enough that the fees for editorial photographers arepathetically low, now they want to rob us of everything we have. Fora photographer… your images are part of your soul. They are tryingto buy our soul for loose change. Is that all we are worth? Many professional editorial photographers are outraged at this andour initial stand is DON'T SIGN. So if you are an editorial photographer, don't sign. Once you do, asa photographer, you have sold your soul and have betrayed theindustry. If we allow this to happen, it will be a precedent, and sooneveryone else will follow suit. We cannot let this happen. What's the plan of action? First, DO NOT SIGN. Don't be afraid even if they threaten that theywill not hire you. Many of the top and most sought after editorialphotographers have stated they will not sign and are planning tomeet soon to take a stand. If nobody signs, the publishing company will have to rethink theircontract.Remember the images are yours! It is you that should make thedemands on them! If you sign, then you are forever a slave to them. There is strength in numbers. If the majority stands up to this, this injustice cannot prevail. Second, if you are an editorial photographer, please send me yourcontact info so that we can contact you for the plans of action. Amajor meeting will soon be called to discuss our stand. You canemail your contact info to louiea@iname. com orlouieaguinaldo@ yahoo.com DO NOT SIGN!!! If you have any respect for photography, DO NOTSIGN!!! Quote Link to comment
pnoize2k4
Attention shutterbugs!!! http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i280/Phrozhen_Khold/Emoticons/em_memo.gif I'll have to agree with this. A lot of editorials actually give out pathetic fees and often times take a while to receive it. I was once a victim of this. I was told that it was for an article for a certain glossy, only to find out later that it was an ad layout. Quote Link to comment
pnoize2k4
Damn. Just got online earlier this evening. The storm hit me hard. Phone lines down for 2 weeks. Anyhoo, great shots people. Very big improvement noziuk. Pnoize, im sure you've shot medium format before... Im looking at several medium format film cameras and so far the top of my list is the Hasselblad 500 c/m any suggestions? Hassies, Bronicas or Mamiya. These are the top 3 brands for Medium Format. It's gotten difficult to shoot 120s here in cebu since there are hardly any films available and labs develop negatives only. Then there the problem of getting the chemicals for my own lab work. *sigh* Try getting a Hassie with a 135 adapter. Quote Link to comment
Nooblet
Theres no problem with film and processing here in manila. Sir Bengy Toda at studio 58 keeps regular stock of film and he processes really well I was at hidalgo looking for second hand medium formats and I found a Mamiya RZ67 PRO... I might settle for that. This is my first all manual medium format camera Quote Link to comment
mig 22
Wow naman, adik. I passed by at hidalgo last week and damn, isang kalye na puro camera at photo labs ang maikikita mo. It was my first time and I am overwhelmed sa dami ng cameras! May Yashica, may seagull, nikon, pentax, etc. ang dami, gusto ko pa naman makabili ng TLR pero for display purposes lang at di nila binebenta, bummer. Quote Link to comment

Had to search the net for a manual on how to use it. Medyo nakakadisorient at first pero you get used to it. I like the DOF on the Rolleicord and I like how it teaches you to be patient to get the right shot. Dito ko rin nagamit ng husto yung lightmeter ko. Quote Link to comment

A Hassie 503CM is about 90k for the kit second hand. While I will always drool for a Hassie, practicality tells me to go with the Mamiya. Since it already goes with 3 lenses. 90k is a bit too much for me for a film camera. With all that was offered to you, 38K and your set! Quote Link to comment
Nooblet
pnoize, Someone beat me to that particular mamiya There is another one going for about 19k. 90mm f3.5 and a 6x4.5 (YUCK) back. (would have wanted the original 6x7) its a RB67 Pro-SD and it looks good too. I found also a Hasselblad 500 c/m for 45k. It comes with a 6x6 back and an 80mm f2.8 Zeiss 2x coat What would you get? :-s Quote Link to comment

One thing that caught my eye on ebay was a Lubitel TLR pretty interesting device and when I had a chance to purchase one I will include also a light meter. Yay! More learning for me.
