SphinX21
Sphinx, I have a few car modeler friends too. Maybe you should meet them to catch up. I gave up on building cars back in the 80s kasi ang hirap gumawa ng high gloss finish. Pero one of these days Ill try again. cge pag meron na me free time.. medyo hectic sched.. thanks! La na nga ko bagong binubuo eh... hehehehe Quote Link to comment
caloyski65
this is my latest build, the B17F Flying Fortress Bomber that i bought yesterday sa LIL's Park square......It took me @ 6 hours to finish this one excluding the decal stickets at jingle lang ang pahinga ......mas simple pa nga yun mga parts compared to the fighter planes na mas detailed but gluing is rather difficult dahil u have to bind those big parts like the fuselage and wings with rubber bands para maganda ang dikit at have to let it dry completely kaya matagal. Just a small piece of advice:Please make sure the room you're assembling the models in has good air ventilation. The fumes from the glue (and paint, when you decide to start painting) are very harmful to people. Never assemble in an air-conditioned room! You really have to try painting the kits! It takes modeling to another level! Quote Link to comment

Nice piece of work Doc Pepper!! Thank you sir, your builds look very neat and clean BTW. I ruined my first painted model by mixing acrylics and enamel paint to try to get a color I wanted. I hope you start painting your kits too. It's really fun, especially weathering. Quote Link to comment

I'm sure matagal bago nyo nabuo yun unlike yung mga ginawa ko na pang mas production o pakyawan.....hehehehehe!!! medyo matatagalan pa bago ako mag venture into modern planes & tanks. Need to complete my WW2 collection. may nakita na akong British Lancaster Bomber na isusunod kong bilhin. Im also searching for Japanese Betty Bomber & German Dornier Do-17 or Heinkel He-111 bombers Quote Link to comment
Boelcke
Sir Caloyski, Thanks, thanks! The downside nga with extra details is that output lessens considerably. Its not unusual for me nowadays to take up to 4 months to build a single kit. Yung isang 1/32 FA-18 ko it took me a whole year to build. Pero as your collection builds up okay din to take it a little slower, kasi sooner or later youll run out of space to park your kits. Doc, Yes, its Hasegawa. But believe it or not, there isnt any aftermarket item on this plane. All the extra details I made from scratch. Hehehe! Supermario (thats what we call him), makes excellent kits. I wonder what he'll be entering this year. Quote Link to comment

He's international-grade now. Quote Link to comment
Dr_PepPeR
Most of my finished kits do not have happy endings. Somewhere inside the box are an Italeri 1/72 Russian Helicopter, a 1/48 Heller Sepecat Jaguar, an Academy 1/35 Wirbelwind and Mutt, and parts of an Academy 1/72 A-10 Warthog and 1/35 Italeri M935 6x6 truck. By the end of New Year's Day, they will be transformed into unrecognizable bits of styrene plastic. Fire in the hole! Quote Link to comment

Sayang naman and that would be a waste. Bakit di mo i donate? Although most kids would want toys that they could play with but i'm sure there are also kids that would appreciate those kinds of toys that they will only look at. Pero kung decided ka na talaga to blow them up eh that would be one hell of a thing thing to see. How bout using a chunk of C4 explosives to blow them up sky high.....hehehehehe! floppydrive
Wow! Great builds, Dr. Pepper and Herr Boelcke! Galing galing! If only there's time to work on the models. Herr Boelcke, it's the same with me that as you get more into this hobby, the longer it takes to finish one kit. I remember when I was 7 years old, I finished 7 1/72 scale aircrafts in one day! Of course at that age I didn't care to paint them. My most recent finish was a tie interceptor (no scale since it's an ERTL kit). finished it in 7 days, painted na. And it took my kid 3 hours to find it, play with it, and turn it into a pile of plastic. hehehe Quote Link to comment
Boelcke
Many thanks, Doc and Sir Floppy! Actually, most of my builds contain scratchbuilt upgrade parts because, as I told my colleagues, Im too cheap to buy aftermarket. No, seriously, I prefer scratchbuilding kasi I enjoy the challenge. The only aftermarket items I buy regularly are decals. Kasi most kit-supplied decals (expecially yung Japanese brands) turn yellow in only a few years. Kakainis youd spend several months building a model and then maninilaw lang yung decals. Sir Doc, Sayang nga talaga yan!! If they cant be restored they could be used for spare parts. Many of my friends are looking for spare parts for their own kits, baka pwede yan. Hehehe! Quote Link to comment

I tried using future on top of decals, and it didn't turn yellow. Maybe not as fast as an uncoated decal. Got to look for the model with the future coated decals and recheck. It's been years since I last looked at them closely. Quote Link to comment

It's been years since I last looked at them closely. Unfortunately, yes. Although I dont use Future I do overcoat all my kits with clear Gunze. Not all decals turn yellow, though. Some dont, some turn yellow slower than the others. But look closely at the area where there is clear decal film. If you see it getting darker than the surrounding color, its turning/turned yellow. What Ive noticed is that some of the best decals available out of the kit box --- Japanese kits --- turn yellow faster than others. Most aftermarket decals turn yellow but it takes a very, very, very long time. My kits with Twobobs or Aeromaster decals, so far, have not shown the slightest degree of yellowing. caloyski65
san ba nakaka bili ng mga decals sa mga planes at tanks? wala kasi sa LIL's park square at dun sa iba pang branches nila nung mag tanong ako. pati na dun sa ibang hobby shop ay wala din. Quote Link to comment
Boelcke
There are a few sheets available at JMN's at Harrison Plaza. Or, you could order them on line either through Hannants, Squadron, or other on line hobby stores.
