Top 10 Ginebra imports

1. Billy Ray Bates – Though unang naglaro para sa fabled Crispa Redmanizers back in ’83 and according sa nabasa ko, that was the most memorable part of his playing career;

2. Michael Hackett – Unsuccessful with his 1st stint with Ginebra back in ’85 but finally won a championship when he teamed-up with Bates noong third conference ng ‘86;

3. Wes Matthews – Spectacular import, , a former L.A. Laker, kaso ‘di nanalo ng championship with them when they went up against alaska whose import is one named Sean Chambers. Me anak named after him na player din;

4. Jervis Cole – Replacement lang pero hard-working import, help Ginebra came back from a 1-3 deficit to clinch the title over shell;

5. Chris King

6. Chris Alexander

7. Torraye Braggs

8. Carlos Briggs

9. Henry James;

10. Darren Queenan – Matindi sa slam-dunk, later played for purefoods.

Other Ginebra imports worth mentioning:

11. Jamie Waller – Kamukha ni Iron Mike Tyson

12. David Noel

13. Keith Gray

14. Clinton Wheeler

15. Tommy Davis

16. Ryan Fletcher – Also called as “the great white hope” as he is the first white/Caucasian import to play in the PBA after many years of mostly having African-American imports;

17. Leon Trimmingham – Magaling according to scouting reports kaso nga lang ‘di yata nakapag-adjust sa PBA brand of play;

18. Lou Massey - Lawrence "Sweet Lou" Massey is a 6'5 beefy import that played for Gilbey's Gin in the pre-Jaworski days. Massey once scored 85 points in a PBA game.

19. Alex Coles - Technically 'di talaga nakapaglaro para sa Ginebra dahil sa several centimeter above the height limit pero nakasali sa slam dunk contest where he jumped over 4 dancers/cheerleaders and Noli Locsin, I remember a clamor back then to allow him to play dahil dehado talaga ang Ginebra sa line-up nila back then, this was during the pre Marlou Aquino and Bal David era.

20. Frank Western – Around 6’5 or 6’6 but can shoot well from the outside kaso parang takot sa banggaan.

21. Joe Ward

22. Sylvester Gray

10. Darren Queenan – Matindi sa slam-dunk, later played for purefoods.

I remember a clamor back then to allow him to play for Ginebra dahil dehado naman talaga ang Ginebra sa line-up nila back then but all that went for naught. This was during the pre Marlou Aquino and Bal David era.
