Lurker
Win XP SP3? eto.... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en I'm reposting this from what I gather from another HACKER'S FORUM: *************************************************************************** IMPORTANT UPDATE WARNING ABOUT WINDOWS XP SP3: I have determined first hand (after installing a slipstreamed SP3 to an HP laptop) that SP3 IS DEFINITELY GOING VISTA-LIKE IN TERMS OF ANTI-PIRACY MEASURES! Heres the lowdown: A whole slew of VLK keys have been blacklisted first-off. This is of NO concern however because the worst is yet to come. It appears that SP3 will require mandatory activation with Microsoft BEFORE the user can even log on. I doubt that SP3 will ever be released in any kind of VLK version btw. After installing Windows with a slipstreamed SP3_RC1, (after finally finding a bullshit cd-key that Windows would accept which took like 20 keys) I was greeted with the dreaded message dialog "You must first activate Windows With Microsoft before logging on". And of course pressing "NO" would log your right-on out again. My advice after a real-world test: Screw SP3 (and the Microsoft muppets) until an easy fix for this is released, providing this DRM crap actually materializes in the final SP3. Well, this might just be a blessing in disguise I guess, because it might FINALLY BE "the straw that broke the camels back" and gave every single one of you the final reason you actually needed to move to another OS. Linux. MS thinks they can peddle this crap using the same demonic methods the tobacco companies did. "Get em' hooked, then when they become chemically dependent, BOOM charge insane prices". Only with Microsoft it's more like "make it unavoidable or extremely difficult to use without paying". But Microsoft still doesn't understand that Windows is NOT a cancerous addictive cigarette. They CANT use this system with even a fraction of the success the tobacco/cigarette companies had. People WILL DUMP Windows if MS goes through with this SP3+DRM garbage. People WILL move to another OS, they won't just say "screw it, i'm gonna pay 140$". WATCH. Anyway, lets see how this plays out but once again, tread very carefully with SP3 installs! *************************END***************************** Edited January 26, 2008 by Lurker Quote Link to comment
ilb4u2nyt
Happy New year po, My prob is this: I have an Intel Pentium 4 2.6Ghz 512MB and a 40 Gig hard disk. Suddenly my PC can not boot up anymore and I am thinking if it is a virus attached. I decided to reformat it and installed succefully the windows xp pro OS. When the computer was booting for the 1st time it hung at the welcome remarks but the weird thing is i can move the cursor of the mouse so it is impossible that the computer hungs. I waited almost 2 hours but no positive sign. I tried resetting it and still not booting up. I also tried booting in safe mode and fortunately the computer boot up but using safe mode. I tried restrting again anf the my pc still doesn't boot up. it still black but i can move the cursor. I tried replacing a new memory and a new hardrive and reinstalling again the whole xp installation, and was fully installed XP succesfully. When it will boot up for the 1st time it hung again to the getting started and won't go through the normal boot up. I also tried booting at safe mode and I can go in. when I restarted the pc it still won't boot. but my mouse was able to move. is it with cmos prob? please help. Thanks :mtc: If you can boot up at safe mode, access the system tools and look for the administrative tools. Look for the log file that will show you the boot process and look for any signs of stoppage while its loading. Sometimes, hardware conflicts could cause such lock ups. Try disabling all built-in capabilities of the board such as LAN, Sound, on board video card (if you have a separate vcard) and USB capabilities. Keep the system's hardware configuration bare and simple... if boot up works fine, add up each one that those you disable previously and reboot your pc each time you do it and observe what will happen. I have a problem with USB Drivers for hyundai libero 430 coz the laptop is still using windows 98... Can anyone give me usb drivers for win98 for libero 430.. Better yet, if i upgrade to windows xp, will the laptop support it? will usb driver problems can finally be solved if i upgrade to winxp operating system?? thanks for the reply in advance guys The system could barely handle WindowsXP... you could install it, yes but executing any software would take so long because memory capacity is maxed out already plus the processor is way too slow for todays software much less for updated ones. Sorry to tell you but such unit will not be a good thing for XP usage. Keep the old Win98 instead.. your USB issue cant be solved anytime soon but heck you could use the system more efficiently if kept at that way. Hope to enlighten you on this. It works just fine executing Microsoft office and winamp.. Yes it's very obsolete by today's standard but my instructor is more than happy using it for excel and word.... Just want to fine the USB drivers for this unit.. Searching the internet prove useless... Manufacturer's website is already gone.. Drivers database proves futile too... Quote Link to comment
